Exodus 22:1If any man steal an ox or a sheep, and kill or sell it: he shall restore five oxen for one ox, and four sheep for one sheep.If a man steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it, he shall restore five oxen for the ox, and four sheep for the sheep."If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
Exodus 22:2If a thief be found breaking open a house or undermining it, and be wounded so as to die: he that slew him shall not be guilty of blood.If the thief be encountered breaking in, and be smitten so that he die, there shall be no blood-guiltiness for him.If the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no guilt of bloodshed for him.
Exodus 22:3But if he did this when the sun is risen, he hath committed murder, and he shall die. If he have not wherewith to make restitution for the theft, he shall be sold.If the sun be risen on him, there shall be blood-guiltiness for him; he should have made full restitution: if he had nothing, he would have been sold for his theft.If the sun has risen on him, there shall be guilt of bloodshed for him; he shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
Exodus 22:4If that which he stole be found with him, alive, either ox, or ass, or sheep: he shall restore double.If the stolen thing be actually found alive in his hand, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep, he shall restore double.If the stolen property is found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, donkey, or sheep, he shall pay double.
Exodus 22:5If any man hurt a field or a vineyard, and put in his beast to feed upon that which is other men's: he shall restore the best of whatsoever he hath in his own field, or in his vineyard, according to the estimation of the damage.If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and put in his cattle, and pasture in another man's field, of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard shall he make [it] good."If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten, and lets his animal loose, and it grazes in another man's field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.
Exodus 22:6If a fire breaking out light upon thorns, and catch stacks of corn, or corn standing in the fields, he that kindled the fire shall make good the loss.If fire break out, and seize the thorns, and the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field be consumed, he that kindled the fire shall fully make it good."If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
Exodus 22:7If a man deliver money, or any vessel unto his friend to keep, and they be stolen away from him that received them: if the thief be found he shall restore double:If a man deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him restore double;"If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man's house; if the thief is found, he shall pay double.
Exodus 22:8If the thief be not known, the master of the house shall be brought to the gods, and shall swear that he did not lay his hand upon his neighbour's goods,if the thief be not found, the master of the house shall be brought before the judges, [to see] if he has not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods.If the thief isn't found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to find out if he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods.
Exodus 22:9To do any fraud, either in ox, or in ass, or sheep, or raiment, or any thing that may bring damage: the cause of both parties shall come to the gods: and if they give judgment, he shall restore double to his neighbour.As to all manner of fraud, as to ox, as to ass, as to sheep, as to clothing, as to everything lost, of which [a man] saith, It is this the cause of both parties shall come before the judges: he whom the judges shall condemn shall restore double to his neighbour.For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, whereof one says, 'This is mine,' the cause of both parties shall come before God. He whom God condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.
Exodus 22:10If a man deliver ass, ox, sheep, or any beast, to his neighbour's custody, and it die, or be hurt, or be taken by enemies, and no man saw it:If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any cattle, to keep, and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, and no man see [it],"If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep, and it dies or is injured, or driven away, no man seeing it;
Exodus 22:11There shall be an oath between them, that he did not put forth his hand to his neighbour's goods: and the owner shall accept of the oath; and he shall not be compelled to make restitution.an oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it shall accept it, and he shall not make [it] good.the oath of Yahweh shall be between them both, whether he hasn't put his hand to his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.
Exodus 22:12But if it were taken away by stealth, he shall make the loss good to the owner.But if it have been stolen from him, he shall make [it] good unto its owner.But if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to the owner of it.
Exodus 22:13If it were eaten by a beast, let him bring to him that which was slain, and he shall not make restitution.If it have been torn in pieces, let him bring it [as] witness: he shall not make good what was torn.If it is torn in pieces, let him bring it for evidence. He shall not make good that which was torn.
