John 9:1And Jesus passing by, saw a man, who was blind from his birth:And passing by, he saw a man blind from birth,And when he went on his way, he saw a man blind from birth.
John 9:2And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, who hath sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?and his disciples asked him, saying, `Rabbi, who did sin, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?`And his disciples put a question to him, saying, Master, was it because of this man's sin, or the sin of his father and mother, that he has been blind from birth?
John 9:3Jesus answered: Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.Jesus answered, `Neither did this one sin nor his parents, but that the works of God may be manifested in him;Jesus said in answer, It was not because of his sin, or because of his father's or mother's; it was so that the works of God might be seen openly in him.
John 9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.it behoveth me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night doth come, when no one is able to work:While it is day we have to do the works of him who sent me: the night comes when no work may be done.
John 9:5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.when I am in the world, I am a light of the world.`As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
John 9:6When he had said these things, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread the clay on his eyes,These things saying, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him,Having said these words, he put earth, mixed with water from his mouth, on the man's eyes,
John 9:7And said to him: Go, wash in the pool of Siloe, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore, and washed, and he came seeing.`Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,` which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing; And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). So he went away and, after washing, came back able to see.
John 9:8The neighbours therefore, and they who had seen him before that he was a beggar, said: Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said: This is he.the neighbours, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, `Is not this he who is sitting and begging?`Then the neighbours and others who had seen him before in the street, with his hand out for money, said, Is not this the man who got money from people?
John 9:9But others said: No, but he is like him. But he said: I am he.others said `This is he;` and others `He is like to him;` he himself said, `I am [he].`Some said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.
John 9:10They said therefore to him: How were thy eyes opened? They said, therefore, to him, `How were thine eyes opened?`So they said to him, How then were your eyes made open?
John 9:11He answered: That man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me: Go to the pool of Siloe, and wash. And I went, I washed, and I see.he answered and said, `A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight;`His answer was: The man who is named Jesus put earth mixed with water on my eyes, and said to me, Go and make yourself clean in Siloam: so I went away and, after washing, am now able to see.
John 9:12And they said to him: Where is he? He saith: I know not.they said, therefore, to him, `Where is that one?` he saith, `I have not known.`And they said to him, Where is he? His answer was: I have no knowledge.
John 9:13They bring him that had been blind to the Pharisees. They bring him to the Pharisees who once [was] blind,They took him before the Pharisees this man who had been blind.
John 9:14Now it was the sabbath, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.and it was a sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Now the day on which the earth was mixed by Jesus and the man's eyes were made open was the Sabbath.
John 9:15Again therefore the Pharisees asked him, how he had received his sight. But he said to them: He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and I see.Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, `Clay he did put upon my eyes, and I did wash and I see.`So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see.
John 9:16Some therefore of the Pharisees said: This man is not of God, who keepeth not the sabbath. But others said: How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, `This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;` others said, `How is a man a sinful one able to do such signs?` and there was a division among them. Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them.
John 9:17They say therefore to the blind man again: What sayest thou of him that hath opened they eyes? And he said: He is a prophet. They said to the blind man again, `Thou what dost thou say of him that he opened thine eyes?`Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.
John 9:18The Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight, and he said `He is a prophet.` The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and did receive sight, till that they called the parents of him who received sight,Now the Jews had no belief in the statement that he had been blind and was now able to see, till they sent for the father and mother of the man whose eyes had been made open,
John 9:19And asked them, saying: Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then doth he now see?and they asked them, saying, `Is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind? how then now doth he see?`And put the question to them, saying, Is this your son, of whom you say that he was blind at birth? how is it then that he is now able to see?
John 9:20His parents answered them, and said: We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:His parents answered them and said, `We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind; In answer his father and mother said, We are certain that this is our son and that he was blind at birth:
John 9:21But how he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: ask himself: he is of age, let him speak for himself.and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.`But how it is he is now able to see, or who made his eyes open, we are not able to say: put the question to him; he is old enough to give an answer for himself.
John 9:22These things his parents said, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue; They said this because of their fear of the Jews: for the Jews had come to an agreement that if any man said that Jesus was the Christ he would be put out of the Synagogue.
John 9:23Therefore did his parents say: He is of age, ask himself.because of this his parents said `He is of age, ask him.`That was the reason why they said, He is old enough; put the question to him.
John 9:24They therefore called the man again that had been blind, and said to him: Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner. They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, `Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;`So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner.
John 9:25He said therefore to them: If he be a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, now I see.he answered, therefore, and said, `If he be a sinner I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.`He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see.
John 9:26They said then to him: What did he to thee? How did he open thy eyes? And they said to him again, `What did he to thee? how did he open thine eyes?`Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes?
John 9:27He answered them: I have told you already, and you have heard: why would you hear it again? will you also become his disciples? He answered them, `I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?`His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples?
John 9:28They reviled him therefore, and said: Be thou his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. They reviled him, therefore, and said, `Thou art his disciple, and we are Moses` disciples; And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
John 9:29We know that God spoke to Moses: but as to this man, we know not from whence he is.we have known that God hath spoken to Moses, but this one we have not known whence he is.`We are certain that God gave his word to Moses: but as for this man, we have no knowledge where he comes from.
John 9:30The man answered, and said to them: Why, herein is a wonderful thing, that you know not from whence he is, and he hath opened my eyes. The man answered and said to them, `Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes! The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes.
John 9:31Now we know that God doth not hear sinners: but if a man be a server of God, and doth his will, him he heareth.and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear;We have knowledge that God does not give ear to sinners, but if any man is a worshipper of God and does his pleasure, to him God's ears are open.
John 9:32From the beginning of the world it hath not been heard, that any man hath opened the eyes of one born blind.from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who hath been born blind; In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open.
John 9:33Unless this man were of God, he could not do any thing.if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.`If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything.
John 9:34They answered, and said to him: Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. They answered and said to him, `In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!` and they cast him forth without.Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue.
John 9:35Jesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he said to him: Dost thou believe in the Son of God?Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, `Dost thou believe in the Son of God?`It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man?
John 9:36He answered, and said: Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?he answered and said, `Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?`He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.
John 9:37And Jesus said to him: Thou hast both seen him; and it is he that talketh with thee. And Jesus said to him, `Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;`Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you.
John 9:38And he said: I believe, Lord. And falling down, he adored him.and he said, `I believe, sir,` and bowed before him.And he said, Lord, I have faith. And he gave him worship.
John 9:39And Jesus said: For judgment I am come into this world; that they who see not, may see; and they who see, may become blind. And Jesus said, `For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.`And Jesus said, I came into this world to be a judge, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.
John 9:40And some of the Pharisees, who were with him, heard: and they said unto him: Are we also blind? And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, `Are we also blind?`These words came to the ears of the Pharisees who were with him and they said to him, Are we, then, blind?
John 9:41Jesus said to them: If you were blind, you should not have sin: but now you say: We see. Your sin remaineth.Jesus said to them, `If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say We see, therefore doth your sin remain.Jesus said to them, If you were blind you would have no sin: but now that you say, We see; your sin is there still.
