Luke 7:1And when he had finished all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capharnaum.Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. After He had finished teaching all these things in the hearing of the people, He went into Capernaum.
Luke 7:2And the servant of a certain centurion, who was dear to him, being sick, was ready to die.And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. Here the servant of a certain Captain, a man dear to his master, was ill and at the point of death;
Luke 7:3And when he had heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the ancients of the Jews, desiring him to come and heal his servant.And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. and the Captain, hearing about Jesus, sent to Him some of the Jewish Elders, begging Him to come and restore his servant to health.
Luke 7:4And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying to him: He is worthy that thou shouldest do this for him.And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: And they, when they came to Jesus, earnestly entreated Him, pleading, "He deserves to have this favour granted him,
Luke 7:5For he loveth our nation; and he hath built us a synagogue.For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. for he loves our nation, and at his own expense he built our synagogue for us."
Luke 7:6And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent his friends to him, saying: Lord, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof.Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: Then Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the Captain sent friends to Him with the message: "Sir, do not trouble to come. I am not worthy of having you come under my roof;
Luke 7:7For which cause neither did I think myself worthy to come to thee; but say the word, and my servant shall be healed.Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. and therefore I did not deem myself worthy to come to you. Only speak the word, and let my young man be cured.
Luke 7:8For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers: and I say to one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doth it.For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. For I too am a man obedient to authority, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one, `Go,' and he goes; to another, `Come,' and he comes; and to my slave, `Do this or that,' and he does it."
Luke 7:9Which Jesus hearing, marvelled: and turning about to the multitude that followed him, he said: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith, not even in Israel.When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. Jesus listened to the Captain's message and was astonished at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, "I tell you that not even in Israel have I found faith like that."
Luke 7:10And they who were sent, being returned to the house, found the servant whole who had been sick.And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick. And the friends who had been sent, on returning to the house, found the servant in perfect health.
Luke 7:11And it came to pass afterwards, that he went into a city that is called Naim; and there went with him his disciples, and a great multitude.And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. Shortly afterwards He went to a town called Nain, attended by His disciples and a great crowd of people.
Luke 7:12And when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold a dead man was carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow: and a great multitude of the city was with her.Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And just as He reached the gate of the town, they happened to be bringing out for burial a dead man who was his mother's only son; and she was a widow; and a great number of the townspeople were with her.
Luke 7:13Whom when the Lord had seen, being moved with mercy towards her, he said to her: Weep not.And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. The Lord saw her, was moved with pity for her, and said to her, "Do not weep."
Luke 7:14And he came near and touched the bier. And they that carried it, stood still. And he said: Young man, I say to thee, arise.And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. Then He went close and touched the bier, and the bearers halted. "Young man," He said, "I command you, wake!"
Luke 7:15And he that was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. The dead man sat up and began to speak; and He restored him to his mother.
Luke 7:16And there came a fear on them all: and they glorified God, saying: A great prophet is risen up among us: and, God hath visited his people.And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. All were awe-struck, and they gave glory to God some saying, "A Prophet, a great Prophet, has risen up among us." Others said, "God has not forgotten His People."
Luke 7:17And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the country round about.And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about. And the report of what Jesus had done spread through the whole of Judaea and in all the surrounding districts.
Luke 7:18And John's disciples told him of all these things.And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things. John's disciples brought him an account of all these things;
Luke 7:19And John called to him two of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, saying: Art thou he that art to come; or look we for another?And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? so John called two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord. "Are you the Coming One?" he asked, "or is there another that we are to expect?"
Luke 7:20And when the men were come unto him, they said: John the Baptist hath sent us to thee, saying: Art thou he that art to come; or look we for another?When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? The men came to Jesus and said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you with this question: `Are you the Coming One, or is there another that we are to expect?'"
Luke 7:21(And in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases, and hurts, and evil spirits: and to many that were blind he gave sight.)And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. He immediately cured many of diseases, severe pain, and evil spirits, and to many who were blind He gave the gift of sight.
Luke 7:22And answering, he said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, to the poor the gospel is preached:Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. Then He answered the messengers, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard. Blind men receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are purified, deaf persons hear, the dead are raised to life, the poor have the Good News proclaimed to them.
Luke 7:23And blessed is he whosoever shall not be scandalized in me.And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. And blessed is every one who does not stumble and fall because of my claims."
Luke 7:24And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak to the multitudes concerning John. What went ye out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? When John's messengers were gone, He proceeded to say to the multitude concerning John, "What did you go out into the Desert to gaze at? A reed waving in the wind?
