Haggai 1:1 | In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Aggeus the prophet, to Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, governor of Juda, and to Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, saying: | In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, ruler of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, | In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, saying: |
Haggai 1:2 | Thus saith the Lord of hosts, saying: This people saith: The time is not yet come for building the house of the Lord. | These are the words of the Lord of armies: These people say, The time has not come for building the Lord's house. | Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: This people! they have said, `The time hath not come, The time the house of Jehovah [is] to be built.` |
Haggai 1:3 | And the word of the Lord came by the hand of Aggeus the prophet, saying: | Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, | And there is a word of Jehovah by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying: |
Haggai 1:4 | Is it time for you to dwell in ceiled houses, and this house lie desolate? | Is it a time for you to be living in roofed houses while this house is a waste? | Is it time for you you! To dwell in your covered houses, And this house to lie waste? |
Haggai 1:5 | And now thus saith the Lord of hosts: Set your hearts to consider your ways. | For this cause the Lord of armies has said, Give thought to your ways. | And now, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Set your heart to your ways. |
Haggai 1:6 | You have sowed much, and brought in little: you have eaten, but have not had enough: you have drunk, but have not been filled with drink: you have clothed yourselves, but have not been warmed: and he that hath earned wages, put them into a bag with holes. | Much has been planted, but little got in; you take food, but have not enough; you take drink, but are not full; you are clothed, but no one is warm; and he who gets payment for his work, gets it to put it into a bag full of holes. | Ye have sown much, and brought in little, To eat, and not to satiety, To drink, and not to drunkenness, To clothe, and none hath heat, And he who is hiring himself out, Is hiring himself for a bag pierced through. |
Haggai 1:7 | Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Set Your hearts upon your ways: | This is what the Lord of armies has said: Give thought to your ways. | Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Set your heart to your ways. |
Haggai 1:8 | Go up to the mountain, bring timber, and build the house: and it shall be acceptable to me, and I shall be glorified, saith the Lord. | Go up to the hills and get wood and put up the house; and I will take pleasure in it and be honoured, says the Lord. | Go up the mountain, and ye have brought in wood, And build the house, and I am pleased with it. And I am honoured, said Jehovah. |
Haggai 1:9 | You have looked for more, and behold it became less, and you brought it home, and I blowed it away: why, saith the Lord of hosts? because my house is desolate, and you make haste every man to his own house. | You were looking for much, and it came to little; and when you got it into your house, I took it away with a breath. Why? says the Lord of armies. Because of my house which is a waste, while every man takes care of the house which is his. | Looking for much, and lo, little, And ye brought [it] home, and I blew on it, Wherefore? an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, Because of My house that is waste, And ye are running each to his house, |
Haggai 1:10 | Therefore the heavens over you were stayed from giving dew, and the earth was hindered from yielding her fruits: | For this cause the heaven over you is kept from giving dew, and the earth from giving her fruit. | Therefore, over you refrained have the heavens from dew, And the land hath refrained its increase. |
Haggai 1:11 | And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon all that the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon beasts, and upon all the labour of the hands. | And by my order no rain came on the land or on the mountains or the grain or the wine or the oil or the produce of the earth or on men or cattle or on any work of man's hands. | And I proclaim draught on the land, And on the mountains, and on the corn, And on the new wine, and on the oil, And on what the ground doth bring forth, And on man, and on beast, And on all labour of the hands.` |
Haggai 1:12 | Then Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and all the remnant of the people hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, and to the words of Aggeus the prophet, as the Lord their God sent him to them: and the people feared before the Lord. | Then Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all the rest of the people, gave ear to the voice of the Lord their God and to the words of Haggai the prophet, because the Lord their God had sent him, and the people were in fear before the Lord. | And Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and all the remnant of the people, do hearken to the voice of Jehovah their God, and unto the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him, and the people are afraid of the face of Jehovah. |
Haggai 1:13 | And Aggeus the messenger of the Lord, as one of the messengers of the Lord, spoke, saying to the people: I am with you, saith the Lord. | Then Haggai, whom the Lord had sent to give his words to the people, said, I am with you, says the Lord. | And Haggai, messenger of Jehovah, in messages of Jehovah, speaketh to the people, saying: `I [am] with you, an affirmation of Jehovah.` |
Haggai 1:14 | And the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zorobabel the son of Salathiel governor of Juda, and the spirit of Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people: and they went in, and did the work in the house of the Lord of hosts their God. | And the spirit of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, ruler of Judah, was moved by the Lord, as was the spirit of Joshua, the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the rest of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the Lord of armies, their God. | And Jehovah doth stir up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they come in, and do work in the house of Jehovah of Hosts their God, |
