Joshua 2:1And Josue the son of Nun sent from Setim two men, to spy secretly: and said to them: Go, and view the land and the city of Jericho. n They went and entered into the house of a woman that was a harlot named Rahab, and lodged with her.Then Joshua, the son of Nun, sent two men from Shittim secretly, with the purpose of searching out the land, and Jericho. So they went and came to the house of a loose woman of the town, named Rahab, where they took their rest for the night.Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and Jericho. They went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and lay there.
Joshua 2:2And it was told the king of Jericho, and was said : Behold there are men come in hither, by night, of the children of Israel, to spy the land.And it was said to the king of Jericho, See, some men have come here tonight from the children of Israel with the purpose of searching out the land.It was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in here tonight of the children of Israel to search out the land.
Joshua 2:3And the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying: Bring forth the men that came to thee, and are entered into thy house: for they are spies, and are come to view all the land.Then the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, Send out the men who have come to you and are in your house; for they have come with the purpose of searching out all the land.The king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men who are come to you, who have entered into your house; for they have come to search out all the land.
Joshua 2:4And the woman taking the men, hid them, and said: I confess they came to me, but I knew not whence they were:And the woman took the two men and put them in a secret place; then she said, Yes, the men came to me, but I had no idea where they came from;The woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yes, the men came to me, but I didn't know whence they were:
Joshua 2:5And at the time of shutting the gate in the dark, they also went out together. I know not whither they are gone: pursue after them quickly, and you will overtake them.And when it was the time for shutting the doors at dark, they went out; I have no idea where the men went: but if you go after them quickly, you will overtake them.and it happened about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; where the men went I don't know: pursue after them quickly; for you will overtake them.
Joshua 2:6But she made the men go up to the top of her house, and covered them with the stalks of flax, which was there.But she had taken them up to the roof, covering them with the stems of flax which she had put out in order there.But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order on the roof.
Joshua 2:7Now they that were sent, pursued after them, by the way that leadeth to the fords of the Jordan: and as soon as they were gone out, the gate was presently shut.So the men went after them on the road to Jordan as far as the river-crossing: and when they had gone out after them, the door into the town was shut.The men pursued after them the way to the Jordan to the fords: and as soon as those who pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
Joshua 2:8The men that were hidden were not yet asleep, when behold the woman went up to them, and said:And before the men went to rest, she came up to them on the roof,Before they were laid down, she came up to them on the roof;
Joshua 2:8the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea at your going in, when you came out of Egypt: and what things you did to the two kings of the Amorrhites, that were beyond the Jordan: Sehon and Og whom you slew.And said to them, It is clear to me that the Lord has given you the land, and that the fear of you has come on us;and she said to the men, I know that Yahweh has given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
Joshua 2:9I know that the Lord hath given this land to you: for the dread of you is fallen upon us, and all the inhabitants of the land have lost all strength.For we have had news of how the Lord made the Red Sea dry before you when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, on the other side of Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you gave up to the curse.For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
Joshua 2:10We have heard thatAnd because of this news, our hearts became like water, and there was no more spirit in any of us because of you; for the Lord your God is God in heaven on high and here on earth.As soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
Joshua 2:11And hearing these things we were affrighted, and our heart fainted away, neither did there remain any spirit in us at your coming in: for the Lord your God he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath.So now, will you give me your oath by the Lord, that, because I have been kind to you, you will be kind to my father's house,Now therefore, please swear to me by Yahweh, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token;
Joshua 2:12Now therefore swear ye to me by the Lord, that as I have shewn mercy to you, so you also will shew mercy to my father's house: and give me a true token,And that you will keep safe my father and mother and my brothers and sisters and all they have, so that death may not come on us?and that you will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.
Joshua 2:13That you will save my father and mother, my brethren end sisters, and all things that are theirs, and deliver our souls from death.And the men said to her, Our life for yours if you keep our business secret; and when the Lord has given us the land, we will keep faith and be kind to you.The men said to her, Our life for yours, if you don't utter this our business; and it shall be, when Yahweh gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.
Joshua 2:14They answered her: Be our lives for you unto death, only if thou betray us not. And when the Lord shall have delivered us the land, we will shew thee mercy and truth.Then she let them down from the window by a cord, for the house where she was living was on the town wall.Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.
Joshua 2:15Then she let them down with a cord out of a window: for her house joined close to the wall.And she said to them, Get away into the hill-country, or the men who have gone after you will overtake you; keep yourselves safe there for three days, till the searchers have come back, and then go on your way.She said to them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light on you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may you go your way.
Joshua 2:16And she said to them: Get ye up to the mountains, lest perhaps they meet you as they return: and there lie ye hid three days, till they come back, and so you shall go on your way.And the men said to her, We will only be responsible for this oath which you have made us take,The men said to her, We will be guiltless of this your oath which you have made us to swear.
Joshua 2:17And they said to her: We shall be blameless of this oath, which thou hast made us swear:If, when we come into the land, you put this cord of bright red thread in the window from which you let us down; and get your father and mother and your brothers and all your family into the house;Behold, when we come into the land, you shall bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which you did let us down by: and you shall gather to you into the house your father, and your mother, and your brothers, and all your father's household.
Joshua 2:18If when we come into the land, this scarlet cord be a sign, and thou tie it in the window, by which thou hast let us down: and gather together thy father and mother, and brethren and all thy kindred into thy house.Then if anyone goes out of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, we will not be responsible; but if any damage comes to anyone in the house, his blood will be on our heads.It shall be, that whoever shall go out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his head, and we shall be guiltless: and whoever shall be with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be on him.
Joshua 2:19Whosoever shall go out of the door of thy house, his blood shall be upon his own head, and we shall be quit. But the blood of all that shall be with thee in the house, shall light upon our head, if any man touch them.But if you say anything about our business here, then we will be free from the oath you have made us take.But if you utter this our business, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you have made us to swear.
Joshua 2:20But if thou wilt betray us, and utter this word abroad, we shall be quit of this oath which thou hast made us swear.And she said, Let it be as you say. Then she sent them away, and they went; and she put the bright red cord in the window.She said, According to your words, so be it. She sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
Joshua 2:21And she answered: As you have spoken, so be it done. And sending them on their way, she hung the scarlet cord in the window.And they went into the hill-country and were there three days, till the men who had gone after them had come back; and those who went after them were searching for them everywhere without coming across them.They went, and came to the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but didn't find them.
Joshua 2:22But they went and came to the mountains, and stayed there three days till they that pursued them were returned. For having sought them through all the way, they found them not.Then the two men came down from the hill-country and went over and came back to Joshua, the son of Nun; and they gave him a complete account of what had taken place.Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them.
Joshua 2:23And when they were gone back into the city, the spies returned, and came down from the mountain: and passing over the Jordan, they came to Josue the son of Nun, and told him all that befel them.And they said to Joshua, Truly, the Lord has given all the land into our hands; and all the people of the land have become like water because of us.They said to Joshua, Truly Yahweh has delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.
Joshua 2:24And said: The Lord hath delivered all this land into our hands, and all the inhabitants thereof are overthrown with fear.
