Exodus 34:1 | And after this he said: Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the former, and I will write upon them the words which were in the tables, which thou brokest. | And Jehovah said to Moses, Hew for thyself two tables of stone like the first; and I will write upon the tables the words that were upon the first tables, which thou hast broken. | And the Lord said to Moses, Make two other stones like the first two; and I will put on them the words which were on the first stones, which were broken by you. |
Exodus 34:2 | Be ready in the morning, that thou mayst forthwith go up into mount Sinai, and thou shalt stand with me upon the top of the mount. | And be ready for the morning, and go up in the morning to mount Sinai, and stand there before me on the top of the mountain. | And be ready by the morning, and come up on Mount Sinai, and come before me there in the morning, on the top of the mountain. |
Exodus 34:3 | Let no man go up with thee: and let not any man be seen throughout all the mount: neither let the oxen nor the sheep feed over against it. | And let no man go up with thee, neither shall any man be seen on all the mountain; neither shall sheep and oxen feed in front of that mountain. | No one is to come up with you, and let no man be seen anywhere on the mountain; let no flocks or herds come near to get their food at its foot. |
Exodus 34:4 | Then he cut out two tables of stone, such as had been before: and rising very early he went up into the mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, carrying with him the tables. | And he hewed two tables of stone like the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to mount Sinai, as Jehovah had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone. | So Moses got two stones cut like the first; and early in the morning he went up Mount Sinai, as the Lord had said, with the two stones in his hand. |
Exodus 34:5 | And when the Lord was come down in a cloud, Moses stood with him, calling upon the name of the Lord. | And Jehovah came down in the cloud, and stood beside him there, and proclaimed the name of Jehovah. | And the Lord came down in the cloud and took his place by the side of Moses, and Moses gave worship to the name of the Lord. |
Exodus 34:6 | And when he passed before him, he said: O the Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, patient and of much compassion, and true, | And Jehovah passed by before his face, and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah ùGod merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in goodness and truth, | And the Lord went past before his eyes, saying, The Lord, the Lord, a God full of pity and grace, slow to wrath and great in mercy and faith; |
Exodus 34:7 | Who keepest mercy unto thousands: who takest away iniquity, and wickedness, and sin, and no man of himself is innocent before thee. Who renderest the iniquity of the fathers to the children, and to the grandchildren, unto the third and fourth generation. | keeping mercy unto thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but by no means clearing [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, upon the third and upon the fourth [generation]. | Having mercy on thousands, overlooking evil and wrongdoing and sin; he will not let wrongdoers go free, but will send punishment on children for the sins of their fathers, and on their children's children to the third and fourth generation. |
Exodus 34:8 | And Moses making haste, bowed down prostrate unto the earth, and adoring, | And Moses made haste, and bowed his head to the earth and worshipped, | Then Moses quickly went down on his face in worship. |
Exodus 34:9 | Said: If I have found grace in thy sight: O Lord, I beseech thee, that thou wilt go with us, (for it is a stiffnecked people,) and take away our iniquities and sin, and possess us. | and said, If indeed I have found grace in thine eyes, Lord, let the Lord, I pray thee, go in our midst; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for an inheritance! | And he said, If now I have grace in your eyes, let the Lord go among us, for this is a stiff-necked people, and give us forgiveness for our wrongdoing and our sin, and take us for your heritage. |
Exodus 34:10 | The Lord answered: I will make a covenant in the sight of all. I will do signs such as were never seen upon the earth, nor in any nation: that this people, in the midst of whom thou art, may see the terrible work of the Lord which I will do. | And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels that have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people in the midst of which thou [art] shall see the work of Jehovah; for a terrible thing it shall be that I will do with thee. | And the Lord said, See, this is what I will undertake: before the eyes of your people I will do wonders, such as have not been done in all the earth or in any nation: and all your people will see the work of the Lord, for what I am about to do for you is greatly to be feared. |
Exodus 34:11 | Observe all things which this day I command thee: I myself will drive out before thy face the Amorrhite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, and the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite. | Observe what I command thee this day: behold, I will drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. | Take care to do the orders which I give you today; I will send out from before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. |
