John 8:1And Jesus went unto mount Olivet.but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
John 8:2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them.At break of day however He returned to the Temple, and there the people came to Him in crowds. He seated Himself; At dawn, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them.
John 8:3And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst, and was teaching them when the Scribes and the Pharisees brought to Him a woman who had been found committing adultery. They made her stand in the centre of the court, and they put the case to Him.The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst,
John 8:4And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery."Rabbi," they said, "this woman has been found in the very act of committing adultery.they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
John 8:5Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou? Now, in the Law, Moses has ordered us to stone such women to death. But what do you say?"Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such. What then do you say about her?"
John 8:6And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground. They asked this in order to put Him to the test, so that they might have some charge to bring against Him. But Jesus leant forward and began to write with His finger on the ground. They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger, as if he didn't hear.
John 8:7When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. When however they persisted with their question, He raised His head and said to them, "Let the sinless man among you be the first to throw a stone at her."But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."
John 8:8And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground. Then He leant forward again, and again began to write on the ground.Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.
John 8:9But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst. They listened to Him, and then, beginning with the eldest, took their departure, one by one, till all were gone. And Jesus was left behind alone and the woman in the centre of the court. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the midst.
John 8:10Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee? Then, raising His head, Jesus said to her, "Where are they? Has no one condemned you?"Jesus lifted himself up, and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"
John 8:11Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more."No one, Sir," she replied. "And *I* do not condemn you either," said Jesus; "go, and from this time do not sin any more."]She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more."
John 8:12Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.Once more Jesus addressed them. "I am the Light of the world," He said; "the man who follows me shall certainly not walk in the dark, but shall have the light of Life."Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 8:13The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true."You are giving testimony about yourself," said the Pharisees; "your testimony is not true."The Pharisees therefore said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your witness is not valid."
John 8:14Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go."Even if I am giving testimony about myself," replied Jesus, "my testimony is true; for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you know neither of these two things.Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my witness is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don't know where I came from, or where I am going.
John 8:15You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.You judge according to appearances: I am judging no one.You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
John 8:16And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.And even if I do judge, my judgement is just; for I am not alone, but the Father who sent me is with me.Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
John 8:17And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.In your own Law, too, it is written that the testimony of two men is true. It's also written in your law that the testimony of two men is valid.
John 8:18I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.I am one giving testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me gives testimony about me."I am he who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me."
John 8:19They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also."Where is your Father?" they asked. "You know my Father as little as you know me." He replied; "if you knew me, you would know my Father also."They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
John 8:20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. These sayings He uttered in the Treasury, while teaching in the Temple; yet no one arrested Him, because His time had not yet come.Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. No one took him, because his hour had not yet come.
John 8:21Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come.Again He said to them, "I am going away. Then you will try to find me, but you will die in your sins. Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come."Jesus said therefore again to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and will die in your sins. Where I go, you can't come."
John 8:22The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come? The Jews began to ask one another, "Is he going to kill himself, do you think, that he says, `Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come'?"The Jews therefore said, "Will he kill himself, that he says, 'Where I am going, you can't come?'"
John 8:23And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world."You," He continued, "are from below, I am from above: you are of this present world, I am not of this present world. He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
John 8:24Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins; for, unless you believe that I am He, that is what will happen."I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."
John 8:25They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you."You who are you?" they asked. "How is it that I am speaking to you at all?" replied Jesus. They said therefore to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
John 8:26Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world."Many things I have to speak and to judge concerning you. But He who sent me is true, and the things which I have heard from Him are those which I have come into the world to speak."I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world."
John 8:27And they understood not, that he called God his Father. They did not perceive that He was speaking to them of the Father. They didn't perceive that he spoke to them about the Father.
John 8:28Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak:So Jesus added, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He. Of myself I do nothing; but as the Father has taught me, so I speak.Jesus therefore said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then will you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.
John 8:29And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him.And He who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone: for I do always what is pleasing to Him."He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn't left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."
