John 8:1And Jesus went unto mount Olivet. But Jesus went to the Mountain of Olives.but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
John 8:2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them. And early in the morning he came again into the Temple and all the people came to him and he was seated teaching them.At dawn, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them.
John 8:3And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation; The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst,
John 8:4And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery. And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation.they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
John 8:5Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou? Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it?Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such. What then do you say about her?"
John 8:6And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground. They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger. They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger, as if he didn't hear.
John 8:7When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her.But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."
John 8:8And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground. And again, with bent head, he made letters on the floor.Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.
John 8:9But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst. And when his words came to their ears, they went out one by one, starting with the oldest even to the last, because they were conscious of what was in their hearts: and Jesus was there by himself with the woman before him. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the midst.
John 8:10Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee? Then Jesus got up, and seeing nobody but the woman, he said to her, Where are the men who said things against you? did no one give a decision against you?Jesus lifted himself up, and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"
John 8:11Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more. And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, And I do not give a decision against you: go, and never do wrong again.]She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more."
John 8:12Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Then again Jesus said to them, I am the light of the world; he who comes with me will not be walking in the dark but will have the light of life.Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 8:13The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true.So the Pharisees said to him, The witness you give is about yourself: your witness is not true. The Pharisees therefore said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your witness is not valid."
John 8:14Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go.Jesus said in answer, Even if I give witness about myself, my witness is true, because I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge of where I come from or of where I am going.Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my witness is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don't know where I came from, or where I am going.
John 8:15You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.You are judging from what you see; I am judging no man.You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
John 8:16And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself with me is the Father who sent me.Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
John 8:17And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.Even in your law it is said that the witness of two men is true. It's also written in your law that the testimony of two men is valid.
John 8:18I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.I give witness about myself and the Father who sent me gives witness about me.I am he who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me."
John 8:19They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also. Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father. They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
John 8:20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come.Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. No one took him, because his hour had not yet come.
John 8:21Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come. Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going.Jesus said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and will die in your sins. Where I go, you can't come."
John 8:22The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come?So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come? The Jews therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, 'Where I am going, you can't come?'"
John 8:23And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world. And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world. He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
John 8:24Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin.For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."
John 8:25They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you. Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first. They said therefore to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
John 8:26Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world.I have much to say about you and against you: but he who sent me is true and what he has said to me I say to the world.I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world."
John 8:27And they understood not, that he called God his Father. They did not see that his words were about the Father. They didn't perceive that he spoke to them about the Father.
John 8:28Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak:So Jesus said, When the Son of man has been lifted up by you, then it will be clear to you who I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but say as the Father gave me teaching.Jesus therefore said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then will you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.
John 8:29And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him.He who sent me is with me; he has not gone from me, because at all times I do the things which are pleasing to him.He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn't left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."
John 8:30When he spoke these things, many believed in him. When he said this a number came to have faith in him.As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
John 8:31Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed. Then Jesus said to the Jews who had faith in him, If you keep my word, then you are truly my disciples;Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
John 8:32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. And you will have knowledge of what is true, and that will make you free. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
John 8:33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free? They said to him in answer, We are Abraham's seed and have never been any man's servant: why do you say, You will become free? They answered him, "We are Abraham's seed, and have never yet been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, 'You will be made free?'"
John 8:34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.And this was the answer Jesus gave them: Truly I say to you, Everyone who does evil is the servant of sin.Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
John 8:35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever. Now the servant does not go on living in the house for ever, but the son does.A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever.
John 8:36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. If then the son makes you free, you will be truly free.If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:37I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.I am conscious that you are Abraham's seed; but you have a desire to put me to death because my word has no place in you.I know that you are Abraham's seed, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
John 8:38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father.I say the things which I have seen in my Father's house: and you do the things which come to you from your father's house.I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father."
John 8:39They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham. In answer they said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children you would do what Abraham did. They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not.But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that. But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham didn't do this.
John 8:41You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.You are doing the works of your father. They said to him, We are true sons of Abraham; we have one Father, who is God.You do the works of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God."
John 8:42Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me:Jesus said to them, If God was your Father you would have love for me, because it was from God I came and am here. I did not come of myself, but he sent me.Therefore Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came forth and have come from God. For neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:43Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. Why are my words not clear to you? It is because your ears are shut to my teaching. Why don't you understand my speech? Because you can't hear my word.
John 8:44You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false. You are of your Father, the devil, and it is your desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn't stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:45But if I say the truth, you believe me not.But because I say what is true, you have no belief in me.But because I tell the truth, you don't believe me.
John 8:46Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me?Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me?Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
John 8:47He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.He who is a child of God gives ear to the words of God: your ears are not open to them because you are not from God.He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don't hear, because you are not of God."
John 8:48The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? The Jews said to him in answer, Are we not right in saying that you are of Samaria and have an evil spirit? Then the Jews answered him, "Don't we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?"
John 8:49Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me.And this was the answer of Jesus: I have not an evil spirit; but I give honour to my Father and you do not give honour to me.Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
John 8:50But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.I, however, am not in search of glory for myself: there is One who is searching for it and he is judge. But I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.
John 8:51Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.Truly I say to you, If a man keeps my word he will never see death. Most assuredly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death."
John 8:52The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever. The Jews said to him, Now we are certain that you have an evil spirit. Abraham is dead, and the prophets are dead; and you say, If a man keeps my word he will never see death. Then the Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, 'If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.'
John 8:53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself? Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: who do you say that you are?Are you greater than our father, Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"
John 8:54Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.Jesus said in answer, If I take glory for myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who gives me glory, of whom you say that he is your God.Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.
John 8:55And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word. You have no knowledge of him, but I have knowledge of him; and if I said I have no knowledge of him I would be talking falsely like you: but I have full knowledge of him, and I keep his word. You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I don't know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.
John 8:56Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.Your father Abraham was full of joy at the hope of seeing my day: he saw it and was glad.Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad."
John 8:57The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Then the Jews said to him, You are not fifty years old; have you seen Abraham? The Jews therefore said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?"
John 8:58Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I am.Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, before Abraham was born, I AM."
John 8:59They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple. So they took up stones to send at him: but Jesus got secretly out of their way and went out of the Temple. They took up stones therefore to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
