Deuteronomy 6:1 | These are the precepts, and ceremonies, and judgments, which the Lord your God commanded that I should teach you, and that you should do them in the land into which you pass over to possess it: | Now these are the orders and the laws and the decisions which the Lord your God gave me for your teaching, so that you might do them in the land of your heritage to which you are going: | Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it; |
Deuteronomy 6:2 | That thou mayst fear the Lord thy God, and keep all his commandments and precepts, which I command thee, and thy sons, and thy grandsons, all the days of thy life, that thy days may be prolonged. | So that living in the fear of the Lord your God, you may keep all his laws and his orders, which I give you: you and your son and your son's son, all the days of your life; and so that your life may be long. | that you might fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, you, and your son, and your son's son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. |
Deuteronomy 6:3 | Hear, O Israel, and observe to do the things which the Lord hath commanded thee, that it may be well with thee, and thou mayst be greatly multiplied, as the Lord the God of thy fathers hath promised thee a land flowing with milk and honey. | So give ear, O Israel, and take care to do this; so that it may be well for you, and you may be greatly increased, as the Lord the God of your fathers has given you his word, in a land flowing with milk and honey. | Hear therefore, Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. |
Deuteronomy 6:4 | Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. | Give ear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord: | Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God; Yahweh is one: |
Deuteronomy 6:5 | Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole strength. | And the Lord your God is to be loved with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. | and you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. |
Deuteronomy 6:6 | And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart: | Keep these words, which I say to you this day, deep in your hearts; | These words, which I command you this day, shall be on your heart; |
Deuteronomy 6:7 | And thou shalt tell them to thy children, and thou shalt meditate upon them sitting in thy house, and walking on thy journey, sleeping and rising. | Teaching them to your children with all care, talking of them when you are at rest in your house or walking by the way, when you go to sleep and when you get up. | and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. |
Deuteronomy 6:8 | And thou shalt bind them as a sign on thy hand, and they shall be and shall move between thy eyes. | Let them be fixed as a sign on your hand, and marked on your brow; | You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes. |
Deuteronomy 6:9 | And thou shalt write them in the entry, and on the doors of thy house. | Have them lettered on the pillars of your houses and over the doors of your towns. | You shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and on your gates. |
Deuteronomy 6:10 | And when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, for which he swore to thy fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: and shall have given thee great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build, | And when the Lord your God has taken you into the land which he gave his oath to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, that he would give you; with great and fair towns which were not of your building; | It shall be, when Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you, great and goodly cities, which you didn't build, |
Deuteronomy 6:11 | Houses full of riches, which thou didst not set up, cisterns which thou didst not dig, vineyards and oliveyards, which thou didst not plant, | And houses full of good things not stored up by you, and places for storing water which you did not make, and vine-gardens and olive-trees not of your planting; and you have taken food and are full; | and houses full of all good things, which you didn't fill, and cisterns dug out, which you didn't dig, vineyards and olive-trees, which you didn't plant, and you shall eat and be full; |
Deuteronomy 6:12 | And thou shalt have eaten and be full: | Then take care that you keep your hearts true to the Lord, who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house. | then beware lest you forget Yahweh, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. |
Deuteronomy 6:13 | Take heed diligently lest thou forget the Lord, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and shalt serve him only, and thou shalt swear by his name. | Let the fear of the Lord your God be in your hearts, and be his servants, taking your oaths by his name. | You shall fear Yahweh your God; and him shall you serve, and shall swear by his name. |
Deuteronomy 6:14 | You shall not go after the strange gods of all the nations, that are round about you: | Do not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples round about you; | You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are round about you; |
Deuteronomy 6:15 | Because the Lord thy God is a jealous God in the midst of thee: lest at any time the wrath of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and take thee away from the face of the earth. | For the Lord your God who is with you is a God who will not let his honour be given to another; or the wrath of the Lord will be burning against you, causing your destruction from the face of the earth. | for Yahweh your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth. |
Deuteronomy 6:16 | Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God, as thou temptedst him in the place of temptation. | Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did in Massah. | You shall not tempt Yahweh your God, as you tempted him in Massah. |
Deuteronomy 6:17 | Keep the precepts of the Lord thy God, and the testimonies and ceremonies which he hath commanded thee. | Keep with care the orders of the Lord your God, and his rules and his laws which he has given you; | You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded you. |
Deuteronomy 6:18 | And do that which is pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with thee: and going in thou mayst possess the goodly land, concerning which the Lord swore to thy fathers, | And do what is upright and good in the eyes of the Lord your God, so that it may be well for you and you may go in and take for your heritage that good land from which the Lord undertook by an oath to your fathers, | You shall do that which is right and good in the sight of Yahweh; that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, |
Deuteronomy 6:19 | That he would destroy all thy enemies before thee, as he hath spoken. | To send out from before you all those who are against you. | to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as Yahweh has spoken. |
Deuteronomy 6:20 | And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying: What mean these testimonies, and ceremonies and judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded us? | And when your son says to you in time to come, What is the reason for these rules and laws and decisions which the Lord our God has given you? | When your son asks you in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh our God has commanded you? |
Deuteronomy 6:21 | Thou shalt say to him: We were bondmen of Pharao in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand. | Then you will say to your son, We were servants under Pharaoh's yoke in Egypt; and the Lord took us out of Egypt with a strong hand: | then you shall tell your son, We were Pharaoh's bondservants in Egypt: and Yahweh brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand; |
Deuteronomy 6:22 | And he wrought signs and wonders great and very grievous in Egypt against Pharao, and all his house, in our sight, | And the Lord did great signs and wonders against Egypt, and against Pharaoh and all his house, before our eyes: | and Yahweh showed signs and wonders, great and sore, on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes; |
Deuteronomy 6:23 | And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in and give us the land, concerning which he swore to our fathers. | And he took us out from that place, guiding us here to give us this land, as he said in his oath to our fathers. | and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers. |
Deuteronomy 6:24 | And the Lord commanded that we should do all these ordinances, and should fear the Lord our God, that it might be well with us all the days of our life, as it is at this day. | And the Lord gave us orders to keep all these laws, in the fear of the Lord our God, so that it might be well for us for ever, and that he might keep us from death, as he has done to this day. | Yahweh commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahweh our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as at this day. |
Deuteronomy 6:25 | And he will be merciful to us, if we keep and do all his precepts before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us. | And it will be our righteousness if we take care to keep all this order before the Lord our God as he has given it to us. | It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all this commandment before Yahweh our God, as he has commanded us. |
