Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?Hear this, you elders, And listen, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this ever happened in your days, Or in the days of your fathers?
Joel 1:3Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.Tell your children of it, and [let] your children [tell] their children, and their children another generation:Tell your children about it, And have your children tell their children, And their children, another generation.
Joel 1:4That which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed.that which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten. What the swarming locust has left, the great locust has eaten. What the great locust has left, the grasshopper has eaten. What the grasshopper has left, the caterpillar has eaten.
Joel 1:5Awake, ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine: for it is cut off from your mouth.Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; For it is cut off from your mouth.
Joel 1:6For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a lion's whelp. For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a lioness. For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number. His teeth are the teeth of a lion, And he has the fangs of a lioness.
Joel 1:7He hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. He hath made my vine a desolation, and barked my fig-tree; he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away: its branches are made white. He has laid my vine waste, And stripped my fig tree. He has stripped its bark, and thrown it away. Its branches are made white.
Joel 1:8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.Mourn like a virgin dressed in sackcloth for the husband of her youth!
Joel 1:9Sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests, the Lord's ministers, have mourned:The oblation and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn. The meal offering and the drink offering are cut off from Yahweh's house. The priests, Yahweh's ministers, mourn.
Joel 1:10The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished. The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. The field is laid waste. The land mourns, for the grain is destroyed, The new wine has dried up, And the oil languishes.
Joel 1:11The husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat, and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished.Be ashamed, ye husbandmen; howl, ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley: because the harvest of the field hath perished.Be confounded, you farmers! Wail, you vineyard keepers; For the wheat and for the barley; For the harvest of the field has perished.
Joel 1:12The vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children of men.The vine is dried up, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm also and the apple-tree; all the trees of the field are withered, yea, joy is withered away from the children of men.The vine has dried up, and the fig tree withered; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, Even all of the trees of the field are withered; For joy has withered away from the sons of men.

For the day of Yahweh is at hand, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.
