Luke 23:1And the whole multitude of them rising up, led him to Pilate.The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.And the whole multitude of them, rising up, led him to Pilate.
Luke 23:2And they began to accuse him, saying: We have found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he is Christ the king.They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king."And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this [man] perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king.
Luke 23:3And Pilate asked him, saying: Art thou the king of the Jews? But he answering, said: Thou sayest it.Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "So you say."And Pilate demanded of him saying, Art *thou* the king of the Jews? And he answering him said, Thou sayest.
Luke 23:4And Pilate said to the chief priests and to the multitudes: I find no cause in this man.Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, I find no guilt in this man.
Luke 23:5But they were more earnest, saying: He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.But they insisted, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place."But they insisted, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee even on to here.
Luke 23:6But Pilate hearing Galilee, asked if the man were of Galilee?But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.But Pilate, having heard Galilee [named], demanded if the man were a Galilaean;
Luke 23:7And when he understood that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him away to Herod, who was also himself at Jerusalem, in those days.When he found out that he was in Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem in those days.and having learned that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, remitted him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in those days.
Luke 23:8And Herod, seeing Jesus, was very glad; for he was desirous of a long time to see him, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to see some sign wrought by him.Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.And when Herod saw Jesus he greatly rejoiced, for he had been a long while desirous of seeing him, because of hearing many things concerning him, and he hoped to see some sign done by him;
Luke 23:9And he questioned him in many words. But he answered him nothing.He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.and he questioned him in many words, but *he* answered him nothing.
Luke 23:10And the chief priests and the scribes stood by, earnestly accusing him.The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.And the chief priests and the scribes stood and accused him violently.
Luke 23:11And Herod with his army set him at nought, and mocked him, putting on him a white garment, and sent him back to Pilate.Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.And Herod with his troops having set him at nought and mocked him, having put a splendid robe upon him, sent him back to Pilate.
Luke 23:12And Herod and Pilate were made friends, that same day; for before they were enemies one to another.Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.And Pilate and Herod became friends with one another the same day, for they had been at enmity before between themselves.
Luke 23:13And Pilate, calling together the chief priests, and the magistrates, and the people,Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,And Pilate, having called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
Luke 23:14Said to them: You have presented unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people; and behold I, having examined him before you, find no cause in this man, in those things wherein you accuse him.and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.said to them, Ye have brought to me this man as turning away the people [to rebellion], and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found nothing criminal in this man as to the things of which ye accuse him;
Luke 23:15No, nor Herod neither. For I sent you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done to him.Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.nor Herod either, for I remitted you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done by him.
Luke 23:16I will chastise him therefore, and release him.I will therefore chastise him and release him."Having chastised him therefore, I will release him.
Luke 23:17Now of necessity he was to release unto them one upon the feast day.Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.( Now he was obliged to release one for them at the feast.)
Luke 23:18But the whole multitude together cried out, saying: Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:But they all cried out together, saying, "Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!"But they cried out in a mass saying, Away with this [man] and release Barabbas to us;
Luke 23:19Who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for a murder, was cast into prison.one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.who was one who, for a certain tumult which had taken place in the city, and [for] murder, had been cast into prison.
Luke 23:20And Pilate again spoke to them, desiring to release Jesus.Pilate spoke to them again, desiring to release Jesus,Pilate therefore, desirous to release Jesus, again addressed [them].
Luke 23:21But they cried again, saying: Crucify him, crucify him.but they shouted, saying, "Crucify! Crucify him!"But they cried out in reply saying, Crucify, crucify him.
Luke 23:22And he said to them the third time: Why, what evil hath this man done? I find no cause of death in him. I will chastise him therefore, and let him go.He said to them the third time, "Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him."And he said the third time to them, What evil then has this [man] done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will chastise him therefore and release him.
Luke 23:23But they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified; and their voices prevailed.But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.But they were urgent with loud voices, begging that he might be crucified. And their voices [and those of the chief priests] prevailed.
Luke 23:24And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.Pilate adjudged that what they asked for should be done.And Pilate adjudged that what they begged should take place.
Luke 23:25And he released unto them him who for murder and sedition, had been cast into prison, whom they had desired; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.And he released him who, for tumult and murder, had been cast into prison, whom they begged for, and Jesus he delivered up to their will.
Luke 23:26And as they led him away, they laid hold of one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country; and they laid the cross on him to carry after Jesus.When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus.And as they led him away, they laid hold on a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, and put the cross upon him to bear it behind Jesus.
Luke 23:27And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented him.A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.And a great multitude of the people, and of women who wailed and lamented him, followed him.
