Matthew 2:1When Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.Now Jesus having been born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, behold magi from the east arrived at Jerusalem, saying,Now when the birth of Jesus took place in Beth-lehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Matthew 2:2Saying, Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to adore him.Where is the king of the Jews that has been born? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to do him homage.Saying, Where is the King of the Jews whose birth has now taken place? We have seen his star in the east and have come to give him worship.
Matthew 2:3And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.But Herod the king having heard [of it], was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;And when it came to the ears of Herod the king, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Matthew 2:4And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born.and, assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.And he got together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, questioning them as to where the birth-place of the Christ would be.
Matthew 2:5But they said to him: In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet:And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea; for thus it is written through the prophet:And they said to him, In Beth-lehem of Judaea; for so it is said in the writings of the prophet,
Matthew 2:6And thou Bethlehem the land of Juda art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel.And *thou* Bethlehem, land of Juda, art in no wise the least among the governors of Juda; for out of thee shall go forth a leader who shall shepherd my people Israel.You Beth-lehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the chiefs of Judah: out of you will come a ruler, who will be the keeper of my people Israel.
Matthew 2:7Then Herod, privately calling the wise men, learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them;Then Herod, having secretly called the magi, inquired of them accurately the time of the star that was appearing;Then Herod sent for the wise men privately, and put questions to them about what time the star had been seen.
Matthew 2:8And sending them into Bethlehem, said: Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come to adore him.and having sent them to Bethlehem, said, Go, search out accurately concerning the child, and when ye shall have found [him] bring me back word, so that *I* also may come and do him homage.And he sent them to Beth-lehem and said, Go and make certain where the young child is; and when you have seen him, let me have news of it, so that I may come and give him worship.
Matthew 2:9Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was.And they having heard the king went their way; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them until it came and stood over the place where the little child was.And after hearing the king, they went on their way; and the star which they saw in the east went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the young child was.
Matthew 2:10And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.And when they saw the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.And when they saw the star they were full of joy.
Matthew 2:11And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him; and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.And having come into the house they saw the little child with Mary his mother, and falling down did him homage. And having opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.And they came into the house, and saw the young child with Mary, his mother; and falling down on their faces they gave him worship; and from their store they gave him offerings of gold, perfume, and spices.
Matthew 2:12And having received an answer in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back another way into their country.And being divinely instructed in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.And it was made clear to them by God in a dream that they were not to go back to Herod; so they went into their country by another way.
Matthew 2:13And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him.Now, they having departed, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appears in a dream to Joseph, saying, Arise, take to [thee] the little child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I shall tell thee; for Herod will seek the little child to destroy it.And when they had gone, an angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream, saying, Get up and take the young child and his mother, and go into Egypt, and do not go from there till I give you word; for Herod will be searching for the young child to put him to death.
Matthew 2:14Who arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and retired into Egypt: and he was there until the death of Herod:And, having arisen, he took to [him] the little child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt.So he took the young child and his mother by night, and went into Egypt;
Matthew 2:15That it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: Out of Egypt have I called my son.And he was there until the death of Herod, that that might be fulfilled which was spoken by [the] Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.And was there till the death of Herod; so that the word of the Lord through the prophet might come true, Out of Egypt have I sent for my son.
Matthew 2:16Then Herod perceiving that he was deluded by the wise men, was exceeding angry; and sending killed all the men children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.Then Herod, seeing that he had been mocked by the magi, was greatly enraged; and sent and slew all the boys which [were] in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time which he had accurately inquired from the magi.Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was very angry; and he sent out, and put to death all the male children in Beth-lehem and in all the parts round about it, from two years old and under, acting on the knowledge which he had got with care from the wise men.
Matthew 2:17Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremias the prophet, saying:Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremias the prophet, saying,Then the word of Jeremiah the prophet came true,
Matthew 2:18A voice in Rama was heard, lamentation and great mourning; Rachel bewailing her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.A voice has been heard in Rama, weeping, and great lamentation: Rachel weeping [for] her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.In Ramah there was a sound of weeping and great sorrow, Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be comforted for their loss.
Matthew 2:19But when Herod was dead, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph in Egypt,But Herod having died, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,But when Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord came in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
Matthew 2:20Saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel. For they are dead that sought the life of the child.Arise, take to [thee] the little child and its mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they who sought the life of the little child are dead.Saying, Get up and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: because they who were attempting to take the young child's life are dead.
Matthew 2:21Who arose, and took the child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.And he arose and took to [him] the little child and its mother, and came into the land of Israel;And he got up, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
Matthew 2:22But hearing that Archelaus reigned in Judea in the room of Herod his father, he was afraid to go thither: and being warned in sleep retired into the quarters of Galilee.but having heard that 'Archelaus reigns over Judaea, instead of Herod his father,' he was afraid to go there; and having been divinely instructed in a dream, he went away into the parts of Galilee,But when it came to his ears that Archelaus was ruling over Judaea in the place of his father Herod, he was in fear of going there; and God having given him news of the danger in a dream, he went out of the way into the country parts of Galilee.
Matthew 2:23And coming he dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was said by prophets: That he shall be called a Nazarene.and came and dwelt in a town called Nazareth; so that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, He shall be called a Nazaraean.And he came and was living in a town named Nazareth: so that the word of the prophets might come true, He will be named a Nazarene.
