Hosea 10:1 | Israel a vine full of branches, the fruit is agreeable to it: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath multiplied altars, according to the plenty of his land he hath abounded with idols. | Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit to himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath multiplied the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. | Israel is a luxuriant vine, that puts forth his fruit: according to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars; according to the goodness of their land they have made goodly pillars. |
Hosea 10:2 | Their heart is divided: now they shall perish: he shall break down their idols, he shall destroy their altars. | Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images. | Their heart is divided; now shall they be found guilty: he will strike their altars, he will destroy their pillars. |
Hosea 10:3 | For now they shall say: We have no king: because we fear not the Lord: and what shall a king do to us? | For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us? | Surely now shall they say, We have no king; for we don't fear Yahweh; and the king, what can he do for us? |
Hosea 10:4 | You speak words of an unprofitable vision, and you shall make a covenant: and judgment shall spring up as bitterness in the furrows of the field. | They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. | They speak [vain] words, swearing falsely in making covenants: therefore judgment springs up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. |
Hosea 10:5 | The inhabitants of Samaria have worshipped the king of Bethaven: for the people thereof have mourned over it, and the wardens of its temple that rejoiced over it in its glory because it is departed from it. | The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for its people shall mourn over it, and its priests that rejoiced on it, for its glory, because it is departed from it. | The inhabitants of Samaria shall be in terror for the calves of Beth-aven; for the people of it shall mourn over it, and the priests of it who rejoiced over it, for the glory of it, because it is departed from it. |
Hosea 10:6 | For itself also is carried into Assyria, a present to the avenging king: shame shall fall upon Ephraim, and Israel shall be confounded in his own will. | It shall also be carried to Assyria, for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. | It also shall be carried to Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. |
Hosea 10:7 | Samaria hath made her king to pass as froth upon the face of the water. | As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water. | [As for] Samaria, her king is cut off, as foam on the water. |
Hosea 10:8 | And the high places of the idol, the sin of Israel shall be destroyed: the bur and the thistle shall grow up over their altars: and they shall say to the mountains: Cover us; and to the hills: Fall upon us. | The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. | The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall tell the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. |
Hosea 10:9 | From the days of Gabaa, Israel hath sinned, there they stood: the battle in Gabaa against the children of iniquity shall not overtake them. | O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them. | Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood; the battle against the children of iniquity does not overtake them in Gibeah. |
Hosea 10:10 | According to my desire I will chastise them: and the nations shall be gathered together against them, when they shall be chastised for their two iniquities. | It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows. | When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the peoples shall be gathered against them, when they are bound to their two transgressions. |
Hosea 10:11 | Ephraim is a heifer taught to love to tread out corn, but I passed over upon the beauty of her neck: I will ride upon Ephraim, Juda shall plough, Jacob shall break the furrows for himself. | And Ephraim is as a heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods. | Ephraim is a heifer that is taught, that loves to tread out [the grain]; but I have passed over on her beautiful neck: I will set a rider on Ephraim; Judah shall plow, Jacob shall break his clods. |
Hosea 10:12 | Sow for yourselves in justice, and reap in the mouth of mercy, break up your fallow ground: but the time to seek the Lord is, when he shall come that shall teach you justice. | Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he shall come and reign righteousness upon you. | Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Yahweh, until he come and rain righteousness on you. |
Hosea 10:13 | You have ploughed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity, you have eaten the fruit of lying: because thou hast trusted in thy ways, in the multitude of thy strong ones. | Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou hast trusted in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. | You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity; you have eaten the fruit of lies; for you did trust in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men. |
Hosea 10:14 | A tumult shall arise among thy people: and all thy fortresses shall be destroyed as Salmana was destroyed, by the house of him that judged Baal in the day of battle, the mother being dashed in pieces upon her children. | Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be plundered, as Shalman plundered Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. | Therefore shall a tumult arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces with her children. |
Hosea 10:15 | So hath Bethel done to you, because of the evil of your iniquities. | So shall Beth-el do to you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off. | So shall Bethel do to you because of your great wickedness: at daybreak shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off. |