Luke 23:28But Jesus turning to them, said: Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not over me; but weep for yourselves, and for your children.But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, don't weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.And Jesus turning round to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me, but weep over yourselves and over your children;
Luke 23:29For behold, the days shall come, wherein they will say: Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the paps that have not given suck.For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'for behold, days are coming in which they will say, Blessed [are] the barren, and wombs that have not borne, and breasts that have not given suck.
Luke 23:30Then shall they begin to say to the mountains: Fall upon us; and to the hills: Cover us.Then will they begin to tell the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us.'Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us; and to the hills, Cover us:
Luke 23:31For if in the green wood they do these things, what shall be done in the dry?For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?"for if these things are done in the green tree, what shall take place in the dry?
Luke 23:32And there were also two other malefactors led with him to be put to death.There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.Now two others also, malefactors, were led with him to be put to death.
Luke 23:33And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, they crucified him there; and the robbers, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.And when they came to the place which is called Skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, the other on the left.
Luke 23:34And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. But they, dividing his garments, cast lots.Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And, parting out his garments, they cast lots.
Luke 23:35And the people stood beholding, and the rulers with them derided him, saying: He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the elect of God.The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!"And the people stood beholding, and the rulers also [with them] sneered, saying, He has saved others; let him save himself if this is the Christ, the chosen one of God.
Luke 23:36And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,And the soldiers also made game of him, coming up offering him vinegar,
Luke 23:37And saying: If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"and saying, If *thou* be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
Luke 23:38And there was also a superscription written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."And there was also an inscription [written] over him in Greek, and Roman, and Hebrew letters: This is the King of the Jews.
Luke 23:39And one of those robbers who were hanged, blasphemed him, saying: If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!"Now one of the malefactors who had been hanged spoke insultingly to him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.
Luke 23:40But the other answering, rebuked him, saying: Neither dost thou fear God, seeing thou art condemned under the same condemnation?But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Don't you even fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost *thou* too not fear God, thou that art under the same judgment?
Luke 23:41And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man hath done no evil.And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong."and *we* indeed justly, for we receive the just recompense of what we have done; but this [man] has done nothing amiss.
Luke 23:42And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom.He said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom."And he said to Jesus, Remember me, [Lord,] when thou comest in thy kingdom.
Luke 23:43And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with me in paradise.He said to him, "Most assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."And Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Luke 23:44And it was almost the sixth hour; and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.And it was about [the] sixth hour, and there came darkness over the whole land until [the] ninth hour.
Luke 23:45And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple rent in the midst.
Luke 23:46And Jesus crying out with a loud voice, said: Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. And saying this, he gave up the ghost.Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" Having said this, he breathed his last.And Jesus, having cried with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he expired.
Luke 23:47Now the centurion, seeing what was done, glorified God, saying: Indeed this was a just man.When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous man."Now the centurion, seeing what took place, glorified God, saying, In very deed this man was just.
Luke 23:48And all the multitude of them that were come together to that sight, and saw the things that were done, returned striking their breasts.All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned beating their breasts.And all the crowds who had come together to that sight, having seen the things that took place, returned, beating [their] breasts.
Luke 23:49And all his acquaintance, and the women that had followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood far away, watching these things.And all those who knew him stood afar off, the women also who had followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.
Luke 23:50And behold there was a man named Joseph, who was a counsellor, a good and just man,Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous manAnd behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good man and a just
Luke 23:51(The same had not consented to their counsel and doings;) of Arimathea, a city of Judea; who also himself looked for the kingdom of God.(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for the kingdom of God:(this [man] had not assented to their counsel and deed), of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who also waited, [himself also,] for the kingdom of God
Luke 23:52This man went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body.he having gone to Pilate begged the body of Jesus;
Luke 23:53And taking him down, he wrapped him in fine linen, and laid him in a sepulchre that was hewed in stone, wherein never yet any man had been laid.He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no man had ever yet lain.and having taken it down, wrapped it in fine linen and placed him in a tomb hewn in the rock, where no one had ever been laid.
Luke 23:54And it was the day of the Parasceve, and the sabbath drew on.It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was coming on.And it was preparation day, and [the] sabbath twilight was coming on.
Luke 23:55And the women that were come with him from Galilee, following after, saw the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.And women, who had come along with him out of Galilee, having followed, saw the sepulchre and how his body was placed.
Luke 23:56And returning, they prepared spices and ointments; and on the sabbath day they rested, according to the commandment.They returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.And having returned they prepared aromatic spices and ointments, and remained quiet on the sabbath, according to the commandment.
