Acts 24:1And after five days the high priest Ananias came down, with some of the ancients, and one Tertullus an orator, who went to the governor against Paul.After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul.And after five days came down the high priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator called Tertullus, and laid their informations against Paul before the governor.
Acts 24:2And Paul being called for, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying: Whereas through thee we live in much peace, and many things are rectified by thy providence,When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, "Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that excellent measures are coming to this nation,And he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, Seeing we enjoy great peace through thee, and that excellent measures are executed for this nation by thy forethought,
Acts 24:3We accept it always and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thanksgiving.we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.we receive [it] always and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.
Acts 24:4But that I be no further tedious to thee, I desire thee of thy clemency to hear us in few words.But, that I don't delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words.But that I may not too much intrude on thy time, I beseech thee to hear us briefly in thy kindness.
Acts 24:5We have found this to be a pestilent man, and raising seditions among all the Jews throughout the world, and author of the sedition of the sect of the Nazarenes.For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.For finding this man a pest, and moving sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the sect of the Nazaraeans;
Acts 24:6Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom, we having apprehended, would also have judged according to our law.He even tried to profane the temple. We arrested him.who also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also had seized, [and would have judged according to our law;
Acts 24:7But Lysias the tribune coming upon us, with great violence took him away out of our hands;but Lysias, the chiliarch, coming up, took [him] away with great force out of our hands,
Acts 24:8Commanding his accusers to come to thee: of whom thou mayest thyself, by examination, have knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him."having commanded his accusers to come to thee;] of whom thou canst thyself, in examining [him], know the certainty of all these things of which we accuse him.
Acts 24:9And the Jews also added, and said that these things were so.The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so.And the Jews also joined in pressing the matter against [Paul], saying that these things were so.
Acts 24:10Then Paul answered, (the governor making a sign to him to speak:) Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge over this nation, I will with good courage answer for myself.When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, "Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense,But Paul, the governor having beckoned to him to speak, answered, Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge to this nation, I answer readily as to the things which concern myself.
Acts 24:11For thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days, since I went up to adore in Jerusalem:seeing that you can recognize that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem.As thou mayest know that there are not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem,
Acts 24:12And neither in the temple did they find me disputing with any man, or causing any concourse of the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:In the temple they didn't find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues, or in the city.and neither in the temple did they find me discoursing to any one, or making any tumultuous gathering together of the crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city;
Acts 24:13Neither can they prove unto thee the things whereof they now accuse me.Nor can they prove to you the things whereof they now accuse me.neither can they make good the things of which they now accuse me.
Acts 24:14But this I confess to thee, that according to the way, which they call a heresy, so do I serve the Father and my God, believing all things which are written in the law and the prophets:But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;But this I avow to thee, that in the way which they call sect, so I serve my fathers' God, believing all things which are written throughout the law, and in the prophets;
Acts 24:15Having hope in God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection of the just and unjust.having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.having hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is to be a resurrection both of just and unjust.
Acts 24:16And herein do I endeavour to have always a conscience without offence toward God, and towards men.Herein I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.For this cause I also exercise [myself] to have in everything a conscience without offence towards God and men.
Acts 24:17Now after many years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings, and vows.Now after some years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings;And after a lapse of many years I arrived, bringing alms to my nation, and offerings.
Acts 24:18In which I was found purified in the temple: neither with multitude, nor with tumult.amid which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult. But certain Jews from AsiaWhereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia,
Acts 24:19But certain Jews of Asia, who ought to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had any thing against me:who ought to have been here before you, and to make accusation, if they had anything against me.who ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me;
Acts 24:20Or let these men themselves say, if they found in me any iniquity, when standing before the council,Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council,
Acts 24:21Except it be for this one voice only that I cried, standing among them, Concerning the resurrection of the dead am I judged this day by you.unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, 'Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!'"[other] than concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching [the] resurrection of [the] dead.
Acts 24:22And Felix put them off, having most certain knowledge of this way, saying: When Lysias the tribune shall come down, I will hear you.But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, "When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case."And Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair;
Acts 24:23And he commanded a centurion to keep him, and that he should be easy, and that he should not prohibit any of his friends to minister unto him.He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody, and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.ordering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him.
Acts 24:24And after some days, Felix, coming with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jew, sent for Paul, and heard of him the faith, that is in Christ Jesus.But after some days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.And after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.
Acts 24:25And as he treated of justice, and chastity, and of the judgment to come, Felix being terrified, answered: For this time, go thy way: but when I have a convenient time, I will send for thee.As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, "Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will call you to me."And as he reasoned concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment about to come, Felix, being filled with fear, answered, Go for the present, and when I get an opportunity I will send for thee;
Acts 24:26Hoping also withal, that money should be given him by Paul; for which cause also oftentimes sending for him, he spoke with him.He hoped that way that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often, and talked with him.hoping at the same time that money would be given him by Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener and communed with him.
Acts 24:27But when two years were ended, Felix had for successor Portius Festus. And Felix being willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.But when two years were completed, Felix was relieved by Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desirous to oblige the Jews, to acquire their favour, left Paul bound.
