John 4:1When Jesus therefore understood that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus maketh more disciples, and baptizeth more than John,When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus makes and baptises more disciples than John
John 4:2(Though Jesus himself did not baptize, but his disciples,)(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)(however, Jesus himself did not baptise, but his disciples),
John 4:3He left Judea, and went again into Galilee.He left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.he left Judaea and went away again unto Galilee.
John 4:4And he was of necessity to pass through Samaria.And he must needs go through Samaria.And he must needs pass through Samaria.
John 4:5He cometh therefore to a city of Samaria, which is called Sichar, near the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.Then he cometh to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground, that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.He comes therefore to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near to the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
John 4:6Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well. It was about the sixth hour.Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.Now a fountain of Jacob's was there; Jesus therefore, being wearied with the way he had come, sat just as he was at the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
John 4:7There cometh a woman of Samaria, to draw water. Jesus saith to her: Give me to drink.There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith to her, Give me to drink.A woman comes out of Samaria to draw water. Jesus says to her, Give me to drink
John 4:8For his disciples were gone into the city to buy meats.(For his disciples had gone to the city to buy provisions.)(for his disciples had gone away into the city that they might buy provisions).
John 4:9Then that Samaritan woman saith to him: How dost thou, being a Jew, ask of me to drink, who am a Samaritan woman? For the Jews do not communicate with the Samaritans.Then saith the woman of Samaria to him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.The Samaritan woman therefore says to him, How dost thou, being a Jew, ask to drink of me who am a Samaritan woman? for Jews have no intercourse with Samaritans.
John 4:10Jesus answered, and said to her: If thou didst know the gift of God, and who he is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked him, and he would have given thee living water.Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that says to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
John 4:11The woman saith to him: Sir, thou hast nothing wherein to draw, and the well is deep; from whence then hast thou living water?The woman saith to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?The woman says to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou the living water?
John 4:12Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his children, and his cattle?Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?
John 4:13Jesus answered, and said to her: Whosoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again; but he that shall drink of the water that I will give him, shall not thirst for ever:Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again:Jesus answered and said to her, Every one who drinks of this water shall thirst again;
John 4:14But the water that I will give him, shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into life everlasting.But whoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for ever, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.
John 4:15The woman saith to him: Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to draw.The woman saith to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, neither come hither to draw.The woman says to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst nor come here to draw.
John 4:16Jesus saith to her: Go, call thy husband, and come hither. 17 The woman answered, and said: I have no husband. Jesus said to her: Thou hast said well, I have no husband:Jesus saith to her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.Jesus says to her, Go, call thy husband, and come here.
John 4:18For thou hast had five husbands: and he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband. This thou hast said truly.The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:The woman answered and said, I have not a husband. Jesus says to her, Thou hast well said, I have not a husband;
John 4:19The woman saith to him: Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband: in that thou hast spoken truth.for thou hast had five husbands, and he whom now thou hast is not thy husband: this thou hast spoken truly.
John 4:20Our fathers adored on this mountain, and you say, that at Jerusalem is the place where men must adore.The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.The woman says to him, Sir, I see that thou art a prophet.
John 4:21Jesus saith to her: Woman, believe me, that the hour cometh, when you shall neither on this mountain, not in Jerusalem, adore the Father.Our fathers worshiped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.
John 4:22You adore that which you know not: we adore that which we know; for salvation is of the Jews.Jesus saith to her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, [the] hour is coming when ye shall neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem worship the Father.
John 4:23But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true adorers shall adore the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeketh such to adore him.Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship, for salvation is from the Jews.Ye worship ye know not what; we worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews.
John 4:24God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth.But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.But [the] hour is coming and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for also the Father seeks such as his worshippers.
John 4:25The woman saith to him: I know that the Messias cometh (who is called Christ); therefore, when he is come, he will tell us all things.God is a Spirit: and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.God [is] a spirit; and they who worship him must worship [him] in spirit and truth.
John 4:26Jesus saith to her: I am he, who am speaking with thee.The woman saith to him, I know that Messiah cometh, who is called Christ; when he is come, he will tell us all things.The woman says to him, I know that Messias is coming, who is called Christ; when *he* comes he will tell us all things.
