Romans 6:1 | What shall we say, then? shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? | What may we say, then? are we to go on in sin so that there may be more grace? | What will we say then? Will we continue in sin, that grace may abound? |
Romans 6:2 | God forbid. For we that are dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein? | In no way. How may we, who are dead to sin, be living in it any longer? | Certainly not! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer? |
Romans 6:3 | Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death? | Or are you without the knowledge that all we who had baptism into Christ Jesus, had baptism into his death? | Or don't you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? |
Romans 6:4 | For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. | We have been placed with him among the dead through baptism into death: so that as Christ came again from the dead by the glory of the Father, we, in the same way, might be living in new life. | We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. |
Romans 6:5 | For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. | For, if we have been made like him in his death, we will, in the same way, be like him in his coming to life again; | For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection; |
Romans 6:6 | Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer. | Being conscious that our old man was put to death on the cross with him, so that the body of sin might be put away, and we might no longer be servants to sin. | knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin. |
Romans 6:7 | For he that is dead is justified from sin. | Because he who is dead is free from sin. | For he who has died has been freed from sin. |
Romans 6:8 | Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ: | But if we are dead with Christ, we have faith that we will be living with him; | But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him; |
Romans 6:9 | Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him. | Having knowledge that because Christ has come back from the dead, he will never again go down to the dead; death has no more power over him. | knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no more has dominion over him! |
Romans 6:10 | For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God: | For his death was a death to sin, but his life now is a life which he is living to God. | For the death that he died, he died to sin once; but the life that he lives, he lives to God. |
Romans 6:11 | So do you also reckon, that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God, in Christ Jesus our Lord. | Even so see yourselves as dead to sin, but living to God in Christ Jesus. | Thus also consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
Romans 6:12 | Let no sin therefore reign in your mortal body, so as to obey the lusts thereof. | For this cause do not let sin be ruling in your body which is under the power of death, so that you give way to its desires; | Therefore don't let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. |
Romans 6:13 | Neither yield ye your members as instruments of iniquity unto sin; but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of justice unto God. | And do not give your bodies to sin as the instruments of wrongdoing, but give yourselves to God, as those who are living from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God. | Neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. |
Romans 6:14 | For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under grace. | For sin may not have rule over you: because you are not under law, but under grace. | For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace. |
Romans 6:15 | What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. | What then? are we to go on in sin because we are not under law but under grace? Let it not be so. | What then? Will we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not! |
Romans 6:16 | Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are whom you obey, whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto justice. | Are you not conscious that you are the servants of him to whom you give yourselves to do his desire? if to sin, the end being death, or if to do the desire of God, the end being righteousness. | Don't you know that to whom you present yourselves as servants to obedience, his servants you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness? |
Romans 6:17 | But thanks be to God, that you were the servants of sin, but have obeyed from the heart, unto that form of doctrine, into which you have been delivered. | But praise be to God that though you were the servants of sin, you have now given yourselves freely to that form of teaching under which you were placed; | But thanks be to God, that, whereas you were servants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto you were delivered. |
Romans 6:18 | Being then freed from sin, we have been made servants of justice. | And being made free from sin you have been made the servants of righteousness. | Being made free from sin, you became servants of righteousness. |
Romans 6:19 | I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity; so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification. | I am using words in the way of men, because your flesh is feeble: as you gave your bodies as servants to what is unclean, and to evil to do evil, so now give them as servants to righteousness to do what is holy. | I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh, for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification. |
Romans 6:20 | For when you were the servants of sin, you were free men to justice. | When you were servants of sin you were free from righteousness. | For when you were servants of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. |
Romans 6:21 | What fruit therefore had you then in those things, of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death. | What fruit had you at that time in the things which are now a shame to you? for the end of such things is death. | What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. |
Romans 6:22 | But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end life everlasting. | But now, being free from sin, and having been made servants to God, you have your fruit in that which is holy, and the end is eternal life. | But now, being made free from sin, and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification, and the result of eternal life. |
Romans 6:23 | For the wages of sin is death. But the grace of God, life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord. | For the reward of sin is death; but what God freely gives is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. | For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
