Philemon 1:1Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer;Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother: To Philemon our dearly-loved fellow labourerPaul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow-laborer,
Philemon 1:2And to Appia, our dearest sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in thy house:and to our sister Apphia and our comrade Archippus as well as to the Church in your house.And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house:
Philemon 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.May grace be granted to you all, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:4I give thanks to my God, always making a remembrance of thee in my prayers.I give continual thanks to my God while making mention of you, my brother, in my prayers,I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
Philemon 1:5Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints:because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have towards the Lord Jesus and which you manifest towards all God's people;Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all saints;
Philemon 1:6That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work, that is in you in Christ Jesus.praying as I do, that their participation in your faith may result in others fully recognizing all the right affection that is in us toward Christ.That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Philemon 1:7For I have had great joy and consolation in thy charity, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.For I have found great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of God's people have been, and are, refreshed through you, my brother.For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
Philemon 1:8Wherefore though I have much confidence in Christ Jesus, to command thee that which is to the purpose:Therefore, though I might with Christ's authority speak very freely and order you to do what is fitting,Wherefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient.
Philemon 1:9For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul an old man, and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ.it is for love's sake that instead of that although I am none other than Paul the aged, and am now also a prisoner for Christ Jesus,Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
Philemon 1:10I beseech thee for my son, whom I have begotten in my bands, Onesimus,I entreat you on behalf of my own child whose father I have become while in my chains I mean Onesimus.I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
Philemon 1:11Who hath been heretofore unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable both to me and thee,Formerly he was useless to you, but now true to his name he is of great use to you and to me.Who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
Philemon 1:12Whom I have sent back to thee. And do thou receive him as my own bowels.I am sending him back to you, though in so doing I send part of myself.Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, my own bowels:
Philemon 1:13Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bands of the gospel:It was my wish to keep him at my side for him to attend to my wants, as your representative, during my imprisonment for the Good News.Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bonds of the gospel:
Philemon 1:14But without thy counsel I would do nothing: that thy good deed might not be as it were of necessity, but voluntary.Only I wished to do nothing without your consent, so that his kind action of yours might not be done under pressure, but might be a voluntary one.But without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
Philemon 1:15For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee, that thou mightest receive him again for ever:For perhaps it was for this reason he was parted from you for a time, that you might receive him back wholly and for ever yours;For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldst receive him for ever;
Philemon 1:16Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me: but how much more to thee both in the flesh and in the Lord?no longer as a slave, but as something better than a slave a brother peculiarly dear to me, and even dearer to you, both as a servant and as a fellow Christian.Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more to thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
Philemon 1:17If therefore thou count me a partner, receive him as myself.If therefore you regard me as a comrade, receive him as if he were I myself.If thou accountest me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
Philemon 1:18And if he hath wronged thee in any thing, or is in thy debt, put that to my account.And if he was ever dishonest or is in your debt, debit me with the amount.If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee aught, put that on my account;
Philemon 1:19I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee, that thou owest me thy own self also.I Paul write this with my own hand I will pay you in full. (I say nothing of the fact that you owe me even your own self.)I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it: although I do not say to thee that thou owest to me even thy own self besides.
Philemon 1:20Yea, brother. May I enjoy thee in the Lord. Refresh my bowels in the Lord.Yes, brother, do me this favour for the Lord's sake. Refresh my heart in Christ.Yes, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Philemon 1:21Trusting in thy obedience, I have written to thee: knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.I write to you in the full confidence that you will meet my wishes, for I know you will do even more than I say.Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote to thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
Philemon 1:22But withal prepare me also a lodging. For I hope that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.And at the same time provide accommodation for me; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be permitted to come to you.But at the same time prepare me also a lodging; for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given to you.
Philemon 1:23There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus;Greetings to you, my brother, from Epaphras my fellow prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus;There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;
Philemon 1:24Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke my fellow labourers.and from Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellow-laborers.
Philemon 1:25The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with the spirit of every one of you.The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
