Matthew 20:1The kingdom of heaven is like to an householder, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.For the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a house, who went out early in the morning to get workers into his vine-garden."For the Kingdom of the Heavens is like an employer who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard,
Matthew 20:2And having agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.And when he had made an agreement with the workmen for a penny a day, he sent them into his vine-garden.and having made an agreement with them for a shilling a day, sent them into his vineyard.
Matthew 20:3And going about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market place idle.And he went out about the third hour, and saw others in the market-place doing nothing;About nine o'clock he went out and saw others loitering in the market-place.
Matthew 20:4And he said to them: Go you also into my vineyard, and I will give you what shall be just.And he said to them, Go into the vine-garden with the others, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went to work.To these also he said, "`You also, go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.'
Matthew 20:5And they went their way. And again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did in like manner.Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did the same."So they went. Again about twelve, and about three o'clock, he went out and did the same.
Matthew 20:6But about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and he saith to them: Why stand you here all the day idle?And about the eleventh hour he went out and saw others doing nothing; and he says to them, Why are you here all the day doing nothing?And going out about five o'clock he found others loitering, and he asked them, "`Why have you been standing here all day long, doing nothing?'
Matthew 20:7They say to him: Because no man hath hired us. He saith to them: Go you also into my vineyard.They say to him, Because no man has given us work. He says to them, Go in with the rest, into the vine-garden."`Because no one has hired us,' they replied. "`You also, go into the vineyard,' he said.
Matthew 20:8And when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward: Call the labourers and pay them their hire, beginning from the last even to the first.And when evening came, the lord of the vine-garden said to his manager, Let the workers come, and give them their payment, from the last to the first."When evening came, the master said to his steward, "`Call the men and pay them their wages. Begin with the last set and finish with the first.'
Matthew 20:9When therefore they were come, that came about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.And when those men came who had gone to work at the eleventh hour, they were given every man a penny."When those came who had begun at five o'clock, they received a shilling apiece;
Matthew 20:10But when the first also came, they thought that they should receive more: and they also received every man a penny.Then those who came first had the idea that they would get more; and they, like the rest, were given a penny.and when the first came, they expected to get more, but they also each got the shilling.
Matthew 20:11And receiving it they murmured against the master of the house,And when they got it, they made a protest against the master of the house,So when they had received it, they grumbled against the employer, saying,
Matthew 20:12Saying: These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, that have borne the burden of the day and the heats.Saying, These last have done only one hour's work, and you have made them equal to us, who have undergone the hard work of the day and the burning heat."`These who came last have done only one hour's work, and you have put them on a level with us who have worked the whole day and have borne the scorching heat.'
Matthew 20:13But he answering said to one of them: Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny?But he in answer said to one of them, Friend, I do you no wrong: did you not make an agreement with me for a penny?"`My friend,' he answered to one of them, `I am doing you no injustice. Did you not agree with me for a shilling?
Matthew 20:14Take what is thine, and go thy way: I will also give to this last even as to thee.Take what is yours, and go away; it is my pleasure to give to this last, even as to you.Take your money and go. I choose to give this last comer just as much as I give you.
Matthew 20:15Or, is it not lawful for me to do what I will? is thy eye evil, because I am good?Have I not the right to do as seems good to me in my house? or is your eye evil, because I am good?Have I not a right to do what I choose with my own property? Or are you envious because I am generous?'
Matthew 20:16So shall the last be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.So the last will be first, and the first last."So the last shall be first, and the first last."
Matthew 20:17And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples apart, and said to them:And when Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples on one side, and said to them,Jesus was now going up to Jerusalem, and He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the way He said to them,
Matthew 20:18Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death.See, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be given into the hands of the chief priests and scribes; and they will give orders for him to be put to death,"We are going up to Jerusalem, and there the Son of Man will be betrayed to the High Priests and Scribes. They will condemn Him to death,
Matthew 20:19And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked, and scourged, and crucified, and the third day he shall rise again.And will give him up to the Gentiles to be made sport of and to be whipped and to be put to death on the cross: and the third day he will come back again from the dead.and hand Him over to the Gentiles to be made sport of and scourged and crucified; and on the third day He will be raised to life."
