Mark 9:1 | And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter and James and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves, and was transfigured before them. | He said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste death, until they see the kingdom of God come with power." | And he said to them, Verily I say to you, that there are some of them that stand here who shall not taste death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power. |
Mark 9:2 | And his garments became shining and exceeding white as snow, so as no fuller upon earth can make white. | After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and brought them up onto a high mountain privately by themselves, and he was changed into another form in front of them. | And after six days, Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up upon a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them. |
Mark 9:3 | And there appeared to them Elias with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. | His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. | And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can whiten them. |
Mark 9:4 | And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. | Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus. | And there appeared to them Elijah, with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. |
Mark 9:5 | For he knew not what he said: for they were struck with fear. | Peter answered Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let's make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." | And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. |
Mark 9:6 | And there was a cloud overshadowing them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying: This is my most beloved son; hear ye him. | For he didn't know what to say, for they were very afraid. | For he knew not what to say: for they were greatly terrified. |
Mark 9:7 | And immediately looking about, they saw no man any more, but Jesus only with them. | A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him." | And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. |
Mark 9:8 | And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them not to tell any man what things they had seen, till the Son of man shall be risen again from the dead. | Suddenly looking around, they saw no one with them any more, except Jesus only. | And suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. |
Mark 9:9 | And they kept the word to themselves; questioning together what that should mean, when he shall be risen from the dead. | As they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen again from the dead. | And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead. |
Mark 9:10 | And they asked him, saying: Why then do the Pharisees and scribes say that Elias must come first? | They kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the rising again from the dead should mean. | And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean. |
Mark 9:11 | Who answering, said to them: Elias, when he shall come first, shall restore all things; and as it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be despised. | They asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" | And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elijah must first come? |
Mark 9:12 | But I say to you, that Elias also is come, (and they have done to him whatsoever they would,) as it is written of him. | He said to them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised? | And he answered and told them, Elijah verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written concerning the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at naught. |
Mark 9:13 | And coming to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes disputing with them. | But I tell you, that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him." | But I say to you, that Elijah is indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they pleased, as it is written concerning him. |
Mark 9:14 | And presently all the people seeing Jesus, were astonished and struck with fear; and running to him, they saluted him. | Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them. | And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. |
Mark 9:15 | And he asked them: What do you question about among you? | Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him greeted him. | And immediately all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, saluted him. |
Mark 9:16 | And one of the multitude, answering, said: Master, I have brought my son to thee, having a dumb spirit. | He asked the scribes, "What are you asking them?" | And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them? |
Mark 9:17 | Who, wheresoever he taketh him, dasheth him, and he foameth, and gnasheth with the teeth, and pineth away; and I spoke to thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not. | One of the multitude answered, "Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit; | And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought to thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit; |
Mark 9:18 | Who answering them, said: O incredulous generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me. | and wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren't able." | And wherever he taketh him, he teareth him; and he foameth and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away; and I spoke to thy disciples that they should cast him out, and they could not. |
Mark 9:19 | And they brought him. And when he had seen him, immediately the spirit troubled him; and being thrown down upon the ground, he rolled about foaming. | He answered them, "Unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him to me." | He answered him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you, how long shall I suffer you? bring him to me. |
Mark 9:20 | And he asked his father: How long time is it since this hath happened unto him? But he said: From his infancy: | They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth. | And they brought him to him: and when he saw him, immediately the spirit tore him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming. |
Mark 9:21 | And oftentimes hath he cast him into the fire and into waters to destroy him. But if thou canst do any thing, help us, having compassion on us. | He asked his father, "How long has it been since this has come to him?" He said, "From childhood. | And he asked his father, How long is it since this came to him? and he said, From a child. |
Mark 9:22 | And Jesus saith to him: If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. | Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us." | And often it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. |
Mark 9:23 | And immediately the father of the boy crying out, with tears said: I do believe, Lord: help my unbelief. | Jesus said to him, "If you can believe? All things are possible to him who believes." | Jesus said to him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. |
Mark 9:24 | And when Jesus saw the multitude running together, he threatened the unclean spirit, saying to him: Deaf and dumb spirit, I command thee, go out of him; and enter not any more into him. | Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, "I believe. Help my unbelief!" | And immediately the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou my unbelief. |
