Luke 4:1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the desert,Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led about by the Spirit in the Desert for forty days,Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
Luke 4:2For the space of forty days; and was tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he was hungry.tempted all the while by the Devil. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.
Luke 4:3And the devil said to him: If thou be the Son of God, say to this stone that it be made bread.Then the Devil said to Him, "If you are God's Son, tell this stone to become bread."The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."
Luke 4:4And Jesus answered him: It is written, that Man liveth not by bread alone, but by every word of God."It is written," replied Jesus, "`It is not on bread alone that a man shall live.'"Jesus answered him, saying,"It is written, 'Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'"
Luke 4:5And the devil led him into a high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time;The Devil next led Him up and caused Him to see at a glance all the kingdoms of the world.The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the inhabited world in a moment of time.
Luke 4:6And he said to him: To thee will I give all this power, and the glory of them; for to me they are delivered, and to whom I will, I give them.And the Devil said to Him, "To you will I give all this authority and this splendour; for it has been handed over to me, and on whomsoever I will I bestow it.The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority, and their glory, for it has been delivered to me; and I give it to whomever I want.
Luke 4:7If thou therefore wilt adore before me, all shall be thine.If therefore you do homage to me, it shall all be yours.'If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours."
Luke 4:8And Jesus answering said to him: It is written: Thou shalt adore the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.Jesus answered him, "It is written, `To the Lord thy God thou shalt do homage, and to Him alone shalt thou render worship.'"Jesus answered him, "Get behind me Satan! For it is written, 'You will worship the Lord your God, and him only will you serve.'"
Luke 4:9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and he said to him: If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself from hence.Then he brought Him to Jerusalem and caused Him to stand on the roof of the Temple, and said to Him, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down from here; for it is written,He led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here,
Luke 4:10For it is written, that He hath given his angels charge over thee, that they keep thee.`He will give orders to His angels concerning thee, to guard thee safely;'for it is written, 'He will give his angels charge concerning you, to guard you;'
Luke 4:11And that in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone.and `On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest at any moment thou shouldst strike thy foot against a stone.'"and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, Lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.'"
Luke 4:12And Jesus answering, said to him: It is said: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.The reply of Jesus was, "It is said, `Thou shalt not put the Lord they God to the proof.'"Jesus answering, said to him, "It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'"
Luke 4:13And all the temptation being ended, the devil departed from him for a time.So the Devil, having fully tried every kind of temptation on Him, left Him for a time.When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him for awhile.
Luke 4:14And Jesus returned in the power of the spirit, into Galilee, and the fame of him went out through the whole country.Then Jesus returned in the Spirit's power to Galilee; and His fame spread through all the adjacent districts.Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area.
Luke 4:15And he taught in their synagogues, and was magnified by all.And He proceeded to teach in their synagogues, winning praise from all.He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.
Luke 4:16And he came to Nazareth, where he was brought up: and he went into the synagogue, according to his custom, on the sabbath day; and he rose up to read.He came to Nazareth also, where He had been brought up; and, as was His custom, He went to the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Luke 4:17And the book of Isaias the prophet was delivered unto him. Luke 4:18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. Wherefore he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the contrite of heart,"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim Good News to the poor; He has sent me to announce release to the prisoners of war and recovery of sight to the blind: to send away free those whom tyranny has crushed,"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, Because he anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to the captives, Recovering of sight to the blind, To deliver those who are crushed,
Luke 4:19To preach deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of reward.to proclaim the year of acceptance with the Lord."And to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
Luke 4:20And when he had folded the book, he restored it to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.And rolling up the book, He returned it to the attendant, and sat down to speak. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.
Luke 4:21And he began to say to them: This day is fulfilled this scripture in your ears.Then He proceeded to say to them, "To-day is this Scripture fulfilled in your hearing."He began to tell them, "Today, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
Luke 4:22And all gave testimony to him: and they wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from his mouth, and they said: Is not this the son of Joseph?And they all spoke well of Him, wondering at the sweet words of kindness which fell from His lips, while they asked one another, "Is not this Joseph's son?"All testified about him, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?"
Luke 4:23And he said to them: Doubtless you will say to me this similitude: Physician, heal thyself: as great things as we have heard done in Capharnaum, do also here in thy own country."Doubtless," said He, "you will quote to me the proverb, `Physician, cure yourself: all that we hear that you have done at Capernaum, do here also in your native place.'"He said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this parable, 'Physician, heal yourself. Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.'"
