Matthew 13:1The same day Jesus going out of the house, sat by the sea side.On that day Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the seaside.On that day Jesus went out of the house and was seated by the seaside.
Matthew 13:2And great multitudes were gathered unto him, so that he went up into a boat and sat: and all the multitude stood on the shore.Great multitudes gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat, and sat, and all the multitude stood on the beach.And great numbers of people came together to him, so that he got into a boat; and the people took up their position by the sea.
Matthew 13:3And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying: Behold the sower went forth to sow.He spoke to them many things in parables, saying, "Behold, the farmer went forth to sow.And he gave them teaching in the form of a story, saying, A man went out to put seed in the earth;
Matthew 13:4And whilst he soweth some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate them up.As he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and devoured them.And while he did so, some seeds were dropped by the wayside, and the birds came and took them for food:
Matthew 13:5And other some fell upon stony ground, where they had not much earth: and they sprung up immediately, because they had no deepness of earth.Others fell on rocky ground, where they didn't have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth.And some of the seed went among the stones, where it had not much earth, and straight away it came up because the earth was not deep:
Matthew 13:6And when the sun was up they were scorched: and because they had not root, they withered away.When the sun had risen, they were scorched. Because they had no root, they withered away.And when the sun was high, it was burned; and because it had no root it became dry and dead.
Matthew 13:7And others fell among thorns: and the thorns grew up and choked them.Others fell on thorns. The thorns grew up and choked them:And some seeds went among thorns, and the thorns came up and they had no room for growth:
Matthew 13:8And others fell upon good ground: and they brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.and others fell on good soil, and yielded fruit: some one hundred times, some sixty, and some thirty.And some, falling on good earth, gave fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much.
Matthew 13:9He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.He who has ears to hear, let him hear."He who has ears, let him give ear.
Matthew 13:10And his disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables?The disciples came, and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?"And the disciples came and said to him, Why do you say things to them in the form of stories?
Matthew 13:11Who answered and said to them: Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given.He answered them, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them.And he said to them in answer, To you is given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Matthew 13:12For he that hath, to him shall be given, and he shall abound: but he that hath not, from him shall be taken away that also which he hath.For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have abundance, but whoever doesn't have, from him will be taken away even that which he has.Because whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have more; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
Matthew 13:13Therefore do I speak to them in parables: because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they don't see, and hearing, they don't hear, neither do they understand.For this reason I put things into the form of stories; because they see without seeing, and give ear without hearing, and the sense is not clear to them.
Matthew 13:14And the prophecy of Isaias is fulfilled in them, who saith: By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you will hear, and will in no way understand; Seeing you will see, and will in no way perceive:And for them the words of Isaiah have come true, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you:
Matthew 13:15For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.For this people's heart has grown callous, Their ears are dull of hearing, Their eyes they have closed; Or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their heart, And should turn again; And I would heal them.'For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well.
Matthew 13:16But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear."But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.But a blessing be on your eyes, because they see; and on your ears, because they are open.
Matthew 13:17For, amen, I say to you, many prophets and just men have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the things that you hear and have not heard them.For most assuredly I tell you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which you see, and didn't see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn't hear them.For truly, I say to you that prophets and upright men had a desire to see the things which you see, and saw them not; and to have knowledge of the words which have come to your ears, and they had it not.
Matthew 13:18Hear you therefore the parable of the sower."Hear, then, the parable of the farmer.Give ear, then, to the story of the man who put the seed in the earth.
Matthew 13:19When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, there cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart: this is he that received the seed by the way side.When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside.When the word of the kingdom comes to anyone, and the sense of it is not clear to him, then the Evil One comes, and quickly takes away that which was put in his heart. He is the seed dropped by the wayside.
Matthew 13:20And he that received the seed upon stony ground, is he that heareth the word, and immediately receiveth it with joy.What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it;And that which went on the stones, this is he who, hearing the word, straight away takes it with joy;
Matthew 13:21Yet hath he not root in himself, but is only for a time: and when there ariseth tribulation and persecution because of the word, he is presently scandalized.yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.But having no root in himself, he goes on for a time; and when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, he quickly becomes full of doubts.
Matthew 13:22And he that received the seed among thorns, is he that heareth the word, and the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choketh up the word, and he becometh fruitless.What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.And that which was dropped among the thorns, this is he who has the word; and the cares of this life, and the deceits of wealth, put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit.
Matthew 13:23But he that received the seed upon good ground, is he that heareth the word, and understandeth, and beareth fruit, and yieldeth the one an hundredfold, and another sixty, and another thirty.What was sown on the good ground, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, who most assuredly bears fruit, and brings forth, some one hundred times, some sixty, some thirty."And the seed which was put in good earth, this is he who gives ear to the word, and gets the sense of it; who gives fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much.
Matthew 13:24Another parable he proposed to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seeds in his field.He set another parable before them, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,And he gave them another story, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man who put good seed in his field:
Matthew 13:25But while men were asleep, his enemy came and oversowed cockle among the wheat and went his way.but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel also among the wheat, and went away.But while men were sleeping, one who had hate for him came and put evil seeds among the grain, and went away.
Matthew 13:26And when the blade was sprung up, and had brought forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle.But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then the darnel appeared also.But when the green stem came up and gave fruit, the evil plants were seen at the same time.
