John 6:1After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is that of Tiberias. After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee, [or] of Tiberias,After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.
John 6:2And a great multitude followed him, because they saw the miracles which he did on them that were diseased.and a great crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he wrought upon the sick.A great multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were sick.
John 6:3Jesus therefore went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there sat with his disciples:Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.
John 6:4Now the pasch, the festival day of the Jews, was near at hand.but the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.
John 6:5When Jesus therefore had lifted up his eyes, and seen that a very great multitude cometh to him, he said to Philip: Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?Jesus then, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great crowd is coming to him, says to Philip, Whence shall we buy loaves that these may eat?Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?"
John 6:6And this he said to try him; for he himself knew what he would do.But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
John 6:7Philip answered him: Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little.Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little [portion].Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little."
John 6:8One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, saith to him:One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,
John 6:9There is a boy here that hath five barley loaves, and two fishes; but what are these among so many? There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?"
John 6:10Then Jesus said: Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. The men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.[And] Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
John 6:11And Jesus took the loaves: and when he had given thanks, he distributed to them that were set down. In like manner also of the fishes, as much as they would. And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed [them] to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
John 6:12And when they were filled, he said to his disciples: Gather up the fragments that remain, lest they be lost. And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost. When they were filled, he said to his disciples, "Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost."
John 6:13They gathered up therefore, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above to them that had eaten. They gathered [them] therefore together, and filled twelve hand-baskets full of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were over and above to those that had eaten. So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:14Now those men, when they had seen what a miracle Jesus had done, said: This is of a truth the prophet, that is to come into the world. The men therefore, having seen the sign which Jesus had done, said, This is truly the prophet which is coming into the world. When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, "This is truly the prophet who comes into the world."
John 6:15Jesus therefore, when he knew that they would come to take him by force, and make him king, fled again into the mountain himself alone.Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make [him] king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain by himself.
John 6:16And when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea.But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
John 6:17And when they had gone up into a ship, they went over the sea to Capharnaum; and it was now dark, and Jesus was not come unto them.and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them, and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
John 6:18And the sea arose, by reason of a great wind that blew.and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing. The sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.
John 6:19When they had rowed therefore about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking upon the sea, and drawing nigh to the ship, and they were afraid.Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened. When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.
John 6:20But he saith to them: It is I; be not afraid. But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid. But he said to them, "It is I. Don't be afraid."
John 6:21They were willing therefore to take him into the ship; and presently the ship was at the land to which they were going. They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went. They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
John 6:22The next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea, saw that there was no other ship there but one, and that Jesus had not entered into the ship with his disciples, but that his disciples were gone away alone. On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but [that] his disciples had gone away alone; On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus hadn't entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples went away alone.
John 6:23But other ships came in from Tiberias; nigh unto the place where they had eaten the bread, the Lord giving thanks.(but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks;)However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
John 6:24When therefore the multitude saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they took shipping, and came to Capharnaum, seeking for Jesus.when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, *they* got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn't there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
John 6:25And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him: Rabbi, when camest thou hither? And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here? When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"
John 6:26Jesus answered them, and said: Amen, amen I say to you, you seek me, not because you have seen miracles, but because you did eat of the loaves, and were filled.Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.
John 6:27Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that which endureth unto life everlasting, which the Son of man will give you. For him hath God, the Father, sealed.Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even] God.Don't work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For the Father, even God, has sealed him."
John 6:28They said therefore unto him: What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?They said therefore to him, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?"
John 6:29Jesus answered, and said to them: This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he hath sent.Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom *he* has sent.Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
John 6:30They said therefore to him: What sign therefore dost thou shew, that we may see, and may believe thee? What dost thou work? They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work? They said therefore to him, "What then do you do for a sign, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you do?
John 6:31Our fathers did eat manna in the desert, as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, 'He gave them bread out of the sky to eat.'"
John 6:32Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you; Moses gave you not bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, [It is] not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, it wasn't Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
John 6:33For the bread of God is that which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world. For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world."
