2nd-Peter 2:1But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be teachers of falsehood among you also, who will cunningly introduce fatal divisions, disowning even the Sovereign Lord who has redeemed them, and bringing on themselves swift destruction.But there were false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly put forward wrong teachings for your destruction, even turning away from the Lord who gave himself for them; whose destruction will come quickly, and they themselves will be the cause of it.
2nd-Peter 2:2And many shall follow their riotousnesses, through whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.And in their immoral ways they will have many eager disciples, through whom religion will be brought into disrepute.And a great number will go with them in their evil ways, through whom the true way will have a bad name.
2nd-Peter 2:3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you. Whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their perdition slumbereth not.Thirsting for riches, they will trade on you with their canting talk. From of old their judgement has been working itself out, and their destruction has not been slumbering.And in their desire for profit they will come to you with words of deceit, like traders doing business in souls: whose punishment has been ready for a long time and their destruction is watching for them.
2nd-Peter 2:4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but delivered them, drawn down by infernal ropes to the lower hell, unto torments, to be reserved unto judgment:For God did not spare angels when they had sinned, but hurling them down to Tartarus consigned them to caves of darkness, keeping them in readiness for judgement.For if God did not have pity for the angels who did evil, but sent them down into hell, to be kept in chains of eternal night till they were judged;
2nd-Peter 2:5And spared not the original world, but preserved Noe, the eighth person, the preacher of justice, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.And He did not spare the ancient world, although He preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a deluge on the world of the ungodly.And did not have mercy on the world which then was, but only kept safe Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when he let loose the waters over the world of the evil-doers;
2nd-Peter 2:6And reducing the cities of the Sodomites, and of the Gomorrhites, into ashes, condemned them to be overthrown, making them an example to those that should after act wickedly.He reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and condemned them to overthrow, making them an example to people who might in future be living godless lives.And sent destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah, burning them up with fire as an example to those whose way of life might in the future be unpleasing to him;
2nd-Peter 2:7And delivered just Lot, oppressed by the injustice and lewd conversation of the wicked.But when righteous Lot was sore distressed by the gross misconduct of immoral men He rescued him.And kept safe Lot, the upright man, who was deeply troubled by the unclean life of the evil-doers
2nd-Peter 2:8For in sight and hearing he was just: dwelling among them, who from day to day vexed the just soul with unjust works.(For their lawless deeds were torture, day after day, to the pure soul of that righteous man all that he saw and heard whilst living in their midst.)(Because the soul of that upright man living among them was pained from day to day by seeing and hearing their crimes):
2nd-Peter 2:9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from temptation, but to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be tormented.Since all this is so, the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from temptation, and on the other hand how to keep the unrighteous under punishment in readiness for the Day of Judgement,The Lord is able to keep the upright safe in the time of testing, and to keep evil-doers under punishment till the day of judging;
2nd-Peter 2:10And especially them who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government, audacious, self willed, they fear not to bring in sects, blaspheming.and especially those who are abandoned to sensuality craving, as they do, for polluted things, and scorning control. Fool-hardy and self-willed, they do not tremble when speaking evil of glorious beings;But specially those who go after the unclean desires of the flesh, and make sport of authority. Ready to take chances, uncontrolled, they have no fear of saying evil of those in high places:
2nd-Peter 2:11Whereas angels who are greater in strength and power, bring not against themselves a railing judgment.while angels, though greater than they in might and power, do not bring any insulting accusation against such in the presence of the Lord.Though the angels, who are greater in strength and power, do not make use of violent language against them before the Lord.
2nd-Peter 2:12But these men, as irrational beasts, naturally tending to the snare and to destruction, blaspheming those things which they know not, shall perish in their corruption,But these men, like brute beasts, created (with their natural instincts) only to be captured or destroyed, are abusive in matters of which they are ignorant, and in their corruption will perish,But these men, like beasts without reason, whose natural use is to be taken and put to death, crying out against things of which they have no knowledge, will undergo that same destruction which they are designing for others;
2nd-Peter 2:13Receiving the reward of their injustice, counting for a pleasure the delights of a day: stains and spots, sporting themselves to excess, rioting in their feasts with you:being doomed to receive a requital for their guilt. They reckon it pleasure to feast daintily in broad daylight. They are spots and blemishes, while feeding luxuriously at their love-feasts, and banqueting with you.For the evil which overtakes them is the reward of their evil-doing: such men take their pleasure in the delights of the flesh even in the daytime; they are like the marks of a disease, like poisoned wounds among you, feasting together with you in joy;
2nd-Peter 2:14Having eyes full of adultery and of sin that ceaseth not: alluring unstable souls, having their heart exercised with covetousness, children of malediction:Their very eyes are full of adultery being eyes which never cease from sin. These men set traps to catch unstedfast souls, their own hearts being well trained in greed. They are fore-doomed to God's curse!Having eyes full of evil desire, never having enough of sin; turning feeble souls out of the true way; they are children of cursing, whose hearts are well used to bitter envy;
2nd-Peter 2:15Leaving the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity,Forsaking the straight road, they have gone astray, having eagerly followed in the steps of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was bent on securing the wages of unrighteousness.Turning out of the true way, they have gone wandering in error, after the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was pleased to take payment for wrongdoing;
2nd-Peter 2:16But had a check of his madness, the dumb beast used to the yoke, which speaking with man's voice, forbade the folly of the prophet.But he was rebuked for his transgression: a dumb ass spoke with a human voice and checked the madness of the Prophet.But his wrongdoing was pointed out to him: an ass, talking with a man's voice, put a stop to the error of the prophet.
2nd-Peter 2:17These are fountains without water, and clouds tossed with whirlwinds, to whom the mist of darkness is reserved.These people are wells without water, mists driven along by a storm, men for whom the dense darkness has been reserved.These are fountains without water, and mists before a driving storm; for whom the eternal night is kept in store.
2nd-Peter 2:18For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness, those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:For, while they pour out their frivolous and arrogant talk, they use earthly cravings every kind of immorality as a bait to entrap men who are just escaping from the influence of those who live in error.For with high-sounding false words, making use of the attraction of unclean desires of the flesh, they get into their power those newly made free from those who are living in error;
2nd-Peter 2:19Promising them liberty, whereas they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom a man is overcome, of the same also he is the slave.And they promise them freedom, although they are themselves the slaves of what is corrupt. For a man is the slave of any one by whom he has been worsted in fight.Saying that they will be free, while they themselves are the servants of destruction; because whatever gets the better of a man makes a servant of him.
2nd-Peter 2:20For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former.For if, after escaping from the pollutions of the world through a full knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, people are once more entangled in these pollutions and are overcome, their last state has become worse than their first.For if, after they have got free from the unclean things of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again taken in the net and overcome, their last condition is worse than their first.
2nd-Peter 2:21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of justice, than after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them.For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandments in which they were instructed.For it would have been better for them to have had no knowledge of the way of righteousness, than to go back again from the holy law which was given to them, after having knowledge of it.
2nd-Peter 2:22For, that of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog is returned to his vomit: and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.Their case is that described in the true proverb, "A dog returns to what he has vomited," and also in the other proverb, "The sow has washed itself and now goes back to roll in its filth."They are an example of that true saying, The dog has gone back to the food it had put out, and the pig which had been washed to its rolling in the dirty earth.
