John 9:1And Jesus passing by, saw a man, who was blind from his birth:And when he went on his way, he saw a man blind from birth. And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man who was blind from his birth.
John 9:2And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, who hath sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind? And his disciples put a question to him, saying, Master, was it because of this man's sin, or the sin of his father and mother, that he has been blind from birth? And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
John 9:3Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.Jesus said in answer, It was not because of his sin, or because of his father's or mother's; it was so that the works of God might be seen openly in him.Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
John 9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. While it is day we have to do the works of him who sent me: the night comes when no work may be done.I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.
John 9:5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
John 9:6When he had said these things, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread the clay on his eyes,Having said these words, he put earth, mixed with water from his mouth, on the man's eyes,When he had thus spoken, he spit on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
John 9:7And said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloe, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore, and washed, and he came seeing. And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). So he went away and, after washing, came back able to see.And said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
John 9:8The neighbours therefore, and they who had seen him before that he was a beggar, said: Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said: This is he.Then the neighbours and others who had seen him before in the street, with his hand out for money, said, Is not this the man who got money from people? The neighbors therefore, and they who before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
John 9:9But others said: No, but he is like him. But he said: I am he.Some said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
John 9:10They said therefore to him: How were thy eyes opened? So they said to him, How then were your eyes made open? Therefore they said to him, How were thy eyes opened?
John 9:11He answered: That man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me: Go to the pool of Siloe, and wash. And I went, I washed, and I see.His answer was: The man who is named Jesus put earth mixed with water on my eyes, and said to me, Go and make yourself clean in Siloam: so I went away and, after washing, am now able to see.He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
John 9:12And they said to him: Where is he? He saith: I know not.And they said to him, Where is he? His answer was: I have no knowledge. Then said they to him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
John 9:13They bring him that had been blind to the Pharisees. They took him before the Pharisees this man who had been blind. They brought to the Pharisees him that before was blind.
John 9:14Now it was the sabbath, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Now the day on which the earth was mixed by Jesus and the man's eyes were made open was the Sabbath. And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
John 9:15Again therefore the Pharisees asked him, how he had received his sight. But he said to them: He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and I see.So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see. Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and do see.
John 9:16Some therefore of the Pharisees said: This man is not of God, who keepeth not the sabbath. But others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them. Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
John 9:17They say therefore to the blind man again: What sayest thou of him that hath opened they eyes? And he said: He is a prophet.Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet. They say to the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thy eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
John 9:18The Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,Now the Jews had no belief in the statement that he had been blind and was now able to see, till they sent for the father and mother of the man whose eyes had been made open,But the Jews did not believe concerning him that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
John 9:19And asked them, saying: Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then doth he now see?And put the question to them, saying, Is this your son, of whom you say that he was blind at birth? how is it then that he is now able to see?And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
John 9:20His parents answered them, and said: We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:In answer his father and mother said, We are certain that this is our son and that he was blind at birth:His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
John 9:21But how he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: ask himself: he is of age, let him speak for himself. But how it is he is now able to see, or who made his eyes open, we are not able to say: put the question to him; he is old enough to give an answer for himself. But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he will speak for himself.
John 9:22These things his parents said, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. They said this because of their fear of the Jews: for the Jews had come to an agreement that if any man said that Jesus was the Christ he would be put out of the Synagogue. These words his parents spoke, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man confessed that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
John 9:23Therefore did his parents say: He is of age, ask himself. That was the reason why they said, He is old enough; put the question to him. Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
John 9:24They therefore called the man again that had been blind, and said to him: Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner. So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner. Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
John 9:25He said therefore to them: If he be a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see.He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.
John 9:26They said then to him: What did he to thee? How did he open thy eyes? Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes? Then they said to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thy eyes?
John 9:27He answered them: I have told you already, and you have heard: why would you hear it again? will you also become his disciples? His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples? He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: Why would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
John 9:28They reviled him therefore, and said: Be thou his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses.
John 9:29We know that God spoke to Moses: but as to this man, we know not from whence he is.We are certain that God gave his word to Moses: but as for this man, we have no knowledge where he comes from.We know that God spoke to Moses: as for this man, we know not whence he is.
John 9:30The man answered, and said to them: Why, herein is a wonderful thing, that you know not from whence he is, and he hath opened my eyes. The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes. The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my eyes.
John 9:31Now we know that God doth not hear sinners: but if a man be a server of God, and doth his will, him he heareth. We have knowledge that God does not give ear to sinners, but if any man is a worshipper of God and does his pleasure, to him God's ears are open. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man is a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
John 9:32From the beginning of the world it hath not been heard, that any man hath opened the eyes of one born blind. In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open.Since the world began hath it not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
John 9:33Unless this man were of God, he could not do any thing. If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.
John 9:34They answered, and said to him: Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue. They answered and said to him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? and they cast him out.
John 9:35Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him: Dost thou believe in the Son of God?It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man?Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
John 9:36He answered, and said: Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?
John 9:37And Jesus said to him: Thou hast both seen him; and it is he that talketh with thee.Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you.And Jesus said to him, thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
John 9:38And he said: I believe, Lord. And falling down, he adored him.And he said, Lord, I have faith. And he gave him worship. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him.
John 9:39And Jesus said: For judgment I am come into this world; that they who see not, may see; and they who see, may become blind. And Jesus said, I came into this world to be a judge, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind. And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they who see not, may see; and that they who see, may be made blind.
John 9:40And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind? These words came to the ears of the Pharisees who were with him and they said to him, Are we, then, blind? And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also?
John 9:41Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you should not have sin: but now you say: We see. Your sin remaineth.Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would have no sin: but now that you say, We see; your sin is there still.Jesus said to them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
