Matthew 25:1 | Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride. | "Then will the Kingdom of the Heavens be found to be like ten bridesmaids who took their torches and went out to meet the bridegroom. | "Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. |
Matthew 25:2 | And five of them were foolish, and five wise. | Five of them were foolish and five were wise. | Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. |
Matthew 25:3 | But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them: | For the foolish, when they took their torches, did not provide themselves with oil; | Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, |
Matthew 25:4 | But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps. | but the wise, besides their torches, took oil in their flasks. | but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. |
Matthew 25:5 | And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept. | The bridegroom was a long time in coming, so that meanwhile they all became drowsy and fell asleep. | Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept. |
Matthew 25:6 | And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh, go ye forth to meet him. | But at midnight there is a loud cry, "`The bridegroom! Go out and meet him!' | But at midnight there was a cry, 'Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!' |
Matthew 25:7 | Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. | "Then all those bridesmaids roused themselves and trimmed their torches. | Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. |
Matthew 25:8 | And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out. | "`Give us some of your oil,' said the foolish ones to the wise, `for our torches are going out.' | The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' |
Matthew 25:9 | The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. | "`But perhaps,' replied the wise, `there will not be enough for all of us. Go to the shops rather, and buy some for yourselves.' | But the wise answered, saying, 'What if there will not be enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' |
Matthew 25:10 | Now whilst they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut. | "So they went to buy. But meanwhile the bridegroom came; those bridesmaids who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. | While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. |
Matthew 25:11 | But at last come also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us. | "Afterwards the other bridesmaids came and cried, "`Sir, Sir, open the door to us.' | Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.' |
Matthew 25:12 | But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not. | "`In solemn truth I tell you,' he replied, `I do not know you.' | But he answered, 'Most assuredly I tell you, I don't know you.' |
Matthew 25:13 | Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour. | "Keep awake therefore; for you know neither the day nor the hour. | Watch therefore, for you don't know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. |
Matthew 25:14 | For even as a man going into a far country, called his servants, and delivered to them his goods; | "Why, it is like a man who, when going on his travels, called his bondservants and entrusted his property to their care. | "For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and delivered his goods to them. |
Matthew 25:15 | And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey. | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one to each according to his individual capacity; and then started from home. | To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability, and he went on his journey. |
Matthew 25:16 | And he that had received the five talents, went his way, and traded with the same, and gained other five. | Without delay the one who had received the five talents went and employed them in business, and gained five more. | Immediately he who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. |
Matthew 25:17 | And in like manner he that had received the two, gained other two. | In the same way he who had the two gained two more. | In like manner he also who got the two gained another two. |
Matthew 25:18 | But he that had received the one, going his way digged into the earth, and hid his lord's money. | But the man who had received the one went and dug a hole and buried his master's money. | But he who received the one went away and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money. |
Matthew 25:19 | But after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reckoned with them. | "After a long lapse of time the master of those servants returned, and had a reckoning with them. | Now after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reconciled accounts with them. |
Matthew 25:20 | And he that had received the five talents coming, brought other five talents, saying: Lord, thou didst deliver to me five talents, behold I have gained other five over and above. | The one who had received the five talents came and brought five more, and said, "`Sir, it was five talents that you entrusted to me: see, I have gained five more.' | He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents besides them.' |
Matthew 25:21 | His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant, because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. | "`You have done well, good and trustworthy servant,' replied his master; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' |
Matthew 25:22 | And he also that had received the two talents came and said: Lord, thou deliveredst two talents to me: behold I have gained other two. | "The second, who had received the two talents, came and said, "`Sir, it was two talents you entrusted to me: see, I have gained two more.' | He also who got the two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents besides them.' |
Matthew 25:23 | His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. | "`Good and trustworthy servant, you have done well,' his master replied; `you have been trustworthy in the management of a little, I will put you in charge of much: share your master's joy.' | His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.' |
Matthew 25:24 | But he that had received the one talent, came and said: Lord, I know that thou art a hard man; thou reapest where thou hast not sown, and gatherest where thou hast not strewed. | "But, next, the man who had the one talent in his keeping came and said, "`Sir, I knew you to be a severe man, reaping where you had not sown and garnering what you had not winnowed. | He also who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter. |