John 4:27And immediately his disciples came; and they wondered that he talked with the woman. Yet no man said: What seekest thou? or, why talkest thou with her?Jesus saith to her, I that speak to thee am he.Jesus says to her, I who speak to thee am [he].
John 4:28The woman therefore left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men there:And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?And upon this came his disciples, and wondered that he spoke with a woman; yet no one said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?
John 4:29Come, and see a man who has told me all things whatsoever I have done. Is not he the Christ?The woman then left her waterpot, and went into the city, and saith to the men,The woman then left her waterpot and went away into the city, and says to the men,
John 4:30They went therefore out of the city, and came unto him.Come, see a man who hath told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?Come, see a man who told me all things I had ever done: is not he the Christ?
John 4:31In the mean time the disciples prayed him, saying: Rabbi, eat.Then they went out of the city, and came to him.They went out of the city and came to him.
John 4:32But he said to them: I have meat to eat, which you know not.In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.But meanwhile the disciples asked him saying, Rabbi, eat.
John 4:33The disciples therefore said one to another: Hath any man brought him to eat?But he said to them, I have food to eat that ye know not of.But he said to them, I have food to eat which ye do not know.
John 4:34Jesus saith to them: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect his work.Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?The disciples therefore said to one another, Has any one brought him [anything] to eat?
John 4:35Do you not say, There are yet four months, and then the harvest cometh? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and see the countries; for they are white already to harvest.Jesus saith to them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.
John 4:36And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life everlasting: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, may rejoice together.Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.Do not ye say, that there are yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, for they are already white to harvest.
John 4:37For in this is the saying true: That it is one man that soweth, and it is another that reapeth.And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit to life eternal: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, may rejoice together.He that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.
John 4:38I have sent you to reap that in which you did not labour: others have laboured, and you have entered into their labours.And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.For in this is [verified] the true saying, It is one who sows and another who reaps.
John 4:39Now of that city many of the Samaritans believed in him, for the word of the woman giving testimony: He told me all things whatsoever I have done.I sent you to reap that on which ye bestowed no labor: other men labored, and ye have entered into their labors.I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured; others have laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.
John 4:40So when the Samaritans were come to him, they desired that he would tarry there. And he abode there two days.And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, who testified, He told me all that ever I did.But many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman who bore witness, He told me all things that I had ever done.
John 4:41And many more believed in him because of his own word.So when the Samaritans had come to him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.When therefore the Samaritans came to him they asked him to abide with them, and he abode there two days.
John 4:42And they said to the woman: We now believe, not for thy saying: for we ourselves have heard him, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.And many more believed, because of his own word;And more a great deal believed on account of his word;
John 4:43Now after two days, he departed thence, and went into Galilee.And said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.and they said to the woman, [It is] no longer on account of thy saying that we believe, for we have heard him ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.
John 4:44For Jesus himself gave testimony that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.But after the two days he went forth thence and went away into Galilee,
John 4:45And when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things he had done at Jerusalem on the festival day; for they also went to the festival day.For Jesus himself testified that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.for Jesus himself bore witness that a prophet has no honour in his own country.
John 4:46He came again therefore into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capharnaum.Then when he had come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went to the feast.When therefore he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem during the feast, for they also went to the feast.
John 4:47He having heard that Jesus was come from Judea into Galilee, went to him, and prayed him to come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.He came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain courtier in Capernaum whose son was sick.
John 4:48Jesus therefore said to him: Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not.When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.He, having heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, went to him and asked [him] that he would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
John 4:49The ruler saith to him: Lord, come down before that my son die.Then said Jesus to him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.Jesus therefore said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe.
John 4:50Jesus saith to him: Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.The nobleman saith to him, Sir, come down ere my child dieth.The courtier says to him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
John 4:51And as he was going down, his servants met him; and they brought word, saying, that his son lived.Jesus saith to him, Go; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken to him, and he departed.Jesus says to him, Go, thy son lives. And the man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.
John 4:52He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.But already, as he was going down, his servants met him and brought [him] word saying, Thy child lives.
John 4:53The father therefore knew, that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth; and himself believed, and his whole house.Then he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend: and they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.He inquired therefore from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
John 4:54This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea into Galilee.So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth: and he himself believed, and his whole house.The father therefore knew that [it was] in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son lives; and he believed, himself and his whole house.
