Matthew 22:1And Jesus answering, spoke again in parables to them, saying:And Jesus, talking to them again in stories, said:Again Jesus spoke to them in figurative language.
Matthew 22:2The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king, who made a marriage for his son.The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a feast when his son was married,"The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "may be compared to a king who celebrated the marriage of his son,
Matthew 22:3And he sent his servants, to call them that were invited to the marriage; and they would not come. And sent out his servants to get in the guests to the feast: and they would not come.and sent his servants to call the invited guests to the wedding, but they were unwilling to come.
Matthew 22:4Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my beeves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage.Again he sent out other servants, with orders to say to the guests, See, I have made ready my feast: my oxen and my fat beasts have been put to death, and all things are ready: come to the feast."Again he sent other servants with a message to those who were invited. "`My breakfast is now ready," he said, `my bullocks and fat cattle are killed, and every preparation is made: come to the wedding.'
Matthew 22:5But they neglected, and went their own ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise.But they gave no attention, and went about their business, one to his farm, another to his trade:"They however gave no heed, but went, one to his home in the country, another to his business;
Matthew 22:6And the rest laid hands on his servants, and having treated them contumeliously, put them to death. And the rest put violent hands on his servants, and did evil to them, and put them to death.and the rest seized the king's servants, maltreated them, and murdered them.
Matthew 22:7But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city. But the king was angry; and he sent his armies, and those who had put his servants to death he gave to destruction, burning down their town with fire.So the king's anger was stirred, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burnt their city.
Matthew 22:8Then he saith to his servants: The marriage indeed is ready; but they that were invited were not worthy. Then he said to his servants, The feast is ready but the guests were not good enough. Then he said to his servants, "`The wedding banquet is ready, but those who were invited were unworthy of it.
Matthew 22:9Go ye therefore into the highways; and as many as you shall find, call to the marriage.Go then to the cross-roads, and get all those whom you see to come to the bride-feast.Go out therefore to the crossroads, and everybody you meet invite to the wedding.'
Matthew 22:10And his servants going forth into the ways, gathered together all that they found, both bad and good: and the marriage was filled with guests. And those servants went out into the streets, and got together all those whom they came across, bad and good: and the feast was full of guests."So they went out into the roads and gathered together all they could find, both bad and good, and the banqueting hall was filled with guests.
Matthew 22:11And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment. But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a guest's robe;"Now the king came in to see the guests; and among them he discovered one who was not wearing a wedding-robe.
Matthew 22:12And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? But he was silent. And he says to him, Friend, how came you in here not having a guest's robe? And he had nothing to say."`My friend,' he said, `how is it that you came in here without a wedding robe?'
Matthew 22:13Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the king said to the servants, Put cords round his hands and feet and put him out into the dark; there will be weeping and cries of sorrow."The man stood speechless. Then the king said to the servants, "`Bind him hand and foot and fling him into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth.'
Matthew 22:14For many are called, but few are chosen. For out of all to whom the good news has come, only a small number will get salvation."For there are many called, but few chosen."
Matthew 22:15Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech. Then the Pharisees went and had a meeting to see how they might make use of his words to take him. Then the Pharisees went and consulted together how they might entrap Him in His conversation.
Matthew 22:16And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou dost not regard the person of men.And they sent to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Master, we see that you are true, and that you are teaching the true way of God, and have no fear of anyone, because you have no respect for a man's position. So they sent to Him their disciples together with the Herodians; who said, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and that you faithfully teach God's truth; and that no fear of man misleads you, for you are not biased by men's wealth or rank.
Matthew 22:17Tell us therefore what dost thou think, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?Give us, then, your opinion of this: Is it right to give tax to Caesar, or not?Give us your judgement therefore: is it allowable for us to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?"
Matthew 22:18But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites? But Jesus saw their trick and said, Oh false ones, why are you attempting to put me in the wrong?Perceiving their wickedness, Jesus replied, "Why are you hypocrites trying to ensnare me?
Matthew 22:19Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.Let me see the tax money. And they gave him a penny.Show me the tribute coin." And they brought Him a shilling.
