Ephesians 5:1Be ye therefore followers of God, as most dear children;Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,Therefore be imitators of God, as His dear children.
Ephesians 5:2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath delivered himself for us, an oblation and a sacrifice to God for an odour of sweetness.and walk in love, even as the Christ loved us, and delivered himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.And live and act lovingly, as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up to death on our behalf as an offering and sacrifice to God, yielding a fragrant odor.
Ephesians 5:3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not so much as be named among you, as becometh saints:But fornication and all uncleanness or unbridled lust, let it not be even named among you, as it becomes saints;But fornication and every kind of impurity, or covetousness, let them not even be mentioned among you, for they ought not to be named among God's people.
Ephesians 5:4Or obscenity, or foolish talking, or scurrility, which is to no purpose; but rather giving of thanks.and filthiness and foolish talking, or jesting, which are not convenient; but rather thanksgiving.Avoid shameful and foolish talk and low jesting they are all alike discreditable and in place of these give thanks.
Ephesians 5:5For know you this and understand, that no fornicator, or unclean, or covetous person (which is a serving of idols), hath inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.For this ye are [well] informed of, knowing that no fornicator, or unclean person, or person of unbridled lust, who is an idolater, has inheritance in the kingdom of the Christ and God.For be well assured that no fornicator or immoral person and no money-grubber or in other words idol-worshipper has any share awaiting him in the Kingdom of Christ and of God.
Ephesians 5:6Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief.Let no one deceive you with vain words, for on account of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is on account of these very sins that God's anger is coming upon the disobedient.
Ephesians 5:7Be ye not therefore partakers with them.Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them;Therefore do not become sharers with them.
Ephesians 5:8For you were heretofore darkness, but now light in the Lord. Walk then as children of the light.for ye were once darkness, but now light in [the] Lord; walk as children of light,There was a time when you were nothing but darkness. Now, as Christians, you are Light itself.
Ephesians 5:9For the fruit of the light is in all goodness, and justice, and truth;(for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth,)Live and act as sons of Light for the effect of the Light is seen in every kind of goodness, uprightness and truth
Ephesians 5:10Proving what is well pleasing to God:proving what is agreeable to the Lord;and learn in your own experiences what is fully pleasing to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove [them],Have nothing to do with the barren unprofitable deeds of darkness, but, instead of that, set your faces against them;
Ephesians 5:12For the things that are done by them in secret, it is a shame even to speak of.for the things that are done by them in secret it is shameful even to say.for the things which are done by these people in secret it is disgraceful even to speak of.
Ephesians 5:13But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light; for all that is made manifest is light.But all things having their true character exposed by the light are made manifest; for that which makes everything manifest is light.But everything can be tested by the light and thus be shown in its true colors; for whatever shines of itself is light.
Ephesians 5:14Wherefore he saith: Rise thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee.Wherefore he says, Wake up, [thou] that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.For this reason it is said, "Rise, sleeper; rise from among the dead, and Christ will shed light upon you."
Ephesians 5:15See therefore, brethren, how you walk circumspectly: not as unwise,See therefore how ye walk carefully, not as unwise but as wise,Therefore be very careful how you live and act. Let it not be as unwise men, but as wise.
Ephesians 5:16But as wise: redeeming the time, because the days are evil.redeeming the time, because the days are evil.Buy up your opportunities, for these are evil times.
Ephesians 5:17Wherefore become not unwise, but understanding what is the will of God.For this reason be not foolish, but understanding what [is] the will of the Lord.On this account do not prove yourselves wanting in sense, but try to understand what the Lord's will is.
Ephesians 5:18And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury; but be ye filled with the holy Spirit,And be not drunk with wine, in which is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,Do not over-indulge in wine a thing in which excess is so easy
Ephesians 5:19Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord;speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and chanting with your heart to the Lord;but drink deeply of God's Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and offer praise in your hearts to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:20Giving thanks always for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God and the Father:giving thanks at all times for all things to him [who is] God and [the] Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,Always and for everything let your thanks to God the Father be presented in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Ephesians 5:21Being subject one to another, in the fear of Christ.submitting yourselves to one another in [the] fear of Christ.and submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:22Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord:Wives, [submit yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the Lord,Married women, submit to your own husbands as if to the Lord;
Ephesians 5:23Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body.for a husband is head of the wife, as also the Christ [is] head of the assembly. *He* [is] Saviour of the body.because a husband is the Head of his wife as Christ also is the Head of the Church, being indeed the Saviour of this His Body.
Ephesians 5:24Therefore as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things.But even as the assembly is subjected to the Christ, so also wives to their own husbands in everything.And just as the Church submits to Christ, so also married women should be entirely submissive to their husbands.
Ephesians 5:25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it:Husbands, love your own wives, even as the Christ also loved the assembly, and has delivered himself up for it,Married men, love your wives, as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up to death for her;
Ephesians 5:26That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life:in order that he might sanctify it, purifying [it] by the washing of water by [the] word,in order to make her holy, cleansing her with the baptismal water by the word,
Ephesians 5:27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish.that *he* might present the assembly to himself glorious, having no spot, or wrinkle, or any of such things; but that it might be holy and blameless.that He might present the Church to Himself a glorious bride, without spot or wrinkle or any other defect, but to be holy and unblemished.
Ephesians 5:28So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself.So ought men also to love their own wives as their own bodies: he that loves his own wife loves himself.So too married men ought to love their wives as much as they love themselves. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Ephesians 5:29For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church:For no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as also the Christ the assembly:For never yet has a man hated his own body. On the contrary he feeds and cherishes it, just as Christ feeds and cherishes the Church;
Ephesians 5:30Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.for we are members of his body; [we are of his flesh, and of his bones.]because we are, as it were, parts of His Body.
Ephesians 5:31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh.Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh."For this reason a man is to leave his father and his mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be as one."
Ephesians 5:32This is a great sacrament; but I speak in Christ and in the church.This mystery is great, but *I* speak as to Christ, and as to the assembly.That is a great truth hitherto kept secret: I mean the truth concerning Christ and the Church.
Ephesians 5:33Nevertheless let every one of you in particular love his wife as himself: and let the wife fear her husband.But *ye* also, every one of you, let each so love his own wife as himself; but as to the wife [I speak] that she may fear the husband.Yet I insist that among you also, each man is to love his own wife as much as he loves himself, and let a married woman see to it that she treats her husband with respect.
