John 7:1After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him.And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
John 7:2Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching. Now the tabernacles, the feast of the Jews, was near.
John 7:3And his brethren said to him: Pass from hence, and go into Judea; that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou dost.So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform.His brethren therefore said to him, Remove hence and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou doest;
John 7:4For there is no man that doth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, manifest thyself to the world. For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world."for no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be [known] in public. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world:
John 7:5For neither did his brethren believe in him.For even His brothers were not believers in Him.for neither did his brethren believe on him.
John 7:6Then Jesus said to them: My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready."My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable.Jesus therefore says to them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.
John 7:7The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil.It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil. The world cannot hate you, but me it hates, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil.
John 7:8Go you up to this festival day, but I go not up to this festival day: because my time is not accomplished. As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come."Ye, go ye up to this feast. I go not up to this feast, for *my* time is not yet fulfilled.
John 7:9When he had said these things, he himself stayed in Galilee.Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee.Having said these things to them he abode in Galilee.
John 7:10But after his brethren were gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but, as it were, in secret. When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately. But when his brethren had gone up, then he himself also went up to the feast, not openly, but as in secret.
John 7:11The Jews therefore sought him on the festival day, and said: Where is he?Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?"The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
John 7:12And there was much murmuring among the multitude concerning him. For some said: He is a good man. And others said: No, but he seduceth the people.Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people."And there was much murmuring concerning him among the crowds. Some said, He is [a] good [man]; others said, No; but he deceives the crowd.
John 7:13Yet no man spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews.Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him.However, no one spoke openly concerning him on account of [their] fear of the Jews.
John 7:14Now about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching. But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
John 7:15And the Jews wondered, saying: How doth this man know letters, having never learned? The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?"The Jews therefore wondered, saying, How knows this [man] letters, having never learned?
John 7:16Jesus answered them, and said: My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me.Jesus therefore answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but [that] of him that has sent me.
John 7:17If any man do the will of him; he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me.If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or [that] I speak from myself.
John 7:18He that speaketh of himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and there is no injustice in him.The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him.He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that has sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness is not in him.
John 7:19Did Moses not give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law?Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?"Has not Moses given you the law, and no one of you practises the law? Why do ye seek to kill me?
John 7:20Why seek you to kill me? The multitude answered, and said: Thou hast a devil; who seeketh to kill thee?"You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you."The crowd answered [and said], Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee?
John 7:21Jesus answered, and said to them: One work I have done; and you all wonder:"One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder.Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all wonder.
John 7:22Therefore, Moses gave you circumcision (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and on the sabbath day you circumcise a man.Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child. Therefore Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye circumcise a man on sabbath.
John 7:23If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are you angry at me because I have healed the whole man on the sabbath day?If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day?If a man receives circumcision on sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be violated, are ye angry with me because I have made a man entirely sound on sabbath?
John 7:24Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment.Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just."Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.
John 7:25Some therefore of Jerusalem said: Is not this he whom they seek to kill? Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill? Some therefore of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
John 7:26And behold, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers known for a truth, that this is the Christ? But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ?and behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers then indeed recognised that this is the Christ?
John 7:27But we know this man, whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from."But [as to] this [man] we know whence he is. Now [as to] the Christ, when he comes, no one knows whence he is.
John 7:28Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching, and saying: You both know me, and you know whence I am: and I am not come of myself; but he that sent me, is true, whom you know not.Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge.Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know.
John 7:29I know him, because I am from him, and he hath sent me.I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me."I know him, because I am from him, and *he* has sent me.
John 7:30They sought therefore to apprehend him: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come. They sought therefore to take him; and no one laid his hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.
John 7:31But of the people many believed in him, and said: When the Christ cometh, shall he do more miracles, than these which this man doth? But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?"But many of the crowd believed on him, and said, Will the Christ, when he comes, do more signs than those which this [man] has done?
John 7:32The Pharisees heard the people murmuring these things concerning him: and the rulers and Pharisees sent ministers to apprehend him.The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him.The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they might take him.
John 7:33Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while I am with you: and then I go to him that sent me.So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me.Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me.
John 7:34You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you cannot come. You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come."Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me], and where I am ye cannot come.
John 7:35The Jews therefore said among themselves: Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? The Jews therefore said to one another, Where is he about to go that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
John 7:36What is this saying that he hath said: You shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, you cannot come? What do those words of his mean, `You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?"What word is this which he said, Ye shall seek me and shall not find [me]; and where I am ye cannot come?
John 7:37And on the last, and great day of the festivity, Jesus stood and cried, saying: If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. On the last day of the Festival the great day Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink. In the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.
John 7:38He that believeth in me, as the scripture saith, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. He who believes in me, from within him as the Scripture has said rivers of living water shall flow."He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
John 7:39Now this he said of the Spirit which they should receive, who believed in him: for as yet the Spirit was not given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. But this he said concerning the Spirit, which they that believed on him were about to receive; for [the] Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
John 7:40Of that multitude therefore, when they had heard these words of his, some said: This is the prophet indeed. After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet."[Some] out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet.
John 7:41Others said: This is the Christ. But some said: Doth the Christ come out of Galilee?Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee?Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee?
John 7:42Doth not the scripture say: That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem the town where David was?Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?"Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?
John 7:43So there arose a dissension among the people because of him.So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account. There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.
John 7:44And some of them would have apprehended him: but no man laid hands on him. Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him.But some of them desired to take him, but no one laid hands upon him.
John 7:45The ministers therefore came to the chief priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them: Why have you not brought him?Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?"The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?
John 7:46The ministers answered: Never did man speak like this man."No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers. The officers answered, Never man spoke thus, as this man [speaks].
John 7:47The Pharisees therefore answered them: Are you also seduced?"Are *you* deluded too?" replied the Pharisees; The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?
John 7:48Hath any one of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?"has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?
John 7:49But this multitude, that knoweth not the law, are accursed. But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!"But this crowd, which does not know the law, are accursed.
John 7:50Nicodemus said to them, (he that came to him by night, who was one of them:)Nicodemus interposed he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them.Nicodemus says to them (being one of themselves),
John 7:51Doth our law judge any man, unless it first hear him, and know what he doth?"Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?"Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?
John 7:52They answered, and said to him: Art thou also a Galilean? Search the scriptures, and see, that out of Galilee a prophet riseth not."Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin."They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look, that no prophet arises out of Galilee.
John 7:53And every man returned to his own house.[So they went away to their several homes; And every one went to his home.
