Matthew 7:1 | Judge not, that you may not be judged, | Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged. | "Judge not, that you may not be judged; |
Matthew 7:2 | For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again. | For as you have been judging, so you will be judged, and with your measure will it be measured to you. | for your own judgement will be dealt and your own measure meted to yourselves. |
Matthew 7:3 | Any why seest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye; and seest not the beam that is in thy own eye? | And why do you take note of the grain of dust in your brother's eye, but take no note of the bit of wood which is in your eye? | And why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye, and not notice the beam which is in your own eye? |
Matthew 7:4 | Or how sayest thou to thy brother: Let me cast the mote out of thy eye; and behold a beam is in thy own eye? | Or how will you say to your brother, Let me take out the grain of dust from your eye, when you yourself have a bit of wood in your eye? | Or how say to your brother, `Allow me to take the splinter out of your eye,' while the beam is in your own eye? |
Matthew 7:5 | Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam in thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. | You false one, first take out the bit of wood from your eye, then will you see clearly to take out the grain of dust from your brother's eye. | Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the splinter from your brother's eye. |
Matthew 7:6 | Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you. | Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, or put your jewels before pigs, for fear that they will be crushed under foot by the pigs whose attack will then be made against you. | "Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor throw your pearls to the swine; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and then turn and attack you. |
Matthew 7:7 | Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you. | Make a request, and it will be answered; what you are searching for you will get; give the sign, and the door will be open to you: | "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. |
Matthew 7:8 | For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. | Because to everyone who makes a request, it will be given; and he who is searching will get his desire, and to him who gives the sign, the door will be open. | For it is always he who asks that receives, he who seeks that finds, and he who knocks that has the door opened to him. |
Matthew 7:9 | Or what man is there among you, of whom if his son shall ask bread, will he reach him a stone? | Or which of you, if his son makes a request for bread, will give him a stone? | What man is there among you, who if his son shall ask him for bread will offer him a stone? |
Matthew 7:10 | Or if he shall ask him a fish, will he reach him a serpent? | Or if he makes a request for a fish, will give him a snake? | Or if the son shall ask him for a fish will offer him a snake? |
Matthew 7:11 | If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your Father who is in heaven, give good things to them that ask him? | If you, then, being evil, are able to give good things to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who make requests to him? | If you then, imperfect as you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him! |
Matthew 7:12 | All things therefore whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them. For this is the law and the prophets. | All those things, then, which you would have men do to you, even so do you to them: because this is the law and the prophets. | Everything, therefore, be it what it may, that you would have men do to you, do you also the same to them; for in this the Law and the Prophets are summed up. |
Matthew 7:13 | Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. | Go in by the narrow door; for wide is the door and open is the way which goes to destruction, and great numbers go in by it. | "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad the road which leads to ruin, and many there are who enter by it; |
Matthew 7:14 | How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it! | For narrow is the door and hard the road to life, and only a small number make discovery of it. | because narrow is the gate and contracted the road which leads to Life, and few are those who find it. |
Matthew 7:15 | Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. | Be on the watch for false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are cruel wolves. | "Beware of the false teachers men who come to you in sheep's fleeces, but beneath that disguise they are ravenous wolves. |
Matthew 7:16 | By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? | By their fruits you will get knowledge of them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? | By their fruits you will easily recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thorns or figs from brambles? |
Matthew 7:17 | Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. | Even so, every good tree gives good fruit; but the bad tree gives evil fruit. | Just so every good tree produces good fruit, but a poisonous tree produces bad fruit. |
Matthew 7:18 | A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. | It is not possible for a good tree to give bad fruit, and a bad tree will not give good fruit. | A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor a poisonous tree good fruit. |
Matthew 7:19 | Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. | Every tree which does not give good fruit is cut down and put in the fire. | Every tree which does not yield good fruit is cut down and thrown aside for burning. |
Matthew 7:20 | Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them. | So by their fruits you will get knowledge of them. | So by their fruits at any rate, you will easily recognize them. |
Matthew 7:21 | Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. | Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will go into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the pleasure of my Father in heaven. | "Not every one who says to me, `Master, Master,' will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens, but only those who are obedient to my Father who is in Heaven. |
Matthew 7:22 | Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? | A great number will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in your name, and did we not by your name send out evil spirits, and by your name do works of power? | Many will say to me on that day, "`Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Thy name, and in Thy name expelled demons, and in Thy name performed many mighty works?' |
Matthew 7:23 | And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity. | And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil. | "And then I will tell them plainly, "`I never knew you: begone from me, you doers of wickedness.' |
Matthew 7:24 | Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, | Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock; | "Every one who hears these my teachings and acts upon them will be found to resemble a wise man who builds his house upon rock; |
Matthew 7:25 | And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock. | And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house, but it was not moved; because it was based on the rock. | and the heavy rain falls, the swollen torrents come, and the winds blow and beat against the house; yet it does not fall, for its foundation is on rock. |
Matthew 7:26 | And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand, | And everyone to whom my words come and who does them not, will be like a foolish man who made his house on sand; | And every one who hears these my teachings and does not act upon them will be found to resemble a fool who builds his house upon sand. |
Matthew 7:27 | And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof. | And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house; and it came down and great was its fall. | The heavy rain descends, the swollen torrents come, and the winds blow and burst upon the house, and it falls; and disastrous is the fall." |
Matthew 7:28 | And it came to pass when Jesus had fully ended these words, the people were in admiration at his doctrine. | And it came about, when Jesus had come to the end of these words, that the people were surprised at his teaching, | When Jesus had concluded this discourse, the crowds were filled with amazement at His teaching, |
Matthew 7:29 | For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes and Pharisees. | for he was teaching as one having authority, and not as their scribes. | for He had been teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their Scribes taught. |
