John 8:1And Jesus went unto mount Olivet. And at dawn he came again to the temple,But Jesus went to the Mountain of Olives.
John 8:2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them.and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them; And early in the morning he came again into the Temple and all the people came to him and he was seated teaching them.
John 8:3And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation;
John 8:4And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery.they say to him, `Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime committing adultery,And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation.
John 8:5Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou?and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?`Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it?
John 8:6And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger.
John 8:7When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, `The sinless of you let him first cast the stone at her;`But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her.
John 8:8And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,And again, with bent head, he made letters on the floor.
John 8:9But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. And when his words came to their ears, they went out one by one, starting with the oldest even to the last, because they were conscious of what was in their hearts: and Jesus was there by himself with the woman before him.
John 8:10Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee? And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, `Woman, where are those thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?`Then Jesus got up, and seeing nobody but the woman, he said to her, Where are the men who said things against you? did no one give a decision against you?
John 8:11Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.and she said, `No one, Sir;` and Jesus said to her, `Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.`And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, And I do not give a decision against you: go, and never do wrong again.]
John 8:12Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, `I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.`Then again Jesus said to them, I am the light of the world; he who comes with me will not be walking in the dark but will have the light of life.
John 8:13The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true. The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, `Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;`So the Pharisees said to him, The witness you give is about yourself: your witness is not true.
John 8:14Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go.Jesus answered and said to them, `And if I testify of myself my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.Jesus said in answer, Even if I give witness about myself, my witness is true, because I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge of where I come from or of where I am going.
John 8:15You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.`Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,You are judging from what you see; I am judging no man.
John 8:16And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself with me is the Father who sent me.
John 8:17And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;Even in your law it is said that the witness of two men is true.
John 8:18I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.I am [one] who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.`I give witness about myself and the Father who sent me gives witness about me.
John 8:19They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also. They said, therefore, to him, `Where is thy father?` Jesus answered, `Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.`Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father.
John 8:20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come.
John 8:21Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come.therefore said Jesus again to them, `I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.`Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going.
John 8:22The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come? The Jews, therefore, said, `Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?`So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come?
John 8:23And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world.and he said to them, `Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world; And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:24Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin.I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.`For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.
John 8:25They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you. They said, therefore, to him, `Thou who art thou?` and Jesus said to them, `Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning; Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first.
John 8:26Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world.many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I what things I heard from Him these I say to the world.`I have much to say about you and against you: but he who sent me is true and what he has said to me I say to the world.
John 8:27And they understood not, that he called God his Father. They knew not that of the Father he spake to them; They did not see that his words were about the Father.
John 8:28Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak:Jesus, therefore, said to them, `When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am [he]; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak; So Jesus said, When the Son of man has been lifted up by you, then it will be clear to you who I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but say as the Father gave me teaching.
John 8:29And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him.and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.`He who sent me is with me; he has not gone from me, because at all times I do the things which are pleasing to him.
John 8:30When he spoke these things, many believed in him.As he is speaking these things, many believed in him; When he said this a number came to have faith in him.
John 8:31Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, `If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,Then Jesus said to the Jews who had faith in him, If you keep my word, then you are truly my disciples;
John 8:32And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.and the truth shall make you free.`And you will have knowledge of what is true, and that will make you free.
John 8:33They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free? They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say Ye shall become free?`They said to him in answer, We are Abraham's seed and have never been any man's servant: why do you say, You will become free?
John 8:34Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.Jesus answered them, `Verily, verily, I say to you Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,And this was the answer Jesus gave them: Truly I say to you, Everyone who does evil is the servant of sin.
John 8:35Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever.and the servant doth not remain in the house to the age, the son doth remain to the age;Now the servant does not go on living in the house for ever, but the son does.
John 8:36If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.If then the son makes you free, you will be truly free.
John 8:37I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.`I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;I am conscious that you are Abraham's seed; but you have a desire to put me to death because my word has no place in you.
John 8:38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father.I that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father ye do.`I say the things which I have seen in my Father's house: and you do the things which come to you from your father's house.
John 8:39They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham. They answered and said to him, `Our father is Abraham;` Jesus saith to them, `If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing; In answer they said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children you would do what Abraham did.
John 8:40But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not.and now, ye seek to kill me a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that.
John 8:41You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.ye do the works of your father.` They said, therefore, to him, `We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have God;`You are doing the works of your father. They said to him, We are true sons of Abraham; we have one Father, who is God.
John 8:42Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me:Jesus then said to them, `If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;Jesus said to them, If God was your Father you would have love for me, because it was from God I came and am here. I did not come of myself, but he sent me.
John 8:43Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word.wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word. Why are my words not clear to you? It is because your ears are shut to my teaching.
John 8:44You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood not in the truth; because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.`Ye are of a father the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar also his father. You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false.
John 8:45But if I say the truth, you believe me not.`And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.But because I say what is true, you have no belief in me.
John 8:46Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me?Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me?
John 8:47He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.`He who is a child of God gives ear to the words of God: your ears are not open to them because you are not from God.
John 8:48The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, `Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?`The Jews said to him in answer, Are we not right in saying that you are of Samaria and have an evil spirit?
John 8:49Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me.Jesus answered, `I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;And this was the answer of Jesus: I have not an evil spirit; but I give honour to my Father and you do not give honour to me.
John 8:50But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;I, however, am not in search of glory for myself: there is One who is searching for it and he is judge.
John 8:51Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see to the age.`Truly I say to you, If a man keeps my word he will never see death.
John 8:52The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever. The Jews, therefore, said to him, `Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death to the age!The Jews said to him, Now we are certain that you have an evil spirit. Abraham is dead, and the prophets are dead; and you say, If a man keeps my word he will never see death.
John 8:53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself?Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?`Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: who do you say that you are?
John 8:54Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.Jesus answered, `If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;Jesus said in answer, If I take glory for myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who gives me glory, of whom you say that he is your God.
John 8:55And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word.and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep; You have no knowledge of him, but I have knowledge of him; and if I said I have no knowledge of him I would be talking falsely like you: but I have full knowledge of him, and I keep his word.
John 8:56Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.`Your father Abraham was full of joy at the hope of seeing my day: he saw it and was glad.
John 8:57The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? The Jews, therefore, said unto him, `Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?`Then the Jews said to him, You are not fifty years old; have you seen Abraham?
John 8:58Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.Jesus said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham`s coming I am;`Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, Before Abraham came into being, I am.
John 8:59They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.So they took up stones to send at him: but Jesus got secretly out of their way and went out of the Temple.
