1st-John 1:1 | That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life: | That which was from the beginning, which we have listened to, which we have seen with our own eyes, and our own hands have handled concerning the Word of Life | That which was from the first, which has come to our ears, and which we have seen with our eyes, looking on it and touching it with our hands, about the Word of life |
1st-John 1:2 | For the life was manifested; and we have seen and do bear witness, and declare unto you the life eternal, which was with the Father, and hath appeared to us: | the Life was manifested, and we have seen and bear witness, and we declare unto you the Life of the Ages which was with the Father and was manifested to us | (And the life was made clear to us, and we have seen it and are witnessing to it and giving you word of that eternal life which was with the Father and was seen by us); |
1st-John 1:3 | That which we have seen and have heard, we declare unto you, that you also may have fellowship with us, and our fellowship may be with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. | that which we have seen and listened to we now announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship in it with us, and this fellowship with us is fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. | We give you word of all we have seen and everything which has come to our ears, so that you may be united with us; and we are united with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ: |
1st-John 1:4 | And these things we write to you, that you may rejoice, and your joy may be full. | And we write these things in order that our joy may be made complete. | And we are writing these things to you so that our joy may be made complete. |
1st-John 1:5 | And this is the declaration which we have heard from him, and declare unto you: That God is light, and in him there is no darkness. | This is the Message which we have heard from the Lord Jesus and now deliver to you God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness. | This is the word which came to us from him and which we give to you, that God is light and in him there is nothing dark. |
1st-John 1:6 | If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. | If, while we are living in darkness, we profess to have fellowship with Him, we speak falsely and are not adhering to the truth. | If we say we are joined to him, and are walking still in the dark, our words are false and our acts are untrue: |
1st-John 1:7 | But if we walk in the light, as he also is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. | But if we live in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. | But if we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, we are all united with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son makes us clean from all sin. |
1st-John 1:8 | If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. | If we claim to be already free from sin, we lead ourselves astray and the truth has no place in our hearts. | If we say that we have no sin, we are false to ourselves and there is nothing true in us. |
1st-John 1:9 | If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all iniquity. | If we confess our sins, He is so faithful and just that He forgives us our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. | If we say openly that we have done wrong, he is upright and true to his word, giving us forgiveness of sins and making us clean from all evil. |
1st-John 1:10 | If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. | If we deny that we have sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Message has no place in our hearts. | If we say that we have no sin, we make him false and his word is not in us. |