Exodus 34:12 | Beware thou never join in friendship with the inhabitants of that land, which may be thy ruin: | Take heed to thyself, that thou make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which thou shalt come, lest it be a snare in the midst of thee; | But take care, and do not make any agreement with the people of the land where you are going, for it will be a cause of sin to you. |
Exodus 34:13 | But destroy their altars, break their statues, and cut down their groves: | but ye shall demolish their altars, shatter their statues, and hew down their Asherahs. | But their altars are to be overturned and their pillars broken and their images cut down: |
Exodus 34:14 | Adore not any strange god. The Lord his name is Jealous, he is a jealous God. | For thou shalt worship no other ùGod; for Jehovah Jealous is his name is a jealous ùGod; | For you are to be worshippers of no other god: for the Lord is a God who will not give his honour to another. |
Exodus 34:15 | Make no covenant with the men of those countries lest, when they have committed fornication with their gods, and have adored their idols, some one call thee to eat of the things sacrificed. | lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and then, when they go a whoring after their gods, and sacrifice unto their gods, thou be invited, and eat of their sacrifice, | So see that you make no agreement with the people of the land, and do not go after their gods, or take part in their offerings, or be guests at their feasts, |
Exodus 34:16 | Neither shalt thou take of their daughters a wife for thy son, lest after they themselves have committed fornication, they make thy sons also to commit fornication with their gods. | and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods. | Or take their daughters for your sons; for when their daughters give worship before their gods, they will make your sons take part with them. |
Exodus 34:17 | Thou shalt not make to thyself any molten gods. | Thou shalt make thyself no molten gods. | Make for yourselves no gods of metal. |
Exodus 34:18 | Thou shalt keep the feast of the unleavened bread. Seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee in the time of the month of the new corn: for in the month of the springtime thou camest out from Egypt. | The feast of the unleavened bread shalt thou keep: seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I have commanded thee, at the appointed time of the month Abib; for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt. | Keep the feast of unleavened bread; for seven days your food is to be bread without leaven, as I gave you orders, at the regular time in the month Abib; for in that month you came out of Egypt. |
Exodus 34:19 | All of the male kind, that openeth the womb, shall be mine. Of all beasts, both of oxen and of sheep, it shall be mine. | All that openeth the womb [is] mine; and all the cattle that is born a male, the firstling of ox and sheep. | Every first male child is mine; the first male birth of your cattle, the first male of every ox and sheep. |
Exodus 34:20 | The firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a sheep: but if thou wilt not give a price for it, it shall be slain. The firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem: neither shalt thou appear before me empty. | But the firstling of an ass thou shalt ransom with a lamb; and if thou ransom [it] not, then shalt thou break its neck. All the first-born of thy sons thou shalt ransom; and none shall appear before me empty. | A lamb may be given in payment for the young of an ass, but if you will not make payment for it, its neck will have to be broken. For all the first of your sons you are to make payment. No one is to come before me without an offering. |
Exodus 34:21 | Six days shalt thou work, the seventh day thou shalt cease to plough, and to reap. | Six days shalt thou work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest; in ploughing time and in harvest thou shalt rest. | Six days let work be done, but on the seventh day take your rest: at ploughing time and at the grain-cutting you are to have a day for rest. |
Exodus 34:22 | Thou shalt keep the feast of weeks with the firstfruits of the corn of thy wheat harvest, and the feast when the time of the year returneth that all things are laid in. | And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the first-fruits of wheat-harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the turn of the year. | And you are to keep the feast of weeks when you get in the first-fruits of the grain, and the feast at the turn of the year when you take in the produce of your fields. |
Exodus 34:23 | Three times in a year all thy males shall appear in the sight of the Almighty Lord the God of Israel. | Thrice in the year shall all thy males appear before the Lord Jehovah, the God of Israel. | Three times in the year let all your males come before the Lord, the God of Israel. |
