John 19:1Then therefore, Pilate took Jesus, and scourged him.Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and flogged him.Then, therefore, did Pilate take Jesus and scourge [him],
John 19:2And the soldiers platting a crown of thorns, put it upon his head; and they put on him a purple garment.The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown, and put it on his head, and dressed him in a purple garment.and the soldiers having plaited a crown of thorns, did place [it] on his head, and a purple garment they put around him,
John 19:3And they came to him, and said: Hail, king of the Jews; and they gave him blows.They said, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and they struck him with their hands.and said, `Hail! the king of the Jews;` and they were giving him slaps.
John 19:4Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith to them: Behold, I bring him forth unto you, that you may know that I find no cause in him.Then Pilate went out again, and said to them, "Behold, I bring him out to you, that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against him."Pilate, therefore, again went forth without, and saith to them, `Lo, I do bring him to you without, that ye may know that in him I find no fault;`
John 19:5(Jesus therefore came forth, bearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment.) And he saith to them: Behold the Man.Jesus therefore came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. Pilate said to them, "Behold, the man!"Jesus, therefore, came forth without, bearing the thorny crown and the purple garment; and he saith to them, `Lo, the man!`
John 19:6When the chief priests, therefore, and the servants, had seen him, they cried out, saying: Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith to them: Take him you, and crucify him: for I find no cause in him.When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, "Crucify! Crucify!" Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves, and crucify him, for I find no basis for a charge against him."When, therefore, the chief priests and the officers did see him, they cried out, saying, `Crucify, crucify;` Pilate saith to them, `Take ye him ye, and crucify; for I find no fault in him;`
John 19:7The Jews answered him: We have a law; and according to the law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God."the Jews answered him, `We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, for he made himself Son of God.`
John 19:8When Pilate therefore had heard this saying, he feared the more.When therefore Pilate heard this saying, he was more afraid.When, therefore, Pilate heard this word, he was the more afraid,
John 19:9And he entered into the hall again, and he said to Jesus: Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.He entered into the Praetorium again, and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.and entered again to the praetorium, and saith to Jesus, `Whence art thou?` and Jesus gave him no answer.
John 19:10Pilate therefore saith to him: Speakest thou not to me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and I have power to release thee?Pilate therefore said to him, "Aren't you speaking to me? Don't you know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?"Pilate, therefore, saith to him, `To me dost thou not speak? hast thou not known that I have authority to crucify thee, and I have authority to release thee?`
John 19:11Jesus answered: Thou shouldst not have any power against me, unless it were given thee from above. Therefore, he that hath delivered me to thee, hath the greater sin.Jesus answered, "You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin."Jesus answered, `Thou wouldst have no authority against me, if it were not having been given thee from above; because of this, he who is delivering me up to thee hath greater sin.`
John 19:12And from henceforth Pilate sought to release him. But the Jews cried out, saying: If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar's friend. For whosoever maketh himself a king, speaketh against Caesar.At this, Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you release this man, you aren't Caesar's friend! Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar!"From this [time] was Pilate seeking to release him, and the Jews were crying out, saying, `If this one thou mayest release, thou art not a friend of Caesar; every one making himself a king, doth speak against Caesar.`
John 19:13Now when Pilate had heard these words, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat, in the place that is called Lithostrotos, and in Hebrew Gabbatha.When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called "The Pavement," but in Hebrew, "Gabbatha."Pilate, therefore, having heard this word, brought Jesus without and he sat down upon the tribunal to a place called, `Pavement,` and in Hebrew, Gabbatha;
John 19:14And it was the parasceve of the pasch, about the sixth hour, and he saith to the Jews: Behold your king.Now it was the Preparation of the Passover, at about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!"and it was the preparation of the passover, and as it were the sixth hour, and he saith to the Jews, `Lo, your king!`
John 19:15But they cried out: Away with him; away with him; crucify him. Pilate saith to them: Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered: We have no king but Caesar.They cried out, "Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"and they cried out, `Take away, take away, crucify him;` Pilate saith to them, `Your king shall I crucify?` the chief priests answered, `We have no king except Caesar.`
John 19:16Then therefore he delivered him to them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him forth.Then therefore he delivered him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away.Then, therefore, he delivered him up to them, that he may be crucified, and they took Jesus and led [him] away,
John 19:17And bearing his own cross, he went forth to that place which is called Calvary, but in Hebrew Golgotha.He went out, bearing his cross, to the place called "The place of a skull," which is called in Hebrew, "Golgotha,"and bearing his cross, he went forth to the place called [Place] of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha;
John 19:18Where they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the midst.where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the middle.where they crucified him, and with him two others, on this side, and on that side, and Jesus in the midst.
John 19:19And Pilate wrote a title also, and he put it upon the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. There was written, "JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS."And Pilate also wrote a title, and put [it] on the cross, and it was written, `Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews;`
John 19:20This title therefore many of the Jews did read: because the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, in Greek, and in Latin.Therefore many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.this title, therefore, read many of the Jews, because the place was nigh to the city where Jesus was crucified, and it was having been written in Hebrew, in Greek, in Roman.