Matthew 20:20Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, adoring and asking something of him.Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, giving him worship and making a request of him.Then the mother of the sons of Zabdi came to Him with her sons, and knelt before Him to make a request of Him.
Matthew 20:21Who said to her: What wilt thou? She saith to him: Say that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left, in thy kingdom.And he said to her, What is your desire? She says to him, Let my two sons be seated, the one at your right hand, and the other at your left, in your kingdom."What is it you desire?" He asked. "Command," she replied, "that these my two sons may sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your Kingdom."
Matthew 20:22And Jesus answering, said: You know not what you ask. Can you drink the chalice that I shall drink? They say to him: We can.But Jesus made answer and said, You have no idea what you are requesting. Are you able to take of the cup which I am about to take?"None of you know what you are asking for," said Jesus; "can you drink out of the cup from which I am about to drink?" "We can," they replied.
Matthew 20:23He saith to them: My chalice indeed you shall drink; but to sit on my right or left hand, is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared by my Father.They say to him, We are able. He says to them, Truly, you will take of my cup: but to be seated at my right hand and at my left is not for me to give, but it is for those for whom my Father has made it ready."You shall drink out of my cup," He said, "but a seat at my right hand or at my left it is not for me to allot, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father."
Matthew 20:24And the ten hearing it, were moved with indignation against the two brethren.And when it came to the ears of the ten, they were angry with the two brothers.The other ten heard of this, and their indignation was aroused against the two brothers.
Matthew 20:25But Jesus called them to him, and said: You know that the princes of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that are the greater, exercise power upon them.But Jesus said to them, You see that the rulers of the Gentiles are lords over them, and their great ones have authority over them.But Jesus called them to Him, and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
Matthew 20:26It shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be the greater among you, let him be your minister:Let it not be so among you: but if anyone has a desire to become great among you, let him be your servant;Not so shall it be among you; but whoever desires to be great among you shall be your servant,
Matthew 20:27And he that will be first among you, shall be your servant.And whoever has a desire to be first among you, let him take the lowest place:and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant;
Matthew 20:28Even as the Son of man is not come to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a redemption for many.Even as the Son of man did not come to have servants, but to be a servant, and to give his life for the salvation of men.just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as the redemption-price for many."
Matthew 20:29And when they went out from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.And when they were going out from Jericho, a great number went after him.As they were leaving Jericho, an immense crowd following Him,
Matthew 20:30And behold two blind men sitting by the way side, heard that Jesus passed by, and they cried out, saying: O Lord, thou son of David, have mercy on us.And two blind men seated by the wayside, when they had the news that Jesus was going by, gave a loud cry, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.two blind men sitting by the roadside heard that it was Jesus who was passing by, and cried aloud, "Sir, Son of David, pity us."
Matthew 20:31And the multitude rebuked them that they should hold their peace. But they cried out the more, saying: O Lord, thou son of David, have mercy on us.And the people gave them orders to be quiet; but they went on crying even louder, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.The people angrily tried to silence them, but they cried all the louder. "O Sir, Son of David, pity us," they said.
Matthew 20:32And Jesus stood, and called them, and said: What will ye that I do to you?And Jesus, stopping, sent for them, and said, What would you have me do to you?So Jesus stood still and called to them. "What shall I do for you?" He asked.
Matthew 20:33They say to him: Lord, that our eyes be opened.They say to him, Lord, that our eyes may be open."Sir, let our eyes be opened," they replied.
Matthew 20:34And Jesus having compassion on them, touched their eyes. And immediately they saw, and followed him.And Jesus, being moved with pity, put his fingers on their eyes: and straight away they were able to see, and went after him.Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.
