| Matthew 3:1 | And in those days cometh John the Baptist preaching in the desert of Judea. | And in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the waste land of Judaea, | And in those days cometh John the Baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea, |
| Matthew 3:2 | And saying: Do penance: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. | Saying, Let your hearts be turned from sin; for the kingdom of heaven is near. | and saying, `Reform, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens,` |
| Matthew 3:3 | For this is he that was spoken of by Isaias the prophet, saying: A voice of one crying in the desert, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. | For this is he of whom Isaiah the prophet said, The voice of one crying in the waste land, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his roads straight. | for this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, `A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths.` |
| Matthew 3:4 | And the same John had his garment of camels' hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins: and his meat was locusts and wild honey. | Now John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather band about him; and his food was locusts and honey. | And this John had his clothing of camel`s hair, and a girdle of skin round his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and honey of the field. |

Every tree therefore that doth not yield good fruit, shall be cut down, and cast into the fire. | And even now the axe is put to the root of the trees; every tree then which does not give good fruit is cut down, and put into the fire. | and now also, the axe unto the root of the trees is laid, every tree therefore not bearing good fruit is hewn down, and to fire is cast. |