John 19:21Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate: Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am the King of the Jews.The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, "Don't write, 'The King of the Jews,' but that, 'he said, I am King of the Jews.'"The chief priests of the Jews said, therefore, to Pilate, `Write not The king of the Jews, but that one said, I am king of the Jews;`
John 19:22Pilate answered: What I have written, I have written.Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."Pilate answered, `What I have written, I have written.`
John 19:23The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified him, took his garments, (and they made four parts, to every soldier a part,) and also his coat. Now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat. Now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.The soldiers, therefore, when they did crucify Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to each soldier a part, also the coat, and the coat was seamless, from the top woven throughout,
John 19:24They said then one to another: Let us not cut it, but let us cast lots for it, whose it shall be; that the scripture might be fulfilled, saying: They have parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture they have cast lot. And the soldiers indeed did these things.Then they said to one another, "Let's not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it will be," that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, "They parted my garments among them, For my cloak they cast lots." Therefore the soldiers did these things.they said, therefore, to one another, `We may not rend it, but cast a lot for it, whose it shall be;` that the Writing might be fulfilled, that is saying, `They divided my garments to themselves, and upon my raiment they did cast a lot;` the soldiers, therefore, indeed, did these things.
John 19:25Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen.But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.And there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother`s sister, Mary of Cleopas, and Mary the Magdalene;
John 19:26When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son.Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son!"Jesus, therefore, having seen [his] mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he was loving, he saith to his mother, `Woman, lo, thy son;`
John 19:27After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.afterward he saith to the disciple, `Lo, thy mother;` and from that hour the disciple took her to his own [home].
John 19:28Afterwards, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said: I thirst.After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."After this, Jesus knowing that all things now have been finished, that the Writing may be fulfilled, saith, `I thirst;`
John 19:29Now there was a vessel set there full of vinegar. And they, putting a sponge full of vinegar and hyssop, put it to his mouth.Now a vessel full of vinegar was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and brought it to his mouth.a vessel, therefore, was placed full of vinegar, and they having filled a sponge with vinegar, and having put [it] around a hyssop stalk, did put [it] to his mouth;
John 19:30Jesus therefore, when he had taken the vinegar, said: It is consummated. And bowing his head, he gave up the ghost.When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." He bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.when, therefore, Jesus received the vinegar, he said, `It hath been finished;` and having bowed the head, gave up the spirit.
John 19:31Then the Jews, (because it was the parasceve,) that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath day, (for that was a great sabbath day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation, so that the bodies wouldn't remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.The Jews, therefore, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, since it was the preparation, (for that sabbath day was a great one,) asked of Pilate that their legs may be broken, and they taken away.
John 19:32The soldiers therefore came; and they broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him.Therefore the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him;The soldiers, therefore, came, and of the first indeed they did break the legs, and of the other who was crucified with him,
John 19:33But after they were come to Jesus, when they saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they didn't break his legs.and having come to Jesus, when they saw him already having been dead, they did not break his legs;
John 19:34But one of the soldiers with a spear opened his side, and immediately there came out blood and water.However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.but one of the soldiers with a spear did pierce his side, and immediately there came forth blood and water;
John 19:35And he that saw it, hath given testimony, and his testimony is true. And he knoweth that he saith true; that you also may believe.He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you also may believe.and he who hath seen hath testified, and his testimony is true, and that one hath known that true things he speaketh, that ye also may believe.
John 19:36For these things were done, that the scripture might be fulfilled: You shall not break a bone of him.For these things happened, that the scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken."For these things came to pass, that the Writing may be fulfilled, `A bone of him shall not be broken;`
John 19:37And again another scripture saith: They shall look on him whom they pierced.Again another scripture says, "They will look on him whom they pierced."and again another Writing saith, `They shall look to him whom they did pierce.`
John 19:38And after these things, Joseph of Arimathea (because he was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away Jesus' body. Pilate gave him permission. He came therefore, and took away his body.And after these things did Joseph of Arimathea being a disciple of Jesus, but concealed, through the fear of the Jews ask of Pilate, that he may take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave leave; he came, therefore, and took away the body of Jesus,
John 19:39And Nicodemus also came, (he who at the first came to Jesus by night,) bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.Nicodemus also came, he who at first came to Jesus by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred Roman pounds.and Nicodemus also came who came unto Jesus by night at the first bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, as it were, a hundred pounds.
John 19:40They took therefore the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths, with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.So they took Jesus' body, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.They took, therefore, the body of Jesus, and bound it with linen clothes with the spices, according as it was the custom of the Jews to prepare for burial;
John 19:41Now there was in the place where he was crucified, a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein no man yet had been laid.Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden. In the garden a new tomb in which no man had ever yet been laid.and there was in the place where he was crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one was yet laid;
John 19:42There, therefore, because of the parasceve of the Jews, they laid Jesus, because the sepulchre was nigh at hand.Then because of the Jews' Preparation (for the tomb was near at hand) they laid Jesus there.there, therefore, because of the preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was nigh, they laid Jesus.
