Genesis 15:1Now when these things were done, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: Fear not, Abram, I am thy protector, and thy reward exceeding great.After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Don't be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."After these things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, Have no fear, Abram: I will keep you safe, and great will be your reward.
Genesis 15:2And Abram said: Lord God, what wilt thou give me? I shall go without children: and the son of the steward of my house is this Damascus Eliezer.Abram said, "Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, seeing I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"And Abram said, What will you give me? for I have no child and this Eliezer of Damascus will have all my wealth after me.
Genesis 15:3And Abram added: But to me thou hast not given seed: and lo my servant, born in my house, shall be my heir.Abram said, "Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir."And Abram said, You have given me no child, and a servant in my house will get the heritage.
Genesis 15:4And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: He shall not be thy heir: but he that shall come out of thy bowels, him shalt thou have for thy heir.Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir, but he who will come forth out of your own body will be your heir."Then said the Lord, This man will not get the heritage, but a son of your body will have your property after you.
Genesis 15:5And he thought him forth abroad, and said to him: Look up to heaven and number the stars, if thou canst. And he said to him: So shall thy seed be.Yahweh brought him outside, and said, "Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you be able to count them." He said to Abram, "So shall your seed be."And he took him out into the open air, and said to him, Let your eyes be lifted to heaven, and see if the stars may be numbered; even so will your seed be.
Genesis 15:6Abram believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.And he had faith in the Lord, and it was put to his account as righteousness.
Genesis 15:7And he said to him: I am the Lord who brought thee out from Ur of the Chaldees, to gibe thee this land, and that thou mightest possess it.He said to him, "I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it."And he said to him, I am the Lord, who took you from Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land for your heritage.
Genesis 15:8But he said: Lord God, whereby may I know that I shall possess it?He said, "Lord Yahweh, whereby will I know that I will inherit it?"And he said, O Lord God, how may I be certain that it will be mine?
Genesis 15:9And the Lord answered, and said: Take me a cow of three years old, and a she goat of three years, and a ram of three years, a turtle also, and a pigeon.He said to him, "Take me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon."And he said, Take a young cow of three years old, and a she-goat of three years old, and a sheep of three years old, and a dove and a young pigeon.
Genesis 15:10And he took all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid the two pieces of each one against the other; but the birds he divided not.He took him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn't divide the birds.All these he took, cutting them in two and putting one half opposite the other, but not cutting the birds in two.
Genesis 15:11And the fowls came down upon carcasses, and Abram drove them away.The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.And evil birds came down on the bodies, but Abram sent them away.
Genesis 15:12And when the sun was setting, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a great and darksome horror seized upon him.When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep came on Abram, and a dark cloud of fear.
Genesis 15:13And it was said unto him: Know thou beforehand that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land not their own, and they shall bring them under bondage, and afflict them four hundred years.He said to Abram, "Know for sure that your seed will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.And he said to Abram, Truly, your seed will be living in a land which is not theirs, as servants to a people who will be cruel to them for four hundred years;
Genesis 15:14But I will judge the nation which they shall serve, and after this they shall come out with great substance.I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great substance.But I will be the judge of that nation whose servants they are, and they will come out from among them with great wealth.
Genesis 15:15And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace, and be buried in a good old age.But you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.As for you, you will go to your fathers in peace; at the end of a long life you will be put in your last resting-place.
Genesis 15:16But in the fourth generation they shall return hither: for as yet the iniquities of the Amorrhites are not at the full until this present time.In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full."And in the fourth generation they will come back here; for at present the sin of the Amorite is not full.
Genesis 15:17And when the sun was set, there arose a dark mist, and there appeared a smoking furnace and a lamp of fire passing between those divisions.It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.Then when the sun went down and it was dark, he saw a smoking fire and a flaming light which went between the parts of the bodies.
Genesis 15:18That day God made a covenant with Abram, saying: To thy seed will I give this land, from the river of Egypt even to the great river Euphrates.In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:In that day the Lord made an agreement with Abram, and said, To your seed have I given this land from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:
Genesis 15:19The Cineans and Cenezites, the Cedmonites,the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,The Kenite, the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite,
Genesis 15:20And the Hethites, and the Pherezites, the Raphaim also,the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,And the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim,
Genesis 15:21And the Amorrhites, and the Chanaanits, and the Gergesites, and the Jebusites.the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."And the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.
