| Mark 4:1 | And again he began to teach by the sea side; and a great multitude was gathered together unto him, so that he went up into a ship, and sat in the sea; and all the multitude was upon the land by the sea side. | Once more He began to teach by the side of the Lake, and a vast multitude of people came together to listen to Him. He therefore went on board the boat and sat there, a little way from the land; and all the people were on the shore close to the water. | Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea, and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea. |
| Mark 4:2 | And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his doctrine: | Then He proceeded to teach them many lessons in figurative language; and in His teaching He said, | He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching, |
| Mark 4:3 | Hear ye: Behold, the sower went out to sow. | "Listen: the sower goes out to sow. | "Listen! Behold, the farmer went forth to sow, |
| Mark 4:4 | And whilst he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate it up. | As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up. | and it happened, as he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds came and devoured it. |
| Mark 4:5 | And other some fell upon stony ground, where it had not much earth; and it shot up immediately, because it had no depth of earth. | Some falls on the rocky ground where it finds but little earth, and it shoots up quickly because it has no depth of soil; | Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil. |

| Mark 4:12 | That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand: lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. | that "`They may look and look but not see, and listen and listen but not understand, lest perchance they should return and be pardoned.'" | that 'seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.'" |

| Mark 4:15 | And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown, and as soon as they have heard, immediately Satan cometh and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. | Those who receive the seed by the way-side are those in whom the Message is sown, but, when they have heard it, Satan comes at once and carries away the Message sown in them. | These are they by the road, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which has been sown in them. |
| Mark 4:16 | And these likewise are they that are sown on the stony ground: who when they have heard the word, immediately recieve it with joy. | In the same way those who receive the seed on the rocky places are those who, when they have heard the Message, at once accept it joyfully, | These in like manner are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy. |
| Mark 4:17 | And they have no root in themselves, but are only for a time: and then when tribulation and persecution ariseth for the word they are presently scandalized. | but they have no root within them. They last for a time; then, when suffering or persecution comes because of the Message, they are immediately overthrown. | They have no root in themselves, but endure for a while, then, when oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble. |

| Mark 4:20 | And these are they who are sown upon the good ground, who hear the word, and receive it, and yield fruit, the one thirty, another sixty, and another a hundred. | Those, on the other hand, who have received the seed on the good ground, are all who hear the Message and welcome it, and yield a return of thirty, sixty, or a hundred fold." | These are those who were sown on the good ground: such as hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times." |
| Mark 4:21 | And he said to them: Doth a candle come in to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? | He went on to say, "Is the lamp brought in in order to be put under the bushel or under the bed? Is it not rather in order that it may be placed on the lampstand? | He said to them, "Is the lamp brought to be put under a basket or under the bed? Isn't it put on the lampstand? |