Matthew 25:25 | And being afraid I went and hid thy talent in the earth: behold here thou hast that which is thine. | So being afraid I went and buried your talent in the ground: there you have what belongs to you.' | I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have your own.' |
Matthew 25:26 | And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not, and gather where I have not strewed: | "`You wicked and slothful servant,' replied his master, `did you know that I reap where I have not sown, and garner what I have not winnowed? | But his lord answered him, 'You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn't sow, and gather where I didn't scatter. |
Matthew 25:27 | Thou oughtest therefore to have committed my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received my own with usury. | Your duty then was to deposit my money in some bank, and so when I came I should have got back my property with interest. | You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest. |
Matthew 25:28 | Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that hath ten talents. | So take away the talent from him, and give it to the man who has the ten.' | Take away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. |
Matthew 25:29 | For to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: but from him that hath not, that also which he seemeth to have shall be taken away. | (For to every one who has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but from him who has nothing, even what he has shall be taken away.) | For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who has not, even that which he has will be taken away. |
Matthew 25:30 | And the unprofitable servant cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. | `But as for this worthless servant, put him out into the darkness outside: *there* will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' | Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.' |
Matthew 25:31 | And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty. | "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then will He sit upon His glorious throne, | "But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then will he sit on the throne of his glory. |
Matthew 25:32 | And all nations shall be gathered together before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats: | and all the nations will be gathered into His presence. And He will separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; | Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. |
Matthew 25:33 | And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left. | and will make the sheep stand at His right hand, and the goats at His left. | He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. |
Matthew 25:34 | Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. | "Then the King will say to those at His right, "`Come, my Father's blessed ones, receive your inheritance of the Kingdom which has been divinely intended for you ever since the creation of the world. | Then the King will tell them on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; |
Matthew 25:35 | For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in: | For when I was hungry, you gave me food; when I was thirsty, you gave me drink; when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome; | for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in; |
Matthew 25:36 | Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me. | when I was ill-clad, you clothed me; when I was sick, you visited me; when I was in prison, you came to see me.' | naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.' |
Matthew 25:37 | Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink? | "`When, Lord,' the righteous will reply, `did we see Thee hungry, and feed Thee; or thirsty, and give Thee drink? | Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? |
Matthew 25:38 | And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee? | When did we see Thee homeless, and give Thee a welcome? or ill-clad, and clothe Thee? | When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? |
Matthew 25:39 | Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee? | When did we see Thee sick or in prison, and come to see Thee?' | When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?' |
Matthew 25:40 | And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me. | "But the King will answer them, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you rendered such services to one of the humblest of these my brethren, you rendered them to myself.' | The King will answer them, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.' |
Matthew 25:41 | Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. | "Then will He say to those at His left, "`Begone from me, with the curse resting upon you, into the Fire of the Ages, which has been prepared for the Devil and his angels. | Then will he say also to them on the left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; |
Matthew 25:42 | For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink. | For when I was hungry, you gave me nothing to eat; when thirsty, you gave me nothing to drink; | for I was hungry, and you didn't give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; |
Matthew 25:43 | I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me. | when homeless, you gave me no welcome; ill-clad, you clothed me not; sick or in prison, you visited me not.' | I was a stranger, and you didn't take me in; naked, and you didn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me.' |
Matthew 25:44 | Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee? | "Then will they also answer, "`Lord, when did we see Thee hungry or thirsty or homeless or ill-clad or sick or in prison, and not come to serve Thee?' | Then will they also answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not help you?' |
Matthew 25:45 | Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me. | "But he will reply, "`In solemn truth I tell you that in so far as you withheld such services from one of the humblest of these, you withheld them from me.' | Then will he answer them, saying, 'Most assuredly I tell you, inasmuch as you didn't do it to one of these least, you didn't do it to me.' |
Matthew 25:46 | And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting. | "And these shall go away into the Punishment of the Ages, but the righteous into the Life of the Ages." | These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." |