Matthew 22:20And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this? And he said to them, Whose is this image and name on it?"Whose likeness and inscription," He asked, "is this?"
Matthew 22:21They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.They say to him, Caesar's. Then he said to them, Give to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things which are God's."Caesar's," they replied. "Pay therefore," He rejoined, "what is Caesar's to Caesar; and what is God's to God."
Matthew 22:22And hearing this they wondered, and leaving him, went their ways. And hearing it, they were full of wonder, and went away from him. They heard this, and were astonished; then left Him, and went their way.
Matthew 22:23That day there came to him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and asked him,On the same day there came to him the Sadducees, who say that there is no coming back from the dead: and they put a question to him, saying,On the same day a party of Sadducees came to Him, contending that there is no resurrection. And they put this case to Him.
Matthew 22:24Saying: Master, Moses said: If a man die having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up issue to his brother.Master, Moses said, If a man, at the time of his death, has no children, let his brother take his wife, and get a family for his brother;"Teacher," they said, "Moses enjoined, `If a man die childless, his brother shall marry his widow, and raise up a family for him.'
Matthew 22:25Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first having married a wife, died; and not having issue, left his wife to his brother. Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first was married and at his death, having no seed, gave his wife to his brother; Now we had among us seven brothers. The eldest of them married, but died childless, leaving his wife to his brother.
Matthew 22:26In like manner the second, and the third, and so on to the seventh. In the same way the second and the third, up to the seventh. So also did the second and the third, down to the seventh,
Matthew 22:27And last of all the woman died also. And last of all the woman came to her end.till the woman also died, after surviving them all.
Matthew 22:28At the resurrection therefore whose wife of the seven shall she be? for they all had her. When they come back from the dead, then, whose wife will she be of the seven? because they all had her.At the Resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? for they all married her."
Matthew 22:29And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.But Jesus said to them in answer, You are in error, not having knowledge of the Writings, or of the power of God.The reply of Jesus was, "You are in error, through ignorance of the Scriptures and of the power of God.
Matthew 22:30For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married; but shall be as the angels of God in heaven. For when they come back from the dead there are no husbands and wives, but they are as the angels in heaven. For in the Resurrection, men neither marry nor are women given in marriage, but they are like angels in Heaven.
Matthew 22:31And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken by God, saying to you:But about the dead coming back to life, have you no knowledge of what was said to you by God in the Writings:But as to the Resurrection of the dead, have you never read what God says to you,
Matthew 22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead but of the living.`I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of dead, but of living men."

Matthew 22:35And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:And one of them, a teacher of the law, put a question to him, testing him, and saying, and one of them, an expounder of the Law, asked Him as a test question,
Matthew 22:36Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?Master, which is the chief rule in the law?"Teacher, which is the greatest Commandment in the Law?"
Matthew 22:37Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. And he said to him, Have love for the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind."`Thou shalt love the Lord thy God,'" He answered, "`with thy whole heart, thy whole soul, thy whole mind.'
Matthew 22:38This is the greatest and the first commandment. This is the first and greatest rule. This is the greatest and foremost Commandment.
Matthew 22:39And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. And a second like it is this, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself. And the second is similar to it: `Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.'
Matthew 22:40On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets. On these two rules all the law and the prophets are based. The whole of the Law and the Prophets is summed up in these two Commandments."

Matthew 22:43He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying:He says to them, How then does David in the Spirit give him the name of Lord, saying,"How then," He asked, "does David, taught by the Spirit, call Him Lord, when he says,
Matthew 22:44The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool? The Lord said to my Lord, Be seated at my right hand, till I put under your feet all those who are against you?"`The Lord said to my Lord, sit at My right hand until I have put thy foes beneath thy feet'?
Matthew 22:45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?If David then gives him the name of Lord, how is he his son?"If therefore David calls Him Lord, how can He be his son?"
Matthew 22:46And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions. And no one was able to give him an answer, and so great was their fear of him, that from that day no one put any more questions to him.No one could say a word in reply, nor from that day did any one venture again to put a question to Him.
