1st-Peter 5:1 | The ancients therefore that are among you, I beseech, who am myself also an ancient, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ: as also a partaker of that glory which is to be revealed in time to come: | I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed. | The elders which [are] among you I exhort, who [am their] fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of the Christ, who also [am] partaker of the glory about to be revealed: |
1st-Peter 5:2 | Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking care of it, not by constraint, but willingly, according to God: not for filthy lucre's sake, but voluntarily: | Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly; | shepherd the flock of God which [is] among you, exercising oversight, not by necessity, but willingly; not for base gain, but readily; |
1st-Peter 5:3 | Neither as lording it over the clergy, but being made a pattern of the flock from the heart. | neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock. | not as lording it over your possessions, but being models for the flock. |
1st-Peter 5:4 | And when the prince of pastors shall appear, you shall receive a never fading crown of glory. | When the chief Shepherd will be revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away. | And when the chief shepherd is manifested ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory. |
1st-Peter 5:5 | In like manner, ye young men, be subject to the ancients. And do you all insinuate humility one to another, for God resisteth the proud, but to the humble he giveth grace. | Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." | Likewise [ye] younger, be subject to [the] elder, and all of you bind on humility towards one another; for God sets himself against [the] proud, but to [the] humble gives grace. |
1st-Peter 5:6 | Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation: | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in [the due] time; |
1st-Peter 5:7 | Casting all your care upon him, for he hath care of you. | casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. | having cast all your care upon him, for he cares about you. |
1st-Peter 5:8 | Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour. | Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. | Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. |
1st-Peter 5:9 | Whom resist ye, strong in faith: knowing that the same affliction befalls your brethren who are in the world. | Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings. | Whom resist, stedfast in faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which [is] in [the] world. |
1st-Peter 5:10 | But the God of all grace, who hath called us into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, will himself perfect you, and confirm you, and establish you. | But may the God of all grace (who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus), after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. | But the God of all grace who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, when ye have suffered for a little while, himself shall make perfect, stablish, strengthen, ground: |
1st-Peter 5:11 | To him be glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen. | To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. | to him [be] the glory and the might for the ages of the ages. Amen. |
1st-Peter 5:12 | By Sylvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I think, I have written briefly: beseeching and testifying that this is the true grace of God, wherein you stand. | Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand. | By Silvanus, the faithful brother, as I suppose, I have written to you briefly; exhorting and testifying that this is [the] true grace of God in which ye stand. |
1st-Peter 5:13 | The church that is in Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you: and so doth my son Mark. | She who is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you; and so does Mark, my son. | She that is elected with [you] in Babylon salutes you, and Marcus my son. |
1st-Peter 5:14 | Salute one another with a holy kiss. Grace be to all you, who are in Christ Jesus. Amen. | Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen. | Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with you all who [are] in Christ. |