John 6:34They said therefore unto him: Lord, give us always this bread. They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread. They said therefore to him, "Lord, always give us this bread."
John 6:35And Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger: and he that believeth in me shall never thirst.[And] Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.Jesus said to them. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:36But I said unto you, that you also have seen me, and you believe not.But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe. But I told you that you have seen me, and yet don't believe.
John 6:37All that the Father giveth to me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will not cast out.All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.All that which the Father gives me will come to me. Him who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
John 6:38Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do *my* will, but the will of him that has sent me.For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
John 6:39Now this is the will of the Father who sent me: that of all that he hath given me, I should lose nothing; but should raise it up again in the last day.And this is the will of him that has sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up in the last day. This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all who he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise them up at the last day.
John 6:40And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son, and believes on him, should have life eternal; and I will raise him up at the last day. This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:41The Jews therefore murmured at him, because he had said: I am the living bread which came down from heaven. The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which has come down out of heaven. The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down out of heaven."
John 6:42And they said: Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then saith he, I came down from heaven? And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then does *he* say, I am come down out of heaven? They said, "Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, 'I have come down out of heaven?'"
John 6:43Jesus therefore answered, and said to them: Murmur not among yourselves.Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves. Therefore Jesus answered them, "Don't murmur among yourselves.
John 6:44No man can come to me, except the Father, who hath sent me, draw him; and I will raise him up in the last day.No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day.No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
John 6:45It is written in the prophets: And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard of the Father, and hath learned, cometh to me.It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father [himself], and has learned [of him], comes to me;It is written in the prophets, 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who hears from the Father, and has learned, comes to me.
John 6:46Not that any man hath seen the Father; but he who is of God, he hath seen the Father.not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father. Not that any man has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.
John 6:47Amen, amen I say unto you: He that believeth in me, hath everlasting life.Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes [on me] has life eternal. Most assuredly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.
John 6:48I am the bread of life.I am the bread of life.I am the bread of life.
John 6:49Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
John 6:50This is the bread which cometh down from heaven; that if any man eat of it, he may not die. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die.
John 6:51I am the living bread which came down from heaven.I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world."
John 6:52If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
John 6:53The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat?Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves.Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don't have life in yourselves.
John 6:54Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:55He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
John 6:56For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
John 6:57He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him.As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, *he* also who eats me shall live also on account of me.As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.
John 6:58As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me.This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever. This is the bread which came down out of heaven not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever."
John 6:59This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever. These things he said in [the] synagogue, teaching in Capernaum. These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
John 6:60These things he said, teaching in the synagogue, in Capharnaum. Many therefore of his disciples having heard [it] said, This word is hard; who can hear it?Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying! Who can hear it?"
John 6:61Many therefore of his disciples, hearing it, said: This saying is hard, and who can hear it?But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?
John 6:62But Jesus, knowing in himself, that his disciples murmured at this, said to them: Doth this scandalize you?If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before? What if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
John 6:63If then you shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
John 6:64It is the spirit that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I have spoken to you, are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.But there are some of you who don't believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn't believe, and who it was who would betray him.
John 6:65But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning, who they were that did not believe, and who he was, that would betray him.And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father. He said, "For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, except it be given to him by my Father."
John 6:66And he said: Therefore did I say to you, that no man can come to me, unless it be given him by my Father. From that [time] many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.At this, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
John 6:67After this many of his disciples went back; and walked no more with him.Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away?Jesus said therefore to the twelve, "You don't also want to go away, do you?"
John 6:68Then Jesus said to the twelve: Will you also go away?Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal;Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
John 6:69And Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
John 6:70And we have believed and have known, that thou art the Christ, the Son of God.Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you the twelve? and of you one is a devil.Jesus answered them, "Didn't I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"
John 6:71Jesus answered them: Have not I chosen you twelve; and one of you is a devil? Now he spoke of Judas [the son] of Simon, Iscariote, for he [it was who] should deliver him up, being one of the twelve. Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
John 6:72Now he meant Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon: for this same was about to betray him, whereas he was one of the twelve.