Exodus 34:24 | For when I shall have taken away the nations from thy face, and shall have enlarged thy borders, no man shall lie in wait against thy land when thou shalt go up, and appear in the sight of the Lord thy God thrice in a year. | For I will dispossess the nations before thee, and enlarge thy border, and no man shall desire thy land, when thou goest up to appear before the face of Jehovah thy God thrice in the year. | For I will send out the nations before you and make wide the limits of your land; and no man will make an attempt to take your land while you go up to give worship to the Lord, three times in the year. |
Exodus 34:25 | Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice upon leaven: neither shall there remain in the morning any thing of the victim of the solemnity of the Lord. | Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left over night until the morning. | No leaven is to be offered with the blood of my offering, and the offering of the Passover feast may not be kept till the morning. |
Exodus 34:26 | The first of the fruits of thy ground thou shalt offer in the house of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in the milk of his dam. | The first of the first-fruits of thy land shalt thou bring into the house of Jehovah thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in its mother's milk. | Take the first-fruits of your land as an offering to the house of the Lord your God. Let not the young goat be cooked in its mother's milk |
Exodus 34:27 | And the Lord said to Moses: Write these words by which I have made a covenant both with thee and with Israel. | And Jehovah said to Moses, Write thee these words; for after the tenor of these words have I made a covenant with thee and with Israel. | And the Lord said to Moses, Put all these words in writing; for on them is based the agreement which I will make with you. |
Exodus 34:28 | And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights: he neither ate bread nor drank water, and he wrote upon the tables the ten words of the covenant. | And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights; he ate no bread, and drank no water. And he wrote on the tables the words of the covenant, the ten words. | And for forty days and forty nights Moses was there with the Lord, and in that time he had no food or drink. And he put in writing on the stones the words of the agreement, the ten rules of the law. |
Exodus 34:29 | And when Moses came down from the mount Sinai, he held the two tables of the testimony, and he knew not that his face was horned from the conversation of the Lord. | And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai and the two tables of testimony were in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mountain that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone through his talking with him. | Now when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two stones in his hand, he was not conscious that his face was shining because of his talk with God. |
Exodus 34:30 | And Aaron and the children of Israel seeing the face of Moses horned, were afraid to come near. | And Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him. | But when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, and the shining of his face, they would not come near him for fear. |
Exodus 34:31 | And being called by him, they returned, both Aaron and the rulers of the congregation. And after that he spoke to them. | And Moses called to them; and they turned to him, Aaron and all the principal men of the assembly; and Moses talked with them. | Then Moses sent for them; and Aaron, with the chiefs of the people, came to him; and Moses had talk with them. |
Exodus 34:32 | And all the children of Israel came to him: and he gave them in commandment all that he had heard of the Lord in mount Sinai. | And afterwards, all the children of Israel came near; and he gave them in commandment all that Jehovah had spoken with him on mount Sinai. | And later, all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them all the orders which the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai. |
Exodus 34:33 | And having done speaking, he put a veil upon his face. | And Moses ended speaking with them; and he had put on his face a veil. | And at the end of his talk with them, Moses put a veil over his face. |
Exodus 34:34 | But when he went in to the Lord, and spoke with him, he took it away until he came forth, and then he spoke to the children of Israel all things that had been commanded him. | And when Moses went in before Jehovah to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out; and he came out, and spoke to the children of Israel what he was commanded. | But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to have talk with him, he took off the veil till he came out. And whenever he came out he said to the children of Israel what he had been ordered to say; |
Exodus 34:35 | And they saw that the face of Moses when he came out was horned, but he covered his face again, if at any time he spoke to them. | And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone; and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him. | And the children of Israel saw that the face of Moses was shining: so Moses put the veil over his face again till he went to the Lord. |