Luke 7:25But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are in costly apparel and live delicately, are in the houses of kings.But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts. But what did you go out to see? A man wearing luxurious clothes? People who are gorgeously dressed and live in luxury are found in palaces.
Luke 7:26But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet.But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. But what did you go out to see? A Prophet? Aye, I tell you, and far more than a Prophet.
Luke 7:27This is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. John is the man about whom it is written, `See, I am sending My messenger before thy face, and he shall make ready thy way before thee.'
Luke 7:28For I say to you: Amongst those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet that John the Baptist. But he that is the lesser in the kingdom of God, is greater than he.For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. "I tell you that among all of women born there is not one greater than John. Yet one who is of lower rank in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.
Luke 7:29And all the people hearing, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with John's baptism.And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. And all the people, including the tax-gatherers, when they listened to him upheld the righteousness of God, by being baptized with John's baptism.
Luke 7:30But the Pharisees and the lawyers despised the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him.But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. But the Pharisees and expounders of the Law have frustrated God's purpose as to their own lives, by refusing to be baptized.
Luke 7:31And the Lord said: Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? "To what then shall I compare the men of the present generation, and what do they resemble?
Luke 7:32They are like to children sitting in the marketplace, and speaking one to another, and saying: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have mourned, and you have not wept.They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. They are like children sitting in the public square and calling out to one another, `We have played the flute to you, and you have not danced: we have sung dirges, and you have not shown sorrow.'
Luke 7:33For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say: He hath a devil.For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, `He has a demon!'
Luke 7:34The Son of man is come eating and drinking: and you say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a drinker of wine, a friend of publicans and sinners.The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, `Look, there is a man who is overfond of eating and drinking he is a friend of tax-gatherers and notorious sinners!'
Luke 7:35And wisdom is justified by all her children.But wisdom is justified of all her children. But wisdom is justified by all who are truly wise."
Luke 7:36And one of the Pharisees desired him to eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and sat down to meat.And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. Now one of the Pharisees repeatedly invited Him to a meal at his house; so He entered the house and reclined at the table.
Luke 7:37And behold a woman that was in the city, a sinner, when she knew that he sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment;And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And there was a woman in the town who was a notorious sinner. Having learnt that Jesus was at table in the Pharisee's house she brought a flask of perfume,
Luke 7:38And standing behind at his feet, she began to wash his feet, with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. and, standing behind close to His feet, weeping, began to wet His feet with her tears; and with her hair she wiped the tears away again, while she lovingly kissed His feet and poured the perfume over them.
Luke 7:39And the Pharisee, who had invited him, seeing it, spoke within himself, saying: This man, if he were a prophet, would know surely who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner.Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. Noticing this, the Pharisee, His host, said to himself, "This man, if he were really a Prophet, would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching him and would know that she is an immoral woman."
Luke 7:40And Jesus answering, said to him: Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. But he said: Master, say it.And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. In answer to his thoughts Jesus said to him, "Simon, I have a word to say to you." "Rabbi, say on," he replied.
Luke 7:41A certain creditor had two debtors, the one who owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. "There were once two men in debt to one money-lender," said Jesus; "one owed him five hundred shillings and the other fifty.
Luke 7:42And whereas they had not wherewith to pay, he forgave them both. Which therefore of the two loveth him most?And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? But neither of them could pay anything; so he freely forgave them both. Tell me, then, which of them will love him most?"
Luke 7:43Simon answering, said: I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. And he said to him: Thou hast judged rightly.Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. "I suppose," replied Simon, "the one to whom he forgave most." "You have judged rightly," Jesus rejoined.
Luke 7:44And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon: Dost thou see this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet; but she with tears hath washed my feet, and with her hairs hath wiped them.And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Then turning towards the woman He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house: you gave me no water for my feet; but she has made my feet wet with her tears, and then wiped the tears away with her hair.
Luke 7:45Thou gavest me no kiss; but she, since she came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet.Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. No kiss did you give me; but she from the moment I came in has not left off tenderly kissing my feet.
Luke 7:46My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she with ointment hath anointed my feet.My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. No oil did you pour even on my head; but she has poured perfume upon my feet.
Luke 7:47Wherefore I say to thee: Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much. But to whom less is forgiven, he loveth less.Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. This is the reason why I tell you that her sins, her many sins, are forgiven because she has loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."
Luke 7:48And he said to her: Thy sins are forgiven thee.And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
Luke 7:49And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves: Who is this that forgiveth sins also?And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? Then the other guests began to say to themselves, "Who can this man be who even forgives sins?"
Luke 7:50And he said to the woman: Thy faith hath made thee safe, go in peace.And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. But He said to the woman, "Your faith has cured you: go, and be at peace."
