Titus 3:1 | Admonish them to be subject to princes and powers, to obey at a word, to be ready to every good work. | Remind people that they must submit to the rulers who are in authority over them; that they must obey the magistrates, be prepared for every right action, | Remind them to be subject to principalities and authorities, to obey rule, unto every good work to be ready, |
Titus 3:2 | To speak evil of no man, not to be litigious, but gentle: shewing all mildness towards all men. | not speak evil of any one, nor be contentious, but yield unselfishly to others and constantly manifest a forgiving spirit towards all men. | of no one to speak evil, not to be quarrelsome gentle, showing all meekness to all men, |
Titus 3:3 | For we ourselves also were some time unwise, incredulous, erring, slaves to divers desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. | For there was a time when we also were deficient in understanding, obstinate, deluded, the slaves of various cravings and pleasures, spending our lives in malice and envy, hateful ourselves and hating one another. | for we were once also we thoughtless, disobedient, led astray, serving desires and pleasures manifold, in malice and envy living, odious hating one another; |
Titus 3:4 | But when the goodness and kindness of God our Savior appeared: | But when the goodness of God our Saviour, and His love to man, dawned upon us, not in consequence of things which we, | and when the kindness and the love to men of God our Saviour did appear |
Titus 3:5 | Not by the works of justice, which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the laver of regeneration, and renovation of the Holy Ghost; | as righteous men, had done, but as the result of His own mercy He saved us by means of the bath of regeneration and the renewal of our natures by the Holy Spirit, | (not by works that [are] in righteousness that we did but according to His kindness,) He did save us, through a bathing of regeneration, and a renewing of the Holy Spirit, |
Titus 3:6 | Whom he hath poured forth upon us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Savior: | which He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; | which He poured upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour, |
Titus 3:7 | That, being justified by his grace, we may be heirs, according to hope of life everlasting. | in order that having been declared righteous through His grace we might become heirs to the Life of the Ages in fulfilment of our hopes. | that having been declared righteous by His grace, heirs we may become according to the hope of life age-during. |
Titus 3:8 | It is a faithful saying: and these things I will have thee affirm constantly: that they, who believe in God, may be careful to excel in good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. | This is a faithful saying, and on these various points I would have you insist strenuously, in order that those who have their faith fixed on God may be careful to set an example of good actions. For these are not only good in themselves, but are also useful to mankind. | Stedfast [is] the word; and concerning these things I counsel thee to affirm fully, that they may be thoughtful, to be leading in good works who have believed God; these are the good and profitable things to men, |
Titus 3:9 | But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law. For they are unprofitable and vain. | But hold yourself aloof from foolish controversies and pedigrees and discussions and wrangling about the Law, for they are useless and vain. | and foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about law, stand away from for they are unprofitable and vain. |
Titus 3:10 | A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, avoid: | After a first and second admonition, have nothing further to do with any one who will not be taught; | A sectarian man, after a first and second admonition be rejecting, |
Titus 3:11 | Knowing that he, that is such an one, is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned by his own judgment. | for, as you know, a man of that description has turned aside from the right path and is a sinner self-condemned. | having known that he hath been subverted who [is] such, and doth sin, being self-condemned. |
Titus 3:12 | When I shall send to thee Artemas or Tychicus, make haste to come unto me to Nicopolis. For there I have determined to winter. | After I have sent Artemas or Tychicus to you, lose no time in joining me at Nicopolis; for I have decided to pass the winter there. | When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis, for there to winter I have determined. |
Titus 3:13 | Send forward Zenas, the lawyer, and Apollo, with care, that nothing be wanting to them. | Help Zenas the lawyer forward on his journey with special care, and Apollos, so that they may have all they require. | Zenas the lawyer and Apollos bring diligently on their way, that nothing to them may be lacking, |
Titus 3:14 | And let our men also learn to excel in good works for necessary uses: that they be not unfruitful. | And let our people too learn to set a good example in following honest occupations for the supply of their necessities, so that they may not live useless lives. | and let them learn ours also to be leading in good works to the necessary uses, that they may not be unfruitful. |
Titus 3:15 | All that are with me salute thee: salute them that love us in the faith. The grace of God be with you all. Amen. | Every one here sends you greeting. Greet the believers who hold us dear. May grace be with you all. | Salute thee do all those with me; salute those loving us in faith; the grace [is] with you all! |
