Matthew 22:2The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king, who made a marriage for his son.The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,
Matthew 22:3And he sent his servants, to call them that were invited to the marriage; and they would not come.and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.and sent forth his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.
Matthew 22:4Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my beeves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage.Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.Again he sent forth other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Behold, I have made ready my dinner. My oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast."'
Matthew 22:5But they neglected, and went their own ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise.But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,
Matthew 22:6And the rest laid hands on his servants, and having treated them contumeliously, put them to death.And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew [them].and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.
Matthew 22:7But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city.And [when] the king [heard of it he] was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.But the king was angry, and he sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Matthew 22:8Then he saith to his servants: The marriage indeed is ready; but they that were invited were not worthy.Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy.
Matthew 22:9Go ye therefore into the highways; and as many as you shall find, call to the marriage.go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.'
Matthew 22:10And his servants going forth into the ways, gathered together all that they found, both bad and good: and the marriage was filled with guests.And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. Matthew 22:11And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment.And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn't have on wedding-clothing,
Matthew 22:12And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? But he was silent.And he says to him, [My] friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding-clothing?' He was speechless.
Matthew 22:13Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.'
Matthew 22:14For many are called, but few are chosen.For many are called ones, but few chosen ones.For many are called, but few chosen."
Matthew 22:15Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.Then went the Pharisees and held a council how they might ensnare him in speaking.Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.
Matthew 22:16And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou dost not regard the person of men.And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men's person;They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter who you teach, for you aren't partial to anyone.
Matthew 22:17Tell us therefore what dost thou think, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
Matthew 22:18But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites?But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites?
Matthew 22:19Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.Show me the tax money." They brought to him a denarius.
Matthew 22:20And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this?And he says to them, Whose [is] this image and superscription?He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"
Matthew 22:21They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.They say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.They said to him, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
Matthew 22:22And hearing this they wondered, and leaving him, went their ways.And when they heard [him], they wondered, and left him, and went away.When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.
Matthew 22:23That day there came to him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and asked him,On that day came to him Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they demanded of him,On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,
Matthew 22:24Saying: Master, Moses said: If a man die having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up issue to his brother.saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and raise up seed for his brother.'
Matthew 22:25Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first having married a wife, died; and not having issue, left his wife to his brother.Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother.
Matthew 22:26In like manner the second, and the third, and so on to the seventh.In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.In like manner the second also, and the third, to the seventh.
Matthew 22:27And last of all the woman died also.And last of all the woman also died.After them all, the woman died.
Matthew 22:28At the resurrection therefore whose wife of the seven shall she be? for they all had her.In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her."
Matthew 22:29And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.But Jesus answered them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matthew 22:30For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married; but shall be as the angels of God in heaven.For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God's angels in heaven.
Matthew 22:31And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken by God, saying to you:But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven't you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
Matthew 22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.*I* am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of [the] dead, but of [the] living.'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
Matthew 22:33And the multitudes hearing it, were in admiration at his doctrine.And when the crowds heard [it] they were astonished at his doctrine.When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
Matthew 22:34But the Pharisees hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, came together:But the Pharisees, having heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, were gathered together.But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.
Matthew 22:35And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:And one of them, a lawyer, demanded, tempting him, and saying,One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.
Matthew 22:36Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"
Matthew 22:37Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.And he said to him, Thou shalt love [the] Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy understanding.Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
Matthew 22:38This is the greatest and the first commandment.This is [the] great and first commandment.This is the first and great commandment.
Matthew 22:39And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.And [the] second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.A second likewise is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
Matthew 22:40On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.On these two commandments the whole law and the prophets hang.The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
Matthew 22:41And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus asked them,And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus demanded of them,Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,
Matthew 22:42Saying: What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him: David's.saying, What think ye concerning the Christ? whose son is he? They say to him, David's.saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "Of David."
Matthew 22:43He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying:He says to them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying,He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,
Matthew 22:44The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand until I put thine enemies under thy feet?'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?'
Matthew 22:45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?If therefore David call him Lord, how is he his son?"If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
Matthew 22:46And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.And no one was able to answer him a word, nor did any one dare from that day to question him any more.No one was able to answer him a word, neither dared any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
