Acts 6:1And in those days, the number of the disciples increasing, there arose a murmuring of the Greeks against the Hebrews, for that their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.But in those days, the disciples multiplying in number, there arose a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews because their widows were overlooked in the daily ministration.About this time, as the number of disciples was increasing, complaints were made by the Greek-speaking Jews against the Hebrews because their widows were habitually overlooked in the daily ministration.
Acts 6:2Then the twelve calling together the multitude of the disciples, said: It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.And the twelve, having called the multitude of the disciples to [them], said, It is not right that we, leaving the word of God, should serve tables.So the Twelve called together the general body of the disciples and said, "It does not seem fitting that we Apostles should neglect the delivery of God's Message and minister at tables.
Acts 6:3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.Look out therefore, brethren, from among yourselves seven men, well reported of, full of [the] [Holy] Spirit and wisdom, whom we will establish over this business:Therefore, brethren, pick out from among yourselves seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and we will appoint them to undertake this duty.
Acts 6:4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.but *we* will give ourselves up to prayer and the ministry of the word.But, as for us, we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the delivery of the Message."
Acts 6:5And the saying was liked by all the multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith, and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch.And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and [the] Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch,The suggestion met with general approval, and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch.
Acts 6:6These they set before the apostles; and they praying, imposed hands upon them.whom they set before the apostles; and, having prayed, they laid their hands on them.These men they brought to the Apostles, and, after prayer, they laid their hands upon them.
Acts 6:7And the word of the Lord increased; and the number of the disciples was multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly: a great multitude also of the priests obeyed the faith.And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was very greatly multiplied, and a great crowd of the priests obeyed the faith.Meanwhile God's Message continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem very greatly increased, and very many priests obeyed the faith.
Acts 6:8And Stephen, full of grace and fortitude, did great wonders and signs among the people.And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought wonders and great signs among the people.And Stephen, full of grace and power, performed great marvels and signs among the people.
Acts 6:9Now there arose some of that which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of them that were of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.And there arose up certain of those of the synagogue called of freedmen, and of Cyrenians, and of Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.But some members of the so-called `Synagogue of the Freed-men,' together with some Cyrenaeans, Alexandrians, Cilicians and men from Roman Asia, were roused to encounter Stephen in debate.
Acts 6:10And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit that spoke.And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.They were quite unable, however, to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.
Acts 6:11Then they suborned men to say, they had heard him speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.Then they suborned men, saying, We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.Then they privately put forward men who declared, "We have heard him speak blasphemous things against Moses and against God."
Acts 6:12And they stirred up the people, and the ancients, and the scribes; and running together, they took him, and brought him to the council.And they roused the people, and the elders, and the scribes. And coming upon [him] they seized him and brought [him] to the council.In this way they excited the people, the Elders, and the Scribes. At length they came upon him, seized him with violence, and took him before the Sanhedrin.
Acts 6:13And they set up false witnesses, who said: This man ceaseth not to speak words against the holy place and the law.And they set false witnesses, saying, This man does not cease speaking words against the holy place and the law;Here they brought forward false witnesses who declared, "This fellow is incessantly speaking against the Holy Place and the Law.
Acts 6:14For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the traditions which Moses delivered unto us.for we have heard him saying, This Jesus the Nazaraean shall destroy this place, and change the customs which Moses taught us.For we have heard him say that Jesus, the Nazarene, will pull this place down to the ground and will change the customs which Moses handed down to us."
Acts 6:15And all that sat in the council, looking on him, saw his face as if it had been the face of an angel.And all who sat in the council, looking fixedly on him, saw his face as [the] face of an angel.At once the eyes of all who were sitting in the Sanhedrin were fastened on him, and they saw his face looking just like the face of an angel.
