Romans 6:1 | What shall we say, then? shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? | What then shall we say? Should we continue in sin that grace may abound? | What will we say then? Will we continue in sin, that grace may abound? |
Romans 6:2 | God forbid. For we that are dead to sin, how shall we live any longer therein? | Far be the thought. We who have died to sin, how shall we still live in it? | Certainly not! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer? |
Romans 6:3 | Know you not that all we, who are baptized in Christ Jesus, are baptized in his death? | Are you ignorant that we, as many as have been baptised unto Christ Jesus, have been baptised unto his death? | Or don't you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? |
Romans 6:4 | For we are buried together with him by baptism into death; that as Christ is risen from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in newness of life. | We have been buried therefore with him by baptism unto death, in order that, even as Christ has been raised up from among [the] dead by the glory of the Father, so *we* also should walk in newness of life. | We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. |
Romans 6:5 | For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. | For if we are become identified with [him] in the likeness of his death, so also we shall be of [his] resurrection; | For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection; |
Romans 6:6 | Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, to the end that we may serve sin no longer. | knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be annulled, that we should no longer serve sin. | knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin. |
Romans 6:7 | For he that is dead is justified from sin. | For he that has died is justified from sin. | For he who has died has been freed from sin. |
Romans 6:8 | Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall live also together with Christ: | Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him, | But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him; |
Romans 6:9 | Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him. | knowing that Christ having been raised up from among [the] dead dies no more: death has dominion over him no more. | knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no more has dominion over him! |
Romans 6:10 | For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God: | For in that he has died, he has died to sin once for all; but in that he lives, he lives to God. | For the death that he died, he died to sin once; but the life that he lives, he lives to God. |
Romans 6:11 | So do you also reckon, that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God, in Christ Jesus our Lord. | So also *ye*, reckon yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. | Thus also consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
Romans 6:12 | Let no sin therefore reign in your mortal body, so as to obey the lusts thereof. | Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body to obey its lusts. | Therefore don't let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. |
Romans 6:13 | Neither yield ye your members as instruments of iniquity unto sin; but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of justice unto God. | Neither yield your members instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God as alive from among [the] dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God. | Neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. |
Romans 6:14 | For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under grace. | For sin shall not have dominion over *you*, for ye are not under law but under grace. | For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace. |
Romans 6:15 | What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. | What then? should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Far be the thought. | What then? Will we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not! |
Romans 6:16 | Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are whom you obey, whether it be of sin unto death, or of obedience unto justice. | Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves bondmen for obedience, ye are bondmen to him whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? | Don't you know that to whom you present yourselves as servants to obedience, his servants you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness? |
Romans 6:17 | But thanks be to God, that you were the servants of sin, but have obeyed from the heart, unto that form of doctrine, into which you have been delivered. | But thanks [be] to God, that ye were bondmen of sin, but have obeyed from the heart the form of teaching into which ye were instructed. | But thanks be to God, that, whereas you were servants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto you were delivered. |
Romans 6:18 | Being then freed from sin, we have been made servants of justice. | Now, having got your freedom from sin, ye have become bondmen to righteousness. | Being made free from sin, you became servants of righteousness. |
Romans 6:19 | I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity; so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification. | I speak humanly on account of the weakness of your flesh. For even as ye have yielded your members in bondage to uncleanness and to lawlessness unto lawlessness, so now yield your members in bondage to righteousness unto holiness. | I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh, for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification. |
Romans 6:20 | For when you were the servants of sin, you were free men to justice. | For when ye were bondmen of sin ye were free from righteousness. | For when you were servants of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. |
Romans 6:21 | What fruit therefore had you then in those things, of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death. | What fruit therefore had ye *then* in the things of which ye are *now* ashamed? for the end of *them* [is] death. | What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. |
Romans 6:22 | But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end life everlasting. | But *now*, having got your freedom from sin, and having become bondmen to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end eternal life. | But now, being made free from sin, and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification, and the result of eternal life. |
Romans 6:23 | For the wages of sin is death. But the grace of God, life everlasting, in Christ Jesus our Lord. | For the wages of sin [is] death; but the act of favour of God, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. | For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
