Luke 20:1And it came to pass, that on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, with the ancients, met together,And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders, On one of those days while He was teaching the people in the Temple and proclaiming the Good News, the High Priests came upon Him, and the Scribes,
Luke 20:2And spoke to him, saying: Tell us, by what authority dost thou these things? or, Who is he that hath given thee this authority? And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? together with the Elders, and they asked Him, "Tell us, By what authority are you doing these things? And who is it that gave you this authority?"
Luke 20:3And Jesus answering, said to them: I will also ask you one thing. Answer me:And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me: "I also will put a question to you, "He said;
Luke 20:4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? "was John's baptism of Heavenly or of human origin?"
Luke 20:5But they thought within themselves, saying: If we shall say, From heaven: he will say: Why then did you not believe him?And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not? So they debated the matter with one another. "If we say `Heavenly,'" they argued, "he will say, `Why did you not believe him?'
Luke 20:6But if we say, Of men, the whole people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet. And if we say, `human,' the people will all stone us; for they are thoroughly convinced that John was a Prophet."
Luke 20:7And they answered, that they knew not whence it was.And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. And they answered that they did not know the origin of it.
Luke 20:8And Jesus said to them: Neither do I tell thee by what authority I do these things. And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. "Nor will I tell you," said Jesus, "by what authority I do these things."
Luke 20:9And he began to speak to the people this parable: A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen: and he was abroad for a long time. Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time. Then He proceeded to speak a parable to the people. "There was a man," He said, "who planted a vineyard, let it out to vine-dressers, and went abroad for a considerable time.
Luke 20:10And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard. Who, beating him, sent him away empty. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. At vintage-time he sent a servant to the vine-dressers, for them to give him a share of the crop; but the vine-dressers beat him cruelly and sent him away empty-handed.
Luke 20:11And again he sent another servant. But they beat him also, and treating him reproachfully, sent him away empty. And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. Then he sent a second servant; and him too they beat and ill treated and sent away empty-handed.
Luke 20:12And again he sent the third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. Then again he sent a third; and this one also they wounded and drove away.
Luke 20:13Then the lord of the vineyard said: What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be, when they see him, they will reverence him. Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. Then the owner of the vineyard said, "`What am I to do? I will send my son my dearly-loved son: they will probably respect him.'
Luke 20:14Whom when the husbandmen saw, they thought within themselves, saying: This is the heir, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. "But when the vine-dressers saw him, they discussed the matter with one another, and said, "`This is the heir: let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
Luke 20:15So casting him out of the vineyard, they killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? "So they turned him out of the vineyard and murdered him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
Luke 20:16He will come, and will destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. Which they hearing, said to him: God forbid. He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. He will come and put these vine-dressers to death, and give the vineyard to others." "God forbid!" exclaimed the hearers.
Luke 20:17But he looking on them, said: What is this then that is written, The stone, which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? He looked at them and said, "What then does that mean which is written, "`The Stone which the builders rejected has been made the cornerstone'?
Luke 20:18Whosoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be bruised: and upon whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. Every one who falls on that stone will be severely hurt, but on whomsoever it falls, he will be utterly crushed."
Luke 20:19And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him the same hour: but they feared the people, for they knew that he spoke this parable to them. And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. At this the Scribes and the High Priests wanted to lay hands on Him, then and there; only they were afraid of the people. For they saw that in this parable He had referred to them.
Luke 20:20And being upon the watch, they sent spies, who should feign themselves just, that they might take hold of him in his words, that they might deliver him up to the authority and power of the governor. And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. So, after impatiently watching their opportunity, they sent spies who were to act the part of good and honest men, that they might fasten on some expression of His, so as to hand Him over to the ruling power and the Governor's authority.
Luke 20:21And they asked him, saying: Master, we know that thou speakest and teachest rightly: and thou dost not respect any person, but teachest the way of God in truth. And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: So they put a question to Him. "Rabbi," they said, "we know that you say and teach what is right and that you make no distinctions between one man and another, but teach God's way truly.

Luke 20:25And he said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's: and to God the things that are God's.And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. "Pay therefore," He replied, "what is Caesar's to Caesar and what is God's to God."
Luke 20:26And they could not reprehend his word before the people: and wondering at his answer, they held their peace. And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace. "Rabbi, Moses made it a law for us that if a man's brother should die, leaving a wife but no children, the man shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.
Luke 20:29There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. Now there were seven brothers. The first of them took a wife and died childless.

Luke 20:36Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. For indeed they cannot die again; they are like angels, and are sons of God through being sons of the Resurrection.
Luke 20:37Now that the dead rise again, Moses also shewed, at the bush, when he called the Lord, The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. But that the dead rise to life even Moses clearly implies in the passage about the Bush, where he calls the Lord `The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'
Luke 20:38For he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. He is not a God of dead, but of living men, for to Him are all living."