Exodus 22:14If a man borrow of his neighbour any of these things, and it be hurt or die, the owner not being present, he shall be obliged to make restitution.And if a man borrow anything of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, its owner not being with it, he shall fully make it good;"If a man borrows anything of his neighbor's, and it is injured, or dies, the owner of it not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.
Exodus 22:15But if the owner be present, he shall not make restitution, especially if it were hired and came for the hire of his work.if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make [it] good; if it be a hired [thing], it came for its hire.If the owner of it is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a leased thing, it came for its lease.
Exodus 22:16If a man seduce a virgin not yet espoused, and lie with her: he shall endow her, and have her to wife.And if a man seduce a virgin that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall certainly endow her, to be his wife."If a man entices a virgin who isn't pledged to be married, and lies with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
Exodus 22:17If the maid's father will not give her to him, he shall give money according to the dowry, which virgins are wont to receive.If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall weigh money according to the dowry of virgins.If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
Exodus 22:18Wizards thou shalt not suffer to live.Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
Exodus 22:19Whosoever copulateth with a beast shall be put to death.Every one that lieth with a beast shall certainly be put to death."Whoever has sex with an animal shall surely be put to death.
Exodus 22:20He that sacrificeth to gods, shall be put to death, save only to the Lord.He that sacrificeth to [any] god, save to Jehovah only, shall be devoted to destruction."He who sacrifices to any god, except to Yahweh only, shall be utterly destroyed.
Exodus 22:21Thou shalt not molest a stranger, nor afflict him: for yourselves also were strangers in the land of Egypt.Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him; for ye have been strangers in the land of Egypt."You shall not wrong an alien, neither shall you oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
Exodus 22:22You shall not hurt a widow or an orphan.Ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child."You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.
Exodus 22:23If you hurt them they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry:If thou afflict him in any way, if he cry at all unto me, I will certainly hear his cry;If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry;
Exodus 22:24And my rage shall be enkindled, and I will strike you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.and my anger shall burn, and I will slay you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
Exodus 22:25If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor, that dwelleth with thee, thou shalt not be hard upon them as an extortioner, nor oppress them with usuries.If thou lend money to my people, the poor with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer: ye shall charge him no interest."If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor; neither shall you charge him interest.
Exodus 22:26If thou take of thy neighbour a garment in pledge, thou shalt give it him again before sunset.If thou at all take thy neighbour's garment in pledge, thou shalt return it to him before the sun goes down;If you take your neighbor's garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down,
Exodus 22:27For that same is the only thing wherewith he is covered, the clothing of his body, neither hath he any other to sleep in: if he cry to me, I will hear him, because I am compassionate.for that is his only covering, his garment for his skin: on what shall he lie down? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin. What would he sleep in? It will happen, when he cries to me, that I will hear, for I am gracious.
Exodus 22:28Thou shalt not speak ill of the gods, and the prince of thy people thou shalt not curse.Thou shalt not revile the judges, nor curse a prince amongst thy people."You shall not blaspheme God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
Exodus 22:29Thou shalt not delay to pay thy tithes and thy firstfruits: thou shalt give the firstborn of thy sons to me.Thou shalt not delay the fulness of thy [threshing-floor] and the outflow of thy [winepress]. The firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me."You shall not delay to offer from your harvest and from the outflow of your presses. "You shall give the firstborn of your sons to me.
Exodus 22:30Thou shalt do the same with the firstborn of thy oxen also and sheep: seven days let it be with its dam, the eighth day thou shalt give it to me.Likewise shalt thou do with thy calf, with thy sheep: seven days shall it be with its dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.You shall do likewise with your oxen and with your sheep. Seven days it shall be with its mother, then on the eighth day you shall give it me.
Exodus 22:31You shall be holy men to me: the flesh that beasts have tasted of before, you shall not eat, but shall cast it to the dogs.And ye shall be holy men unto me; and ye shall not eat flesh torn in the field: ye shall cast it to the dog."You shall be holy men to me, therefore you shall not eat any flesh that is torn by animals in the field. You shall cast it to the dogs.