Mark 9:25 | And crying out, and greatly tearing him, he went out of him, and he became as dead, so that many said: He is dead. | When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter no more into him!" | When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying to him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. |
Mark 9:26 | But Jesus taking him by the hand, lifted him up; and he arose. | Having cried out, and convulsed him greatly, it came out. The boy became like one dead; so much that most of them said, "He is dead." | And the spirit cried, and rent him severely, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; so that many said, He is dead. |
Mark 9:27 | And when he was come into the house, his disciples secretly asked him: Why could not we cast him out? | But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose. | But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. |
Mark 9:28 | And he said to them: This kind can go out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. | When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we cast it out?" | And when he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? |
Mark 9:29 | And departing from thence, they passed through Galilee, and he would not that any man should know it. | He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing, except by prayer and fasting." | And he said to them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. |
Mark 9:30 | And he taught his disciple, and said to them: The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise again the third day. | They went forth from there, and passed through Galilee. He didn't want anyone to know it. | And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it. |
Mark 9:31 | But they understood not the word, and they were afraid to ask him. | For he taught his disciples, and said to them, "The Son of Man is delivered up into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again." | For he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and after that he is killed, he will rise the third day. |
Mark 9:32 | And they came to Capharnaum. And when they were in the house, he asked them: What did you treat of in the way? | But they didn't understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him. | But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him. |
Mark 9:33 | But they held their peace, for in the way they had disputed among themselves, which of them should be the greatest. | He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?" | And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house, he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? |
Mark 9:34 | And sitting down, he called the twelve, and saith to them: If any man desire to be first, he shall be the last of all, and the minister of all. | But they were silent, for they had disputed one with another on the way about who was the greatest. | But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. |
Mark 9:35 | And taking a child, he set him in the midst of them. Whom when he had embraced, he saith to them: | He sat down, and called the twelve; and he said to them, "If any man wants to be first, he will be last of all, and servant of all." | And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith to them, If any man desireth to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. |
Mark 9:36 | Whosoever shall receive one such child as this in my name, receiveth me. And whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. | He took a little child, and set him in the midst of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, | And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said to them, |
Mark 9:37 | John answered him, saying: Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, who followeth not us, and we forbade him. | "Whoever receives one such little child in my name, receives me, and whoever receives me, doesn't receive me, but him who sent me." | Whoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. |
Mark 9:38 | But Jesus said: Do not forbid him. For there is no man that doth a miracle in my name, and can soon speak ill of me. | John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone who doesn't follow us casting out demons in your name; and we forbade him, because he doesn't follow us." | And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, and he followeth not us; and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. |
Mark 9:39 | For he that is not against you, is for you. | But Jesus said, "Don't forbid him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my name, and be able quickly to speak evil of me. | But Jesus said, Forbid him not; for there is no man who shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. |
Mark 9:40 | For whosoever shall give you to drink a cup of water in my name, because you belong to Christ: amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward. | For whoever is not against us is on our side. | For he that is not against us, is on our part. |
Mark 9:41 | And whosoever shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me; it were better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck, and he were cast into the sea. | For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you are Christ's, most assuredly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward. | For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say to you, he shall not lose his reward. |
Mark 9:42 | And if thy hand scandalize thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life, maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into unquenchable fire: | Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. | And whoever shall cause one of these little ones that believe in me, to fall into sin, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. |
Mark 9:43 | Where there worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. | If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire, | And if thy hand causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: |
Mark 9:44 | And if thy foot scandalize thee, cut it off. It is better for thee to enter lame into life everlasting, than having two feet, to be cast into the hell of unquenchable fire: | 'where their worm doesn't die, and the fire is not quenched.' | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. |
Mark 9:45 | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. | If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire that will never be quenched | And if thy foot causeth thee to fall into sin, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: |
Mark 9:46 | And if thy eye scandalize thee, pluck it out. It is better for thee with one eye to enter into the kingdom of God, than having two eyes to be cast into the hell of fire: | 'where their worm doesn't die, and the fire is not quenched.' | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. |
Mark 9:47 | Where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished. | If your eye causes you to stumble, cast it out. It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna of fire, | And if thy eye causeth thee to fall into sin, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. |
Mark 9:48 | For every one shall be salted with fire: and every victim shall be salted with salt. | 'where their worm doesn't die, and the fire is not quenched.' | Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. |
Mark 9:49 | Salt is good. But if the salt became unsavory; wherewith will you season it? Have salt in you, and have peace among you. | For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. | For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. |
