2nd-Peter 2:1But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition, and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be teachers of falsehood among you also, who will cunningly introduce fatal divisions, disowning even the Sovereign Lord who has redeemed them, and bringing on themselves swift destruction.And there did come also false prophets among the people, as also among you there shall be false teachers, who shall bring in besides destructive sects, and the Master who bought them denying, bringing to themselves quick destruction,
2nd-Peter 2:2And many shall follow their riotousnesses, through whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.And in their immoral ways they will have many eager disciples, through whom religion will be brought into disrepute.and many shall follow out their destructive ways, because of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of,
2nd-Peter 2:3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you. Whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their perdition slumbereth not.Thirsting for riches, they will trade on you with their canting talk. From of old their judgement has been working itself out, and their destruction has not been slumbering.and in covetousness, with moulded words, of you they shall make merchandise, whose judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction doth not slumber.
2nd-Peter 2:4For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but delivered them, drawn down by infernal ropes to the lower hell, unto torments, to be reserved unto judgment:For God did not spare angels when they had sinned, but hurling them down to Tartarus consigned them to caves of darkness, keeping them in readiness for judgement.For if God messengers who sinned did not spare, but with chains of thick gloom, having cast [them] down to Tartarus, did deliver [them] to judgment, having been reserved,
2nd-Peter 2:5And spared not the original world, but preserved Noe, the eighth person, the preacher of justice, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.And He did not spare the ancient world, although He preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a deluge on the world of the ungodly.and the old world did not spare, but the eighth person, Noah, of righteousness a preacher, did keep, a flood on the world of the impious having brought,
2nd-Peter 2:6And reducing the cities of the Sodomites, and of the Gomorrhites, into ashes, condemned them to be overthrown, making them an example to those that should after act wickedly.He reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and condemned them to overthrow, making them an example to people who might in future be living godless lives.and the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah having turned to ashes, with an overthrow did condemn, an example to those about to be impious having set [them];
2nd-Peter 2:7And delivered just Lot, oppressed by the injustice and lewd conversation of the wicked.But when righteous Lot was sore distressed by the gross misconduct of immoral men He rescued him.and righteous Lot, worn down by the conduct in lasciviousness of the impious, He did rescue,
2nd-Peter 2:8For in sight and hearing he was just: dwelling among them, who from day to day vexed the just soul with unjust works.(For their lawless deeds were torture, day after day, to the pure soul of that righteous man all that he saw and heard whilst living in their midst.)for in seeing and hearing, the righteous man, dwelling among them, day by day the righteous soul with unlawful works was harassing.
2nd-Peter 2:9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly from temptation, but to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be tormented.Since all this is so, the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from temptation, and on the other hand how to keep the unrighteous under punishment in readiness for the Day of Judgement,The Lord hath known to rescue pious ones out of temptation, and unrighteous ones to a day of judgment, being punished, to keep,
2nd-Peter 2:10And especially them who walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government, audacious, self willed, they fear not to bring in sects, blaspheming.and especially those who are abandoned to sensuality craving, as they do, for polluted things, and scorning control. Fool-hardy and self-willed, they do not tremble when speaking evil of glorious beings;and chiefly those going behind the flesh in desire of uncleanness, and lordship despising; presumptuous, self-complacent, dignities they are not afraid to speak evil of,
2nd-Peter 2:11Whereas angels who are greater in strength and power, bring not against themselves a railing judgment.while angels, though greater than they in might and power, do not bring any insulting accusation against such in the presence of the Lord.whereas messengers, in strength and power being greater, do not bear against them before the Lord an evil speaking judgment;
2nd-Peter 2:12But these men, as irrational beasts, naturally tending to the snare and to destruction, blaspheming those things which they know not, shall perish in their corruption,But these men, like brute beasts, created (with their natural instincts) only to be captured or destroyed, are abusive in matters of which they are ignorant, and in their corruption will perish,and these, as irrational natural beasts, made to be caught and destroyed in what things they are ignorant of, speaking evil in their destruction shall be destroyed,
2nd-Peter 2:13Receiving the reward of their injustice, counting for a pleasure the delights of a day: stains and spots, sporting themselves to excess, rioting in their feasts with you:being doomed to receive a requital for their guilt. They reckon it pleasure to feast daintily in broad daylight. They are spots and blemishes, while feeding luxuriously at their love-feasts, and banqueting with you.about to receive a reward of unrighteousness, pleasures counting the luxury in the day, spots and blemishes, luxuriating in their deceits, feasting with you,
2nd-Peter 2:14Having eyes full of adultery and of sin that ceaseth not: alluring unstable souls, having their heart exercised with covetousness, children of malediction:Their very eyes are full of adultery being eyes which never cease from sin. These men set traps to catch unstedfast souls, their own hearts being well trained in greed. They are fore-doomed to God's curse!having eyes full of adultery, and unable to cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having an heart exercised in covetousnesses, children of a curse,
2nd-Peter 2:15Leaving the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity,Forsaking the straight road, they have gone astray, having eagerly followed in the steps of Balaam, the son of Beor, who was bent on securing the wages of unrighteousness.having forsaken a right way, they did go astray, having followed in the way of Balaam the [son] of Bosor, who a reward of unrighteousness did love,
2nd-Peter 2:16But had a check of his madness, the dumb beast used to the yoke, which speaking with man's voice, forbade the folly of the prophet.But he was rebuked for his transgression: a dumb ass spoke with a human voice and checked the madness of the Prophet.and had a rebuke of his own iniquity a dumb ass, in man`s voice having spoken, did forbid the madness of the prophet.
2nd-Peter 2:17These are fountains without water, and clouds tossed with whirlwinds, to whom the mist of darkness is reserved.These people are wells without water, mists driven along by a storm, men for whom the dense darkness has been reserved.These are wells without water, and clouds by a tempest driven, to whom the thick gloom of the darkness to the age hath been kept;
2nd-Peter 2:18For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness, those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:For, while they pour out their frivolous and arrogant talk, they use earthly cravings every kind of immorality as a bait to entrap men who are just escaping from the influence of those who live in error.for overswellings of vanity speaking, they do entice in desires of the flesh lasciviousnesses, those who had truly escaped from those conducting themselves in error,
2nd-Peter 2:19Promising them liberty, whereas they themselves are the slaves of corruption. For by whom a man is overcome, of the same also he is the slave.And they promise them freedom, although they are themselves the slaves of what is corrupt. For a man is the slave of any one by whom he has been worsted in fight.liberty to them promising, themselves being servants of the corruption, for by whom any one hath been overcome, to this one also he hath been brought to servitude,
2nd-Peter 2:20For if, flying from the pollutions of the world, through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they be again entangled in them and overcome: their latter state is become unto them worse than the former.For if, after escaping from the pollutions of the world through a full knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, people are once more entangled in these pollutions and are overcome, their last state has become worse than their first.for, if having escaped from the pollutions of the world, in the acknowledging of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and by these again being entangled, they have been overcome, become to them hath the last things worse than the first,
2nd-Peter 2:21For it had been better for them not to have known the way of justice, than after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them.For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandments in which they were instructed.for it were better to them not to have acknowledged the way of the righteousness, than having acknowledged [it], to turn back from the holy command delivered to them,
2nd-Peter 2:22For, that of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog is returned to his vomit: and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.Their case is that described in the true proverb, "A dog returns to what he has vomited," and also in the other proverb, "The sow has washed itself and now goes back to roll in its filth."and happened to them hath that of the true similitude; `A dog did turn back upon his own vomit,` and, `A sow having bathed herself to rolling in mire.`
