Genesis 21:1And the Lord visited Sara, as he had promised: and fulfilled what he had spoken.Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did to Sarah as he had spoken. And the Lord came to Sarah as he had said and did to her as he had undertaken.
Genesis 21:2And she conceived and bore a son in her old age, at the time that God had foretold her.Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.And Sarah became with child, and gave Abraham a son when he was old, at the time named by God.
Genesis 21:3And Abraham called the name of his son, whom Sara bore him, Isaac.Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. And Abraham gave to his son, to whom Sarah had given birth, the name Isaac.
Genesis 21:4And he circumcised him the eighth day, as God had commanded him,Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.And when his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham made him undergo circumcision, as God had said to him.
Genesis 21:5When he was a hundred years old: for at this age of his father was Isaac born.Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.Now Abraham was a hundred years old when the birth of Isaac took place.
Genesis 21:6And Sara said: God hath made a laughter for me: whosoever shall hear of it will laugh with me.Sarah said, "God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me."And Sarah said, God has given me cause for laughing, and everyone who has news of it will be laughing with me.
Genesis 21:7And again she said: Who would believe that Abraham should hear that Sara gave suck to a son, whom she bore to him in his old age.She said, "Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age."And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would have a child at her breast? for see, I have given him a son now when he is old.
Genesis 21:8And the child grew and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast on the day of his weaning. The child grew, and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. And when the child was old enough to be taken from the breast, Abraham made a great feast.
Genesis 21:9And when Sara had seen the son of Agar the Egyptian playing with Isaac her son, she said to Abraham:Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking. And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian playing with Isaac.
Genesis 21:10Cast out this bondwoman, and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with my son Isaac. Therefore she said to Abraham, "Cast out this handmaid and her son! For the son of this handmaid will not be heir with my son, even with Isaac."So she said to Abraham, Send away that woman and her son: for the son of that woman is not to have a part in the heritage with my son Isaac.
Genesis 21:11Abraham took this grievously for his son.The thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight on account of his son.And this was a great grief to Abraham because of his son.
Genesis 21:12And God said to him: Let it not seem grievous to thee for the boy, and for thy bondwoman: in all that Sara hath said to thee, hearken to her voice: for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.God said to Abraham, "Don't let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your handmaid. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Isaac will your seed be called. But God said, Let it not be a grief to you because of the boy and Hagar his mother; give ear to whatever Sarah says to you, because it is from Isaac that your seed will take its name.
Genesis 21:13But I will make the son also of the bondwoman a great nation, because he is thy seed. Also of the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is your seed."And I will make a nation of the son of your servant-woman, because he is your seed.
Genesis 21:14So Abraham rose up in the morning, and taking bread and a bottle of water, put it upon her shoulder, and delivered the boy, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Bersabee.Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. And early in the morning Abraham got up, and gave Hagar some bread and a water-skin, and put the boy on her back, and sent her away: and she went, wandering in the waste land of Beer-sheba.
Genesis 21:15And when the water in the bottle was spent, she cast the boy under one of the trees that were there. The water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. And when all the water in the skin was used up, she put the child down under a tree.
Genesis 21:16And she went her way, and sat over against him a great way off as far as a bow can carry, for she said: I will not see the boy die: and sitting over against, she lifted up her voice and wept. She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, "Don't let me see the death of the child." She sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept. And she went some distance away, about an arrow flight, and seating herself on the earth, she gave way to bitter weeping, saying, Let me not see the death of my child.
Genesis 21:17And God heard the voice of the boy: and an angel of God called to Agar from heaven, saying: What art thou doing, Agar? fear not: for God hath heard the voice of the boy, from the place wherein he is.God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, "What ails you, Hagar? Don't be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.And the boy's cry came to the ears of God; and the angel of God said to Hagar from heaven, Hagar, why are you weeping? have no fear, for the child's cry has come to the ears of God.
Genesis 21:18Arise, take up the boy, and hold him by the hand: for I will make him a great nation.Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation."Come, take your child in your arms, for I will make of him a great nation.
Genesis 21:19And God opened her eyes: and she saw a well of water, and went and filled the bottle, and gave the boy to drink.God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink. Then God made her eyes open, and she saw a water-spring, and she got water in the skin and gave the boy a drink.
Genesis 21:20And God was with him: and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became a young man, an archer.God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and became, as he grew up, an archer. And God was with the boy, and he became tall and strong, and he became a bowman, living in the waste land.
Genesis 21:21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Pharan, and his mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt. He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt. And while he was in the waste land of Paran, his mother got him a wife from the land of Egypt.
Genesis 21:22At the same time Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army said to Abraham: God is with thee in all that thou dost.It happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his host spoke to Abraham, saying, "God is with you in all that you do.Now at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, said to Abraham, I see that God is with you in all you do.
Genesis 21:23Swear therefore by God, that thou wilt not hurt me, nor my posterity, nor my stock: but according to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land wherein thou hast lived a stranger. Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have sojourned."Now, then, give me your oath, in the name of God, that you will not be false to me or to my sons after me, but that as I have been good to you, so you will be to me and to this land where you have been living.
Genesis 21:24And Abraham said: I will swear.Abraham said, "I will swear."And Abraham said, I will give you my oath.
Genesis 21:25And he reproved Abimelech for a well of water, which his servants had taken away by force.Abraham complained to Abimelech because of a water well, which Abimelech's servants had violently taken away. But Abraham made a protest to Abimelech because of a water-hole which Abimelech's servants had taken by force.
Genesis 21:26And Abimelech answered: I knew not who did this thing: and thou didst not tell me, and I heard not of it till today.Abimelech said, I don't know who has done this thing. Neither did you tell me, neither did I hear of it, until today."But Abimelech said, I have no idea who has done this thing; you never gave me word of it, and I had no knowledge of it till this day.
Genesis 21:27And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech: and both of them made a league.Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech. Those two made a covenant. And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made an agreement together.
Genesis 21:28And Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs of the flock.Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. And Abraham put seven young lambs of the flock on one side by themselves.
Genesis 21:29And Abimelech said to him: What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set apart?Abimelech said to Abraham, "What do these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves mean?"Then Abimelech said, What are these seven lambs which you have put on one side?
Genesis 21:30But he said: Thou shalt take seven ewe lambs at my hand: that they may be a testimony for me, that I dug this well.He said, "You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well."And he said, Take these seven lambs from me as a witness that I have made this water-hole.
Genesis 21:31Therefore that place was called Bersabee: because both of them did swear. Therefore he called that place Beersheba, because they both swore there. So he gave that place the name Beer-sheba, because there the two of them had given their oaths.
Genesis 21:32And they made a league for the well of oath.So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Abimelech rose up with Phicol, the captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines. So they made an agreement at Beer-sheba, and Abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, went back to the land of the Philistines.
Genesis 21:33And Abimelech, and Phicol the general of his army arose and returned to the land of the Palestines. But Abraham planted a grove in Bersabee, and there called upon the name of the Lord God eternal.Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.And Abraham, after planting a holy tree in Beer-sheba, gave worship to the name of the Lord, the Eternal God.
Genesis 21:34And he was a sojourner in the land of the Palestines many days.Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days. And Abraham went on living in the land of the Philistines as in a strange country.