Luke 4:24And he said: Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country."I tell you in solemn truth," He added, "that no Prophet is welcomed among his own people.He said, "Most assuredly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.
Luke 4:25In truth I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth.But I tell you in truth that there was many a widow in Israel in the time of Elijah, when there was no rain for three years and six months and there came a severe famine over all the land;But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land.
Luke 4:26And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman.and yet to not one of them was Elijah sent: he was only sent to a widow at Zarephath in the Sidonian country.Elijah was sent to none of them, except only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.
Luke 4:27And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet: and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.And there was also many a leper in Israel in the time of the Prophet Elisha, and yet not one of them was cleansed, but Naaman the Syrian was."There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."
Luke 4:28And all they in the synagogue, hearing these things, were filled with anger.Then all in the synagogue, while listening to these words, were filled with fury.They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things;
Luke 4:29And they rose up and thrust him out of the city; and they brought him to the brow of the hill, whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.They rose, hurried Him outside the town, and brought Him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, to throw Him down the cliff;and they rose up, and threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff.
Luke 4:30But he passing through the midst of them, went his way.but He passed through the midst of them and went His way.But he, passing through the midst of them, went his way.
Luke 4:31And he went down into Capharnaum, a city of Galilee, and there he taught them on the sabbath days.So He came down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, where He frequently taught the people on the Sabbath days.He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. Luke 4:32And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his speech was with power.And they were greatly impressed by His teaching, because He spoke with the language of authority.and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority.
Luke 4:33And in the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean devil, and he cried out with a loud voice,But in the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of a foul demon. In a loud voice he cried out,In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,
Luke 4:34Saying: Let us alone, what have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God."Ha! Jesus the Nazarene, what have you to do with us? I know who you are God's Holy One!"saying, "Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!"
Luke 4:35And Jesus rebuked him, saying: Hold thy peace, and go out of him. And when the devil had thrown him into the midst, he went out of him, and hurt him not at all.But Jesus rebuked the demon. "Silence!" He exclaimed; "come out of him." Upon this, the demon hurled the man into the midst of them, and came out of him without doing him any harm.Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" When the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm.
Luke 4:36And there came fear upon all, and they talked among themselves, saying: What word is this, for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they go out?All were astonished and awe-struck; and they asked one another, "What sort of language is this? For with authority and real power He gives orders to the foul spirits and they come out."Amazement came on all, and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!"
Luke 4:37And the fame of him was published into every place of the country.And the talk about Him spread into every part of the neighbouring country.News about him went forth into every place of the surrounding region.
Luke 4:38And Jesus rising up out of the synagogue, went into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever, and they besought him for her.Now when He rose and left the synagogue He went to Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from an acute attack of fever; and they consulted Him about her.He rose up from the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him for her.
Luke 4:39And standing over her, he commanded the fever, and it left her. And immediately rising, she ministered to them.Then standing over her He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and she at once rose and waited on them.He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her. Immediately she rose up and ministered to them.
Luke 4:40And when the sun was down, all they that had any sick with divers diseases, brought them to him. But he laying his hands on every one of them, healed them.At sunset all who had friends suffering from any illness brought them to Him, and He laid His hands on them all, one by one, and cured them.When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Luke 4:41And devils went out from many, crying out and saying: Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them he suffered them not to speak, for they knew that he was Christ.Demons also came out of many, loudly calling out, "You are the Son of God." But He rebuked them and forbad them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.Demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" Rebuking them, he didn't allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
Luke 4:42And when it was day, going out he went into a desert place, and the multitudes sought him, and came unto him: and they stayed him that he should not depart from them.Next morning, at daybreak, He left the town and went away to a solitary place; but the people flocked out to find Him, and, coming to the place where He was, they endeavoured to detain Him that He might not leave them.When it was day, he came out and went into an uninhabited place, and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn't go away from them.
Luke 4:43To whom he said: To other cities also I must preach the kingdom of God: for therefore am I sent.But He said to them, "I have to tell the Good News of the Kingdom of God to the other towns also, because for this purpose I was sent."But he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for this reason I have been sent."
Luke 4:44And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.And for some time He preached in the synagogues in Galilee.He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
