Exodus 20:1 | And the Lord spoke all these words: | And God said all these words: | And God spoke all these words, saying, |
Exodus 20:2 | I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. | I am the Lord your God who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house. | I am the LORD thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. |
Exodus 20:3 | Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. | You are to have no other gods but me. | Thou shalt have no other gods before me. |
Exodus 20:4 | Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. | You are not to make an image or picture of anything in heaven or on the earth or in the waters under the earth: | Thou shalt not make to thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: |
Exodus 20:5 | Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: | You may not go down on your faces before them or give them worship: for I, the Lord your God, am a God who will not give his honour to another; and I will send punishment on the children for the wrongdoing of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation of my haters; | Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; |
Exodus 20:6 | And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments. | And I will have mercy through a thousand generations on those who have love for me and keep my laws. | And showing mercy to thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. |
Exodus 20:7 | Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain. | You are not to make use of the name of the Lord your God for an evil purpose; whoever takes the Lord's name on his lips for an evil purpose will be judged a sinner by the Lord | Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. |
Exodus 20:8 | Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day. | Keep in memory the Sabbath and let it be a holy day. | Remember the sabbath-day to keep it holy. |
Exodus 20:9 | Six days shalt thou labour, and shalt do all thy works. | On six days do all your work: | Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: |
Exodus 20:10 | But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates. | But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on that day you are to do no work, you or your son or your daughter, your man-servant or your woman-servant, your cattle or the man from a strange country who is living among you: | But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: |
Exodus 20:11 | For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in them, and rested on the seventh day: therefore the Lord blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it. | For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this reason the Lord has given his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy. | For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath-day, and hallowed it. |
Exodus 20:12 | Honour thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be longlived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee. | Give honour to your father and to your mother, so that your life may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. | Honor thy father and thy mother; that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. |

Exodus 20:17 | Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house: neither shalt thou desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his. | Let not your desire be turned to your neighbour's house, or his wife or his man-servant or his woman-servant or his ox or his ass or anything which is his. | Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's. |
Exodus 20:18 | And all the people saw the voices and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking: and being terrified and struck with fear, they stood afar off, | And all the people were watching the thunderings and the flames and the sound of the horn and the mountain smoking; and when they saw it, they kept far off, shaking with fear. | And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. |
Exodus 20:19 | Saying to Moses: Speak thou to us, and we will hear: let not the Lord speak to us, lest we die. | And they said to Moses, To your words we will give ear, but let not the voice of God come to our ears, for fear death may come on us. | And they said to Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. |
Exodus 20:20 | And Moses said to the people: Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that the dread of him might be in you, and you should not sin. | And Moses said to the people, Have no fear: for God has come to put you to the test, so that fearing him you may be kept from sin. | And Moses said to the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. |

Exodus 20:24 | You shall make an altar of earth unto me, and you shall offer upon it your holocausts and peace offerings, your sheep and oxen, in every place where the memory of my name shall be: I will come to thee, and will bless thee. | Make for me an altar of earth, offering on it your burned offerings and your peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen: in every place where I have put the memory of my name, I will come to you and give you my blessing. | An altar of earth thou shalt make to me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thy oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come to thee, and I will bless thee. |
Exodus 20:25 | And if thou make an altar of stone unto me, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones: for if thou lift up a tool upon it, it shall be defiled. | And if you make me an altar of stone do not make it of cut stones: for the touch of an instrument will make it unclean. | And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou shalt lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. |
Exodus 20:26 | Thou shalt not go up by steps unto my altar, lest thy nakedness be discovered. | And do not go up by steps to my altar, for fear that your bodies may be seen uncovered. | Neither shalt thou go up by steps to my altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. |
