1st-John 2:1 | My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. But if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the just: | My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may be without sin. And if any man is a sinner, we have a friend and helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright one: | My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. |
1st-John 2:2 | And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. | He is the offering for our sins; and not for ours only, but for all the world. | And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. |
1st-John 2:3 | And by this we know that we have known him, if we keep his commandments. | And by this we may be certain that we have knowledge of him, if we keep his laws. | This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments. |
1st-John 2:4 | He who saith that he knoweth him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. | The man who says, I have knowledge of him, and does not keep his laws, is false, and there is nothing true in him: | He who says, "I know him," and doesn't keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. |
1st-John 2:5 | But he that keepeth his word, in him in very deed the charity of God is perfected; and by this we know that we are in him. | But in every man who keeps his word, the love of God is made complete. By this we may be certain that we are in him: | But whoever keeps his word, God's love has most assuredly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him: |
1st-John 2:6 | He that saith he abideth in him, ought himself also to walk, even as he walked. | He who says that he is living in him, will do as he did. | he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked. |
1st-John 2:7 | Dearly beloved, I write not a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have heard. | My loved ones, I do not give you a new law, but an old law which you had from the first; this old law is the word which came to your ears. | Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. |
1st-John 2:8 | Again a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true both in him and in you; because the darkness is passed, and the true light now shineth. | Again, I give you a new law, which is true in him and in you; for the night is near its end and the true light is even now shining out. | Again, I write a new commandment to you, which thing is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines. |
1st-John 2:9 | He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. | He who says that he is in the light, and has hate in his heart for his brother, is still in the dark. | He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now. |
1st-John 2:10 | He that loveth his brother, abideth in the light, and there is no scandal in him. | He who has love for his brother is in the light, and there is no cause of error in him. | He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him. |
1st-John 2:11 | But he that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth; because the darkness hath blinded his eyes. | But he who has hate for his brother is in the dark, walking in the dark with no knowledge of where he is going, unable to see because of the dark. | But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn't know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. |
1st-John 2:12 | I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. | I am writing to you, my children, because you have forgiveness of sins through his name. | I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. |
1st-John 2:13 | I write unto you, fathers, because you have known him, who is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. | I am writing to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil One. I have sent a letter to you, children, because you have knowledge of the Father. | I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father. |
1st-John 2:14 | I write unto you, babes, because you have known the Father. I write unto you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and you have overcome the wicked one. | I have sent a letter to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I have sent a letter to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God is in you, and because you have overcome the Evil One. | I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one. |
1st-John 2:15 | Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man love the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. | Have no love for the world or for the things which are in the world. If any man has love for the world, the love of the Father is not in him. | Don't love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love isn't in him. |
1st-John 2:16 | For all that is in the world, is the concupiscence of the flesh, and the concupiscence of the eyes, and the pride of life, which is not of the Father, but is of the world. | Because everything in the world, the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but of the world. | For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's. |
1st-John 2:17 | And the world passeth away, and the concupiscence thereof: but he that doth the will of God, abideth for ever. | And the world and its desires is coming to an end: but he who does God's pleasure is living for ever. | The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God's will remains forever. |
1st-John 2:18 | Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh, even now there are become many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last hour. | Little children, it is the last hour; and as you were given word that the Antichrist would come, so now a number of Antichrists have come to you; and by this we are certain that it is the last hour. | Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the end times. |
1st-John 2:19 | They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us; but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us. | They went out from us but they were not of us; if they had been of us they would still be with us: but they went out from us so that it might be made clear that they were not of us. | They went out from us, but they didn't belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us. |
1st-John 2:20 | But you have the unction from the Holy One, and know all things. | And you have the Spirit from the Holy One and you all have knowledge. | You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know the truth. |
1st-John 2:21 | I have not written to you as to them that know not the truth, but as to them that know it: and that no lie is of the truth. | I have not sent you this letter because you have no knowledge of what is true, but because you have knowledge, and because that which is false has nothing in common with that which is true. | I have not written to you because you don't know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. |
1st-John 2:22 | Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denieth the Father, and the Son. | Who is false but he who says that Jesus is not the Christ? He is the Antichrist who has no belief in the Father or the Son. | Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. |
1st-John 2:23 | Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father. He that confesseth the Son, hath the Father also. | He who has no belief in the Son has not the Father: he who makes clear his belief in the Son has the Father. | Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn't have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. |
1st-John 2:24 | As for you, let that which you have heard from the beginning, abide in you. If that abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father. | But as for you, keep in your hearts the things which were made clear to you from the first. If you keep these things in your hearts you will be kept in the Father and the Son. | Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father. |
1st-John 2:25 | And this is the promise which he hath promised us, life everlasting. | And this is the hope which he gave you, even eternal life. | This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life. |
1st-John 2:26 | These things have I written to you, concerning them that seduce you. | I am writing these things to you about those whose purpose is that you may be turned out of the true way. | These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray. |
1st-John 2:27 | And as for you, let the unction, which you have received from him, abide in you. And you have no need that any man teach you; but as his unction teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie. And as it hath taught you, abide in him. | As for you, the Spirit which he gave you is still in you, and you have no need of any teacher; but as his Spirit gives you teaching about all things, and is true and not false, so keep your hearts in him, through the teaching which he has given you. | As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don't need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him. |
1st-John 2:28 | And now, little children, abide in him, that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be confounded by him at his coming. | And now, my children, keep your hearts in him; so that at his revelation, we may have no fear or shame before him at his coming. | Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. |
1st-John 2:29 | If you know, that he is just, know ye, that every one also, who doth justice, is born of him. | If you have knowledge that he is upright, it is clear to you that everyone who does righteousness is his offspring. | If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of him. |
