| James 2:1 | My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with respect of persons. | My brethren, you must not make distinctions between one man and another while you are striving to maintain faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our glory. | My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. |
| James 2:2 | For if there shall come into your assembly a man having a golden ring, in fine apparel, and there shall come in also a poor man in mean attire, | For suppose a man comes into one of your meetings wearing gold rings and fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man wearing shabby clothes, | For if there come into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; |
| James 2:3 | And you have respect to him that is clothed with the fine apparel, and shall say to him: Sit thou here well; but say to the poor man: Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool: | and you pay court to the one who wears the fine clothes, and say, "Sit here; this is a good place;" while to the poor man you say, "Stand there, or sit on the floor at my feet;" | And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say to him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: |
| James 2:4 | Do you not judge within yourselves, and are become judges of unjust thoughts? | is it not plain that in your hearts you have little faith, seeing that you have become judges full of wrong thoughts? | Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? |
| James 2:5 | Hearken, my dearest brethren: hath not God chosen the poor in this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to them that love him? | Listen, my dearly-loved brethren. Has not God chosen those whom the world regards as poor to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him? | Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? |
| James 2:6 | But you have dishonoured the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you by might? and do not they draw you before the judgment seats? | But *you* have put dishonour upon the poor man. Yet is it not the rich who grind you down? Are not they the very people who drag you into the Law courts? | But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats? |
| James 2:7 | Do not they blaspheme the good name that is invoked upon you? | and the very people who speak evil of the noble Name by which you are called? | Do they not blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? |
| James 2:8 | If then you fulfil the royal law, according to the scriptures, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; you do well. | If, however, you are keeping the Law as supreme, in obedience to the Commandment which says "You are to love your fellow man just as you love yourself," you are acting rightly. | If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: |
| James 2:9 | But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, being reproved by the law as transgressors. | But if you are making distinctions between one man and another, you are guilty of sin, and are convicted by the Law as offenders. | But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. |
| James 2:10 | And whosoever shall keep the whole law, but offend in one point, is become guilty of all. | A man who has kept the Law as a whole, but has failed to keep some one command, has become guilty of violating all. | For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. |
| James 2:11 | For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not kill. Now if thou do not commit adultery, but shalt kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. | For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not commit murder," and if you are a murderer, although not an adulterer, you have become an offender against the Law. | For he that said, Do not commit adultery; said also, Do not kill. Now if thou committest no adultery, yet if thou killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law. |
| James 2:12 | So speak ye, and so do, as being to be judged by the law of liberty. | Speak and act as those should who are expecting to be judged by the Law of freedom. | So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. |

| James 2:16 | And one of you say to them: Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; yet give them not those things that are necessary for the body, what shall it profit? | and one of you says to them, "I wish you well; keep yourselves warm and well fed," and yet you do not give them what they need; what is the use of that? | And one of you sayeth to them, Depart in peace, be you warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? |
| James 2:17 | So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself. | So also faith, if it is unaccompanied by obedience, has no life in it so long as it stands alone. | Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. |
| James 2:18 | But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. | Nay, some one will say, "You have faith, I have actions: prove to me your faith apart from corresponding actions and I will prove mine to you by my actions. | Also a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. |

| James 2:21 | Was not Abraham our father justified by works, offering up Isaac his son upon the altar? | Was it, or was it not, because of his actions that he was declared to be righteous as the result of his having offered up his son Isaac upon the altar? | Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? |
| James 2:22 | Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect? | You notice that his faith was co-operating with his actions, and that by his actions his faith was perfected; | Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? |