John 8:30When he spoke these things, many believed in him.As He thus spoke, many became believers in Him.As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
John 8:31Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.Jesus therefore said to those of the Jews who had now believed in Him, "As for you, if you hold fast to my teaching, then you are truly my disciples;Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
John 8:32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.and you shall know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free."You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
John 8:33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free?"We are descendants of Abraham," they answered, "and have never at any time been in slavery to any one. What do those words of yours mean, `You shall become free'?"They answered him, "We are Abraham's seed, and have never yet been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, 'You will be made free?'"
John 8:34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin."In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that every one who commits sin is the slave of sin.Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
John 8:35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever. Now a slave does not remain permanently in his master's house, but a son does.A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever.
John 8:36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. If then the Son shall make you free, you will be free indeed. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:37I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.You are descendants of Abraham, I know; but you want to kill me, because my teaching gains no ground within you.I know that you are Abraham's seed, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
John 8:38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father. The words I speak are those I have learnt in the presence of the Father. Therefore you also should do what you have heard from your father."I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father."
John 8:39They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham."Our father is Abraham," they said. "If you were Abraham's children," replied Jesus, "it is Abraham's deeds that you would be doing. They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not. But, in fact, you are longing to kill me, a man who has spoken to you the truth which I have heard from God. Abraham did not do that. But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham didn't do this.
John 8:41You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.You are doing the deeds of your father." "We," they replied, "are not illegitimate children. We have one Father, namely God."You do the works of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God."
John 8:42Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me:"If God were your Father," said Jesus, "you would love me; for it is from God that I came and I am now here. I have not come of myself, but *He* sent me.Therefore Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came forth and have come from God. For neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:43Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. How is it you do not understand me when I speak? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my words. Why don't you understand my speech? Because you can't hear my word.
John 8:44You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. The father whose sons you are is the Devil; and you desire to do what gives him pleasure. *He* was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth for there is no truth in him. Whenever he utters his lie, he utters it out of his own store; for he is a liar, and the father of lies. You are of your Father, the devil, and it is your desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn't stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:45But if I say the truth, you believe me not.But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me.But because I tell the truth, you don't believe me.
John 8:46Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me?Which of *you* convicts me of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me?Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
John 8:47He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.He who is a child of God listens to God's words. You do not listen to them: and why? It is because you are not God's children."He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don't hear, because you are not of God."
John 8:48The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?"Are we not right," answered the Jews, "in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?"Then the Jews answered him, "Don't we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?"
John 8:49Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me."I am not possessed by a demon," replied Jesus. "On the contrary I honour my Father, and you dishonour me.Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
John 8:50But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.I, however, am not aiming at glory for myself: there is One who aims at glory for me and who judges. But I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.
John 8:51Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.In most solemn truth I tell you that if any one shall have obeyed my teaching he shall in no case ever see death."Most assuredly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death."
John 8:52The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever."Now," exclaimed the Jews, "we know that you are possessed by a demon. Abraham died, and so did the Prophets, and yet *you* say, `If any one shall have obeyed my teaching, he shall in no case ever taste death.'Then the Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, 'If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.'
John 8:53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself? Are you really greater than our forefather Abraham? For he died. And the prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"Are you greater than our father, Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"
John 8:54Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God."Were I to glorify myself," answered Jesus, "I should have no real glory. There is One who glorifies me namely my Father, who you say is your God.Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.
John 8:55And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word. You do not know Him, but I know Him perfectly; and were I to deny my knowledge of Him, I should resemble you, and be a liar. On the contrary I do know Him, and I obey His commands. You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I don't know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.
John 8:56Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.Abraham your forefather exulted in the hope of seeing my day: and he saw it, and was glad."Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad."
John 8:57The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?"You are not yet fifty years old," cried the Jews, "and have you seen Abraham?"The Jews therefore said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?"
John 8:58Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am."In most solemn truth," answered Jesus, "I tell you that before Abraham came into existence, I am."Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, before Abraham was born, I AM."
John 8:59They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.Thereupon they took up stones with which to stone Him, but He hid Himself and went away out of the Temple. They took up stones therefore to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
