Romans 6:1 | What shall we say, then? shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? | What then shall we say? Should we continue in sin that grace may abound? | What may we say, then? are we to go on in sin so that there may be more grace? |
Romans 6:2 | God forbid. For we that are dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein? | Far be the thought. We who have died to sin, how shall we still live in it? | In no way. How may we, who are dead to sin, be living in it any longer? |
Romans 6:3 | Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death? | Are you ignorant that we, as many as have been baptised unto Christ Jesus, have been baptised unto his death? | Or are you without the knowledge that all we who had baptism into Christ Jesus, had baptism into his death? |
Romans 6:4 | For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. | We have been buried therefore with him by baptism unto death, in order that, even as Christ has been raised up from among [the] dead by the glory of the Father, so *we* also should walk in newness of life. | We have been placed with him among the dead through baptism into death: so that as Christ came again from the dead by the glory of the Father, we, in the same way, might be living in new life. |
Romans 6:5 | For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. | For if we are become identified with [him] in the likeness of his death, so also we shall be of [his] resurrection; | For, if we have been made like him in his death, we will, in the same way, be like him in his coming to life again; |
Romans 6:6 | Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer. | knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be annulled, that we should no longer serve sin. | Being conscious that our old man was put to death on the cross with him, so that the body of sin might be put away, and we might no longer be servants to sin. |
Romans 6:7 | For he that is dead is justified from sin. | For he that has died is justified from sin. | Because he who is dead is free from sin. |
Romans 6:8 | Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ: | Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him, | But if we are dead with Christ, we have faith that we will be living with him; |
Romans 6:9 | Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him. | knowing that Christ having been raised up from among [the] dead dies no more: death has dominion over him no more. | Having knowledge that because Christ has come back from the dead, he will never again go down to the dead; death has no more power over him. |
Romans 6:10 | For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God: | For in that he has died, he has died to sin once for all; but in that he lives, he lives to God. | For his death was a death to sin, but his life now is a life which he is living to God. |
Romans 6:11 | So do you also reckon, that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God, in Christ Jesus our Lord. | So also *ye*, reckon yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. | Even so see yourselves as dead to sin, but living to God in Christ Jesus. |
Romans 6:12 | Let no sin therefore reign in your mortal body, so as to obey the lusts thereof. | Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body to obey its lusts. | For this cause do not let sin be ruling in your body which is under the power of death, so that you give way to its desires; |
Romans 6:13 | Neither yield ye your members as instruments of iniquity unto sin; but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of justice unto God. | Neither yield your members instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God as alive from among [the] dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God. | And do not give your bodies to sin as the instruments of wrongdoing, but give yourselves to God, as those who are living from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God. |
Romans 6:14 | For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under grace. | For sin shall not have dominion over *you*, for ye are not under law but under grace. | For sin may not have rule over you: because you are not under law, but under grace. |
Romans 6:15 | What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. | What then? should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Far be the thought. | What then? are we to go on in sin because we are not under law but under grace? Let it not be so. |
Romans 6:16 | Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are whom you obey, whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto justice. | Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves bondmen for obedience, ye are bondmen to him whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? | Are you not conscious that you are the servants of him to whom you give yourselves to do his desire? if to sin, the end being death, or if to do the desire of God, the end being righteousness. |
Romans 6:17 | But thanks be to God, that you were the servants of sin, but have obeyed from the heart, unto that form of doctrine, into which you have been delivered. | But thanks [be] to God, that ye were bondmen of sin, but have obeyed from the heart the form of teaching into which ye were instructed. | But praise be to God that though you were the servants of sin, you have now given yourselves freely to that form of teaching under which you were placed; |
Romans 6:18 | Being then freed from sin, we have been made servants of justice. | Now, having got your freedom from sin, ye have become bondmen to righteousness. | And being made free from sin you have been made the servants of righteousness. |
Romans 6:19 | I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity; so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification. | I speak humanly on account of the weakness of your flesh. For even as ye have yielded your members in bondage to uncleanness and to lawlessness unto lawlessness, so now yield your members in bondage to righteousness unto holiness. | I am using words in the way of men, because your flesh is feeble: as you gave your bodies as servants to what is unclean, and to evil to do evil, so now give them as servants to righteousness to do what is holy. |
Romans 6:20 | For when you were the servants of sin, you were free men to justice. | For when ye were bondmen of sin ye were free from righteousness. | When you were servants of sin you were free from righteousness. |
Romans 6:21 | What fruit therefore had you then in those things, of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death. | What fruit therefore had ye *then* in the things of which ye are *now* ashamed? for the end of *them* [is] death. | What fruit had you at that time in the things which are now a shame to you? for the end of such things is death. |
Romans 6:22 | But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end life everlasting. | But *now*, having got your freedom from sin, and having become bondmen to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end eternal life. | But now, being free from sin, and having been made servants to God, you have your fruit in that which is holy, and the end is eternal life. |
Romans 6:23 | For the wages of sin is death. But the grace of God, life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord. | For the wages of sin [is] death; but the act of favour of God, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. | For the reward of sin is death; but what God freely gives is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. |
