Acts 16:1

And he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, there was a certain disciple there named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman that believed; but his father was a Gentile.

And he came to Derbe and Lystra, and lo, a certain disciple was there, by name Timotheus son of a certain woman, a believing Jewess, but of a father, a Greek,

Acts 16:2

To this man the brethren that were in Lystra and Iconium, gave a good testimony.

who was well testified to by the brethren in Lystra and Iconium;

Acts 16:3

Him Paul would have to go along with him: and taking him he circumcised him, because of the Jews who were in those places. For they all knew that his father was a Gentile.

this one did Paul wish to go forth with him, and having taken [him], he circumcised him, because of the Jews who are in those places, for they all knew his father that he was a Greek.

Acts 16:4

And as they passed through the cities, they delivered unto them the decrees for to keep, that were decreed by the apostles and ancients who were at Jerusalem.

And as they were going on through the cities, they were delivering to them the decrees to keep, that have been judged by the apostles and the elders who [are] in Jerusalem,

And as they passed through the cities they instructed them to observe the decrees determined on by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem.

Acts 16:5

And the churches were confirmed in faith, and increased in number daily.

then, indeed, were the assemblies established in the faith, and were abounding in number every day;

And when they had passed through Phrygia, and the country of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia.

Acts 16:7

And when they were come into Mysia, they attempted to go into Bythynia, and the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not.

having come down to Mysia, they attempted to go to Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them;

And when they had passed through Mysia, they went down to Troas.

Acts 16:9

And a vision was shewed to Paul in the night, which was a man of Macedonia standing and beseeching him, and saying: Pass over into Macedonia, and help us.

And a vision through the night appeared to Paul a certain man of Macedonia was standing, calling upon him, and saying, `Having passed through to Macedonia, help us;`

Acts 16:10

And as soon as he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, being assured that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

and when he saw the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go forth to Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord hath called us to preach good news to them,

And sailing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the day following to Neapolis;

Acts 16:12

And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were in this city some days conferring together.

Acts 16:13

And upon the sabbath day, we went forth without the gate by a river side, where it seemed that there was prayer; and sitting down, we spoke to the women that were assembled.

Acts 16:14

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, did hear: whose heart the Lord opened to attend to those things which were said by Paul.

and a certain woman, by name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, worshipping God, was hearing, whose heart the Lord did open to attend to the things spoken by Paul;

Acts 16:15

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying: If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

and when she was baptized, and her household, she did call upon us, saying, `If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, remain;` and she constrained us.

And when she had been baptised and her house, she besought [us], saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and abide [there]. And she constrained us.

Acts 16:16

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain girl, having a pythonical spirit, met us, who brought to her masters much gain by divining.

And it came to pass in our going on to prayer, a certain maid, having a spirit of Python, did meet us, who brought much employment to her masters by soothsaying,

And it came to pass as we were going to prayer that a certain female slave, having a spirit of Python, met us, who brought much profit to her masters by prophesying.

Acts 16:17

This same following Paul and us, cried out, saying: These men are the servants of the most high God, who preach unto you the way of salvation.

she having followed Paul and us, was crying, saying, `These men are servants of the Most High God, who declare to us a way of salvation;`

She, having followed Paul and us, cried saying, These men are bondmen of the Most High God, who announce to you [the] way of salvation.

Acts 16:18

And this she did many days. But Paul being grieved, turned, and said to the spirit: I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to go out from her. And he went out the same hour.

and this she was doing for many days, but Paul having been grieved, and having turned, said to the spirit, `I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to come forth from her;` and it came forth the same hour.

And this she did many days. And Paul, being distressed, turned, and said to the spirit, I enjoin thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out the same hour.

Acts 16:19

But her masters, seeing that the hope of their gain was gone, apprehending Paul and Silas, brought them into the marketplace to the rulers.

