Matthew 2:1When Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem. Now Jesus having been born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, behold magi from the east arrived at Jerusalem, saying,Now after the birth of Jesus, which took place at Bethlehem in Judaea in the reign of King Herod, excitement was produced in Jerusalem by the arrival of certain Magi from the east,
Matthew 2:2Saying, Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to adore him.Where is the king of the Jews that has been born? for we have seen his star in the east, and have come to do him homage.inquiring, "Where is the newly born king of the Jews? For we have seen his Star in the east, and have come here to do him homage."
Matthew 2:3And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.But Herod the king having heard [of it], was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;Reports of this soon reached the king, and greatly agitated not only him but all the people of Jerusalem.
Matthew 2:4And assembling together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born.and, assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.So he assembled all the High Priests and Scribes of the people, and anxiously asked them where the Christ was to be born.
Matthew 2:5But they said to him: In Bethlehem of Juda. For so it is written by the prophet:And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea; for thus it is written through the prophet:"At Bethlehem in Judaea," they replied; "for so it stands written in the words of the Prophet,
Matthew 2:6And thou Bethlehem the land of Juda art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come forth the captain that shall rule my people Israel. And *thou* Bethlehem, land of Juda, art in no wise the least among the governors of Juda; for out of thee shall go forth a leader who shall shepherd my people Israel."`And thou, Bethlehem in the land of Judah, by no means the least honorable art thou among princely places in Judah! For from thee shall come a prince one who shall be the Shepherd of My People Israel.'"
Matthew 2:7Then Herod, privately calling the wise men, learned diligently of them the time of the star which appeared to them; Then Herod, having secretly called the magi, inquired of them accurately the time of the star that was appearing;Thereupon Herod sent privately for the Magi and ascertained from them the exact time of the star's appearing.
Matthew 2:8And sending them into Bethlehem, said: Go and diligently inquire after the child, and when you have found him, bring me word again, that I also may come to adore him.and having sent them to Bethlehem, said, Go, search out accurately concerning the child, and when ye shall have found [him] bring me back word, so that *I* also may come and do him homage. He then directed them to go to Bethlehem, adding, "Go and make careful inquiry about the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and do him homage."
Matthew 2:9Who having heard the king, went their way; and behold the star which they had seen in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the child was.And they having heard the king went their way; and lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them until it came and stood over the place where the little child was. After hearing what the king said, they went to Bethlehem, while, strange to say, the star they had seen in the east led them on until it came and stood over the place where the babe was.
Matthew 2:10And seeing the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.And when they saw the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. When they saw the star, the sight filled them with intense joy.
Matthew 2:11And entering into the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down they adored him; and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having come into the house they saw the little child with Mary his mother, and falling down did him homage. And having opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. So they entered the house; and when they saw the babe with His mother Mary, they prostrated themselves and did Him homage, and opening their treasure-chests offered gifts to Him gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Matthew 2:12And having received an answer in sleep that they should not return to Herod, they went back another way into their country. And being divinely instructed in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.But being forbidden by God in a dream to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by a different route.
Matthew 2:13And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him. Now, they having departed, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appears in a dream to Joseph, saying, Arise, take to [thee] the little child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I shall tell thee; for Herod will seek the little child to destroy it.When they were gone, and angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise: take the babe and His mother and escape to Egypt, and remain there till I bring you word. For Herod is about to make search for the child in order to destroy Him."
Matthew 2:14Who arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and retired into Egypt: and he was there until the death of Herod:And, having arisen, he took to [him] the little child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt. So Joseph roused himself and took the babe and His mother by night and departed into Egypt.
Matthew 2:15That it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: Out of Egypt have I called my son.And he was there until the death of Herod, that that might be fulfilled which was spoken by [the] Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. There he remained till Herod's death, that what the Lord had said through the Prophet might be fulfilled, "Out of Egypt I called My Son."
Matthew 2:16Then Herod perceiving that he was deluded by the wise men, was exceeding angry; and sending killed all the men children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then Herod, seeing that he had been mocked by the magi, was greatly enraged; and sent and slew all the boys which [were] in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time which he had accurately inquired from the magi. Then Herod, finding that the Magi had trifled with him, was furious, and sent and massacred all the boys under two years of age, in Bethlehem and all its neighbourhood, according to the date he had so carefully ascertained from the Magi.
Matthew 2:17Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremias the prophet, saying:Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremias the prophet, saying,Then were these words, spoken by the Prophet Jeremiah, fulfilled,
Matthew 2:18A voice in Rama was heard, lamentation and great mourning; Rachel bewailing her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.A voice has been heard in Rama, weeping, and great lamentation: Rachel weeping [for] her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not."A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and bitter lamentation: It was Rachel bewailing her children, and she refused to be comforted because there were no more."
Matthew 2:19But when Herod was dead, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph in Egypt,But Herod having died, behold, an angel of [the] Lord appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,But after Herod's death an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, and said to him,
Matthew 2:20Saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel. For they are dead that sought the life of the child.Arise, take to [thee] the little child and its mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they who sought the life of the little child are dead."Rise from sleep, and take the child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child's life are dead."
Matthew 2:21Who arose, and took the child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. And he arose and took to [him] the little child and its mother, and came into the land of Israel; So he roused himself and took the child and His mother and came into the land of Israel.

Matthew 2:23And coming he dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was said by prophets: That he shall be called a Nazarene.and came and dwelt in a town called Nazareth; so that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, He shall be called a Nazaraean.and went and settled in a town called Nazareth, in order that these words spoken through the Prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene."