Matthew 13:27And the servants of the goodman of the house coming said to him: Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it cockle?The servants of the householder came and said to him, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where did this darnel come from?'And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, Sir, did you not put good seed in your field? how then has it evil plants?
Matthew 13:28And he said to them: An enemy hath done this. And the servants said to him: Wilt thou that we go and gather it up?He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and gather them up?'And he said, Someone has done this in hate. And the servants say to him, Is it your pleasure that we go and take them up?
Matthew 13:29And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together with it.But he said, 'No, lest perhaps while you gather up the darnel, you root up the wheat with them.But he says, No, for fear that by chance while you take up the evil plants, you may be rooting up the grain with them.
Matthew 13:30Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle, and bind it into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather ye into my barn.Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers, "First, gather up the darnel, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"Let them come up together till the getting in of the grain; and then I will say to the workers, Take up first the evil plants, and put them together for burning: but put the grain into my store-house.
Matthew 13:31Another parable he proposed unto them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.He set another parable before them, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field;He put another story before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and put in his field:
Matthew 13:32Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown up, it is greater than all herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the branches thereof.which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."Which is smaller than all seeds; but when it has come up it is greater than the plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and make their resting-places in its branches.
Matthew 13:33Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.He spoke another parable to them. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened."Another story he gave to them: The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and put in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.
Matthew 13:34All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the multitudes: and without parables he did not speak to them.Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn't speak to them,All these things Jesus said to the people in the form of stories; and without a story he said nothing to them:
Matthew 13:35That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, "I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world."That it might come true which was said by the prophet, Opening my mouth, I will give out stories; I will give knowledge of things kept secret from before all time.
Matthew 13:36Then having sent away the multitudes, he came into the house, and his disciples came to him, saying: Expound to us the parable of the cockle of the field.Then Jesus sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the darnel of the field."Then he went away from the people, and went into the house; and his disciples came to him, saying, Make clear to us the story of the evil plants in the field.
Matthew 13:37Who made answer and said to them: He that soweth the good seed, is the Son of man.He answered them, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,And he made answer and said, He who puts the good seed in the earth is the Son of man;
Matthew 13:38And the field, is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle, are the children of the wicked one.the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the darnel are the sons of the evil one.And the field is the world; and the good seed is the sons of the kingdom; and the evil seeds are the sons of the Evil One;
Matthew 13:39And the enemy that sowed them, is the devil. But the harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers are the angels.The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.And he who put them in the earth is Satan; and the getting in of the grain is the end of the world; and those who get it in are the angels.
Matthew 13:40Even as cockle therefore is gathered up, and burnt with fire: so shall it be at the end of the world.As therefore the darnel is gathered up and burned with fire; so will it be in the end of this age.As then the evil plants are got together and burned with fire, so will it be in the end of the world.
Matthew 13:41The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity.The Son of Man will send forth his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and those who do iniquity,The Son of man will send out his angels, and they will take out of his kingdom everything which is a cause of error, and all those who do wrong,
Matthew 13:42And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth.And will put them into the fire; there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.
Matthew 13:43Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.Then will the upright be shining as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him give ear.
Matthew 13:44The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field."The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.The kingdom of heaven is like a secret store of wealth in a field, which a man came across and put back again; and in his joy he goes and gives all he has, to get that field.
Matthew 13:45Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls."Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls,Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a trader searching for beautiful jewels.
Matthew 13:46Who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.And having come across one jewel of great price, he went and gave all he had in exchange for it.
Matthew 13:47Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes."Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind,Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, which was put into the sea and took in every sort of fish:
Matthew 13:48Which, when it was filled, they drew out, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they cast forth.which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.When it was full, they took it up on the sands; and seated there they put the good into vessels, but the bad they put away.
Matthew 13:49So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will come forth, and separate the wicked from among the righteous,So will it be in the end of the world: the angels will come and take out the bad from the good,
Matthew 13:50And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth."And will put them into the fire: there will be weeping and cries of sorrow.
Matthew 13:51Have ye understood all these things? They say to him: Yes.Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They answered him, "Yes, Lord."Are all these things now clear to you? They say to him, Yes.
Matthew 13:52He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.He said to them, "Therefore, every scribe who has been made a disciple to the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure new and old things."And he said to them, For this reason every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house, who gives out from his store things new and old.
Matthew 13:53And it came to pass: when Jesus had finished these parables, he passed from thence.It happened, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.And when Jesus had come to the end of these stories he went away from there.
Matthew 13:54And coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogues, so that they wondered and said: How came this man by this wisdom and miracles?Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so much that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom, and these mighty works?And coming into his country, he gave them teaching in their Synagogue, so that they were greatly surprised and said, Where did this man get this wisdom and these works of power?
Matthew 13:55Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Jude:Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother called Mary, and his brothers, James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?Is not this the woodworker's son? is not his mother named Mary? and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
Matthew 13:56And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence therefore hath he all these things?Aren't all of his sisters with us? Where, then did this man get all of these things?"And his sisters, are they not all with us? from where, then, has he all these things?
Matthew 13:57And they were scandalized in his regard. But Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house."And they were bitter against him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is nowhere without honour but in his country and among his family.
Matthew 13:58And he wrought not many miracles there, because of their unbelief.He didn't do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.And the works of power which he did there were small in number because they had no faith.
