Acts 8:1 | And at that time there was raised a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all dispersed through the countries of Judea, and Samaria, except the apostles. | And Saul gave approval to his death. Now at that time a violent attack was started against the church in Jerusalem; and all but the Apostles went away into all parts of Judaea and Samaria. | And Saul was assenting to his death, and there came in that day a great persecution upon the assembly in Jerusalem, all also were scattered abroad in the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles; |
Acts 8:2 | And devout men took order for Stephen's funeral, and made great mourning over him. | And God-fearing men put Stephen's body in its last resting-place, making great weeping over him. | and devout men carried away Stephen, and made great lamentation over him; |
Acts 8:3 | But Saul made havock of the church, entering in from house to house, and dragging away men and women, committed them to prison. | But Saul was burning with hate against the church, going into every house and taking men and women and putting them in prison. | and Saul was making havoc of the assembly, into every house entering, and haling men and women, was giving them up to prison; |

Now there was a certain man named Simon, who before had been a magician in that city, seducing the people of Samaria, giving out that he was some great one: | But there was a certain man named Simon, who in the past had been a wonder-worker and a cause of surprise to the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was a great man: | And a certain man, by name Simon, was before in the city using magic, and amazing the nation of Samaria, saying himself to be a certain great one, |
Acts 8:10 | To whom they all gave ear, from the least to the greatest, saying: This man is the power of God, which is called great. | To whom they all gave attention, from the smallest to the greatest, saying, This man is that power of God which is named Great. | to whom they were all giving heed, from small unto great, saying, `This one is the great power of God;` |
Acts 8:11 | And they were attentive to him, because, for a long time, he had bewitched them with his magical practices. | And they gave attention to him, because for a long time his wonder-working powers had kept them under his control. | and they were giving heed to him, because of his having for a long time amazed them with deeds of magic. |
Acts 8:12 | But when they had believed Philip preaching of the kingdom of God, in the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. | But when they had faith in the good news given by Philip about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, a number of men and women had baptism. | And when they believed Philip, proclaiming good news, the things concerning the reign of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women; |
Acts 8:13 | Then Simon himself believed also; and being baptized, he adhered to Philip. And being astonished, wondered to see the signs and exceeding great miracles which were done. | And Simon himself had faith and, having had baptism, he went with Philip and, seeing the signs and the great wonders which he did, he was full of surprise. | and Simon also himself did believe, and, having been baptized, he was continuing with Philip, beholding also signs and mighty acts being done, he was amazed. |

Acts 8:20 | Keep thy money to thyself, to perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. | But Peter said, May your money come to destruction with you, because you had the idea that what is freely given by God may be got for a price. | And Peter said unto him, `Thy silver with thee may it be to destruction! because the gift of God thou didst think to possess through money; |
Acts 8:21 | Thou hast no part nor lot in this matter. For thy heart is not right in the sight of God. | You have no part in this business, because your heart is not right before God. | thou hast neither part nor lot in this thing, for thy heart is not right before God; |
Acts 8:22 | Do penance therefore for this thy wickedness; and pray to God, that perhaps this thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee. | Let your heart be changed, and make prayer to God that you may have forgiveness for your evil thoughts. | reform, therefore, from this thy wickedness, and beseech God, if then the purpose of thy heart may be forgiven thee, |
Acts 8:23 | For I see thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bonds of iniquity. | For I see that you are prisoned in bitter envy and the chains of sin. | for in the gall of bitterness, and bond of unrighteousness, I perceive thee being.` |
Acts 8:24 | Then Simon answering, said: Pray you for me to the Lord, that none of these things which you have spoken may come upon me. | And Simon, answering, said, Make prayer for me to the Lord, so that these things which you have said may not come on me. | And Simon answering, said, `Beseech ye for me unto the Lord, that nothing may come upon me of the things ye have spoken.` |
Acts 8:25 | And they indeed having testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many countries of the Samaritans. | So they, having given their witness and made clear the word of the Lord, went back to Jerusalem, giving the good news on their way in a number of the small towns of Samaria. | They indeed, therefore, having testified fully, and spoken the word of the Lord, did turn back to Jerusalem; in many villages also of the Samaritans they did proclaim good news. |
Acts 8:26 | Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying: Arise, go towards the south, to the way that goeth down from Jerusalem into Gaza: this is desert. | But an angel of the Lord said to Philip, Get up, and go to the south, to the road which goes from Jerusalem to Gaza, through the waste land. | And a messenger of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, `Arise, and go on toward the south, on the way that is going down from Jerusalem to Gaza,` this is desert. |

Acts 8:28 | And he was returning, sitting in this chariot, and reading Isaias the prophet. | He was going back, seated in his carriage, and was reading the book of the prophet Isaiah. | he was also returning, and is sitting on his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. |
Acts 8:29 | And the Spirit said to Philip: Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. | And the Spirit said to Philip, Go near, and get on his carriage. | And the Spirit said to Philip, `Go near, and be joined to this chariot;` |
Acts 8:30 | And Philip running thither, heard him reading the prophet Isaias. And he said: Thinkest thou that thou understandest what thou readest? | And Philip, running up to him, saw that he was reading Isaiah the prophet, and said to him, Is the sense of what you are reading clear to you? | and Philip having run near, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, `Dost thou then know what thou dost read?` |
Acts 8:31 | Who said: And how can I, unless some man shew me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. | And he said, How is that possible when I have no guide? And he made Philip get up by his side. | and he said, `Why, how am I able, if some one may not guide me?` he called Philip also, having come up, to sit with him. |
Acts 8:32 | And the place of the scripture which he was reading was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb without voice before his shearer, so openeth he not his mouth. | Now the place in the book where he was reading was this: He was taken, like a sheep, to be put to death; and as a lamb is quiet when its wool is being cut, so he made no sound: | And the contents of the Writing that he was reading was this: `As a sheep unto slaughter he was led, and as a lamb before his shearer dumb, so he doth not open his mouth; |
Acts 8:33 | In humility his judgment was taken away. His generation who shall declare, for his life shall be taken from the earth? | Being of low degree, his cause was not given a hearing: who has knowledge of his family? for his life is cut off from the earth. | in his humiliation his judgment was taken away, and his generation who shall declare? because taken from the earth is his life.` |
Acts 8:34 | And the eunuch answering Philip, said: I beseech thee, of whom doth the prophet speak this? of himself, or of some other man? | And the Ethiopian said to Philip, About whom are these words said by the prophet? about himself, or some other? | And the eunuch answering Philip said, `I pray thee, about whom doth the prophet say this? about himself, or about some other one?` |
Acts 8:35 | Then Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning at this scripture, preached unto him Jesus. | So Philip, starting from this writing, gave him the good news about Jesus. | and Philip having opened his mouth, and having begun from this Writing, proclaimed good news to him Jesus. |
Acts 8:36 | And as they went on their way, they came to a certain water; and the eunuch said: See, here is water: what doth hinder me from being baptized? | And while they were going on their way, they came to some water, and the Ethiopian said, See, here is water; why may I not have baptism? | And as they were going on the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch said, `Lo, water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?` |
Acts 8:37 | And Philip said: If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answering, said: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. | [] | [And Philip said, `If thou dost believe out of all the heart, it is lawful;` and he answering said, `I believe Jesus Christ to be the Son of God;`] |

Acts 8:40 | But Philip was found in Azotus; and passing through, he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. | But Philip came to Azotus, and went through all the towns, preaching the good news, till he came to Caesarea. | and Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through, he was proclaiming good news to all the cities, till his coming to Cesarea. |