And her masters having seen that the hope of their employment was gone, having caught Paul and Silas, drew [them] to the market-place, unto the rulers,

And her masters, seeing that the hope of their gains was gone, having seized Paul and Silas, dragged [them] into the market before the magistrates;

Acts 16:20

And presenting them to the magistrates, they said: These men disturb our city, being Jews;

and having brought them to the magistrates, they said, `These men do exceedingly trouble our city, being Jews;

and having brought them up to the praetors, said, These men utterly trouble our city, being Jews,

Acts 16:21

And preach a fashion which it is not lawful for us to receive nor observe, being Romans.

and they proclaim customs that are not lawful for us to receive nor to do, being Romans.`

and announce customs which it is not lawful for us to receive nor practise, being Romans.

Acts 16:22

And the people ran together against them; and the magistrates rending off their clothes, commanded them to be beaten with rods.

And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates having torn their garments from them, were commanding to beat [them] with rods,

And the crowd rose up too against them; and the praetors, having torn off their clothes, commanded to scourge [them].

Acts 16:23

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the gaoler to keep them diligently.

many blows also having laid upon them, they cast them to prison, having given charge to the jailor to keep them safely,

Who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

And at midnight, Paul and Silas praying, praised God. And they that were in prison, heard them.

Acts 16:27

And the keeper of the prison, awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the doors of the prison open, drawing his sword, would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

and the jailor having come out of sleep, and having seen the doors of the prison open, having drawn a sword, was about to kill himself, supposing the prisoners to be fled,

And the jailor being awakened out of his sleep, and seeing the doors of the prison opened, having drawn a sword was going to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had fled.

Acts 16:28

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying: Do thyself no harm, for we all are here.

and Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, `Thou mayest not do thyself any harm, for we are all here.`

Acts 16:29

Then calling for a light, he went in, and trembling, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas.

And, having asked for a light, he sprang in, and trembling he fell down before Paul and Silas,

Acts 16:30

And bringing them out, he said: Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved?

and having brought them forth, said, `Sirs, what must I do that I may be saved?`

Acts 16:31

But they said: Believe in the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

and they said, `Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved thou and thy house;`

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.

Acts 16:32

And they preached the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house.

and they spake to him the word of the Lord, and to all those in his household;

And they spoke to him the word of the Lord, with all that were in his house.

Acts 16:33

And he, taking them the same hour of the night, washed their stripes, and himself was baptized, and all his house immediately.

and having taken them, in that hour of the night, he did bathe [them] from the blows, and was baptized, himself and all his presently,

And he took them the same hour of the night and washed [them] from their stripes; and was baptised, he and all his straightway.

Acts 16:34

And when he had brought them into his own house, he laid the table for them, and rejoiced with all his house, believing God.

having brought them also into his house, he set food before [them], and was glad with all the household, he having believed in God.

Acts 16:35

And when the day was come, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

And day having come, the magistrates sent the rod-bearers, saying, `Let those men go;`

And when it was day, the praetors sent the lictors, saying, Let those men go.

Acts 16:36

And the keeper of the prison told these words to Paul: The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore depart, and go in peace.

and the jailor told these words unto Paul `The magistrates have sent, that ye may be let go; now, therefore, having gone forth go on in peace;`

And the jailor reported these words to Paul: The praetors have sent that ye may be let go. Now therefore go out and depart in peace.

Acts 16:37

But Paul said to them: They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison: and now do they thrust us out privately? Not so; but let them come,

and Paul said to them, `Having beaten us publicly uncondemned men, Romans being they did cast [us] to prison, and now privately do they cast us forth! why no! but having come themselves, let them bring us forth.`

But Paul said to them, Having beaten us publicly uncondemned, us who are Romans, they have cast us into prison, and now they thrust us out secretly? no, indeed, but let them come themselves and bring us out.

Acts 16:38

And let us out themselves. And the serjeants told these words to the magistrates. And they were afraid, hearing that they were Romans.

And the rod-bearers told to the magistrates these sayings, and they were afraid, having heard that they are Romans,

And the lictors reported these words to the praetors. And they were afraid when they heard they were Romans.

Acts 16:39

And coming, they besought them; and bringing them out, they desired them to depart out of the city.

and having come, they besought them, and having brought [them] forth, they were asking [them] to go forth from the city;

And they came and besought them, and having brought them out, asked them to go out of the city.

Acts 16:40

And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

and they, having gone forth out of the prison, entered into [the house of] Lydia, and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and went forth.

And having gone out of the prison, they came to Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they exhorted them and went away.
